PFT Daily: Vick trade could happen later, not sooner

Several theories have emerged of late regarding when or if the Eagles will part ways with quarterback Mike Vick.

The latest?  Per NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Eagles will hold Vick until the preseason.

The implications of this report are the focal point of the latest edition of PFT Daily.

Sorry mr. vick no matter where you go you will be a “gadget player”, a darn good one, and a fun one to watch. You might as well just stay with the Eagles.

If the Rams think Vick is their answer they may get the first pick in 2011 and 2012 also.

The longer the Eagles hold Vick the more the price will drop. Vick’s not Favre. He’s going to need all the time with his new team as possible. So this is a smokescreen.

You’re probably just hoping your team will get him. He’s better than cutler and won’t go anywhere unless the Eagles get a better haul than denver did

A career 53% comp percentage, and no ability to stay in the pocket when he played every down. Then after being out of football for two years and used as a gadget player for one more, someone actually wants to trade for him to make him their full time starter? How could an NFL GM be so clueless?

  9. batfreight says: Feb 18, 2010 1:25 PM

Why the obsession with Vick on this site? He’s a backup QB with limited and deteriorating skills, who also happens to be a depraved bloodthirsty savage. Who gives a rats ass where this insignificant bit of sub human debris plays next season? He will have as much impact in the league as the guys on the Rams practice squad.

If the Rams pass on Clausen or Bradford, they are an even bigger joke than we all know they are. Vick is nothing but a ploy to put butts in seats, and honestly, he may not even provide that after the first few weeks of the season.

He is better then MANY starters starting now…HATERS who cant forgive…LOL dont say you believe in God if you still have HATE in your mouth! and if you are Atheist then thats your business…Vick to St Louis would be nice for him to get a chance to start again…Keep in mind haters Vick rarely had a PASS blocking OLINE in Atlanta and his OC and HC before he left WERE TERRIBLE! Gregg Knapp??? Are you kidding me??? Look at his numbers when he had Reeves as coach who knew how to use him better….
    Haters I tell ya…..LOL

Dont try to change your tune if its 1 of your family members or friends…More hate continues….

The Rams are faking interest in Vick. Could it be more obvious? They want to give the appearance that they are prepared to address the QB situation outside of the draft (not with the #1 pick). This way, if someone wants to trade up for Suh, they trade with the Rams and not the Lions. They did the same thing last year, only they feigned interest in Sanchez so that teams would trade up with them (it almost worked but the Jets didn’t offer enough)

Given Vick’s very limited QB skills and his admitted lack of attention to detail when it comes to studying the playbook, the Eagles may be playing a game of chicken with themselves. Above all else, the Eagles have to remember that last year, no other team stepped up to sign Vick when it would have cost them nothing at all in terms of draft choices. What has Vick done in the last 12 months to increase his worth, besides stay out of jail?

Will teams have to consult with Dungy before he is traded?

Know what’s even weaker than this year’s QB draft class? This year’s QBs available as free agents. How is Vick’s value possibly going to diminish as camp approaches, brains?
As a Cowboys fan, I’m starting to get terrified that the Eagles will pull in a HUGE draft class with picks they acquire for Vick and McNabb on top of what they already have. Philly is loaded at the skill positions so they could afford to add quality young depth to their trenches. Mother, hold my hand…

Who was the first QB to win at Lambeau Field?
Who is the one and only QB to rush for 1,000+ yds?

Nope, matter of fact, HELL NO i want McNabb on my team. Why, so he cry like LT on the side lines cuz he screwing up. No, and im not a philly fan, but i like philly. All im saying is everytime phill is in a good position for a ring, McNabb, and him alone seems to screw things up. Thats all.

Holding Vick means to me that Kolb is here next year and Mcnabb is gone. I think they just want to make sure that they have adequate backup for Kolb after the draft. Maybe they want Vick as insurance. But they will not keep both Vick and Mcnabb.

  24. Hooby says: Feb 18, 2010 4:27 PM

mcnabb is and has been for some time now a problem, but hes not the problem. the perception of him is that hes a great quarterback. i call shenanigans. if i had access to a film room id show you how inaccurate he is. but people seem to think that hes a great qb (see; Eagles front office) and think philly is just angry that we never win a superbowl with him. truth is, we are. but were even more angry at the errant throws he delivers 5 times out of 10. and take my word for it, whatever team he ends up on might make it far in the playoffs but they wont win it all. the key being that if you google ‘inconsistent’ theres a picture of mcnabbs goofy mug laughing back at you. as he throws an ball 10 yards over a receivers head.
gotta love him tho, hes so damn lovable.

  25. Florio-is-a-tool says: Feb 18, 2010 4:35 PM

Sorry guys but Vick is not a QB, he’s a gadget player. Almost like Ronnie Brown but without the toughness, skill and intelligence.

  26. Lights Out says: Feb 18, 2010 4:44 PM

funny thing that was said was mcnabb is better than cutler……thats hilarious, cuz if i had the line, the rbs, the wrs, and have to say it the coaches he would be just as good, and also cutler did throw more tds than mcnabb this year, it also was broken down that cutler only put up 16 int, without the help of the craptastic wrs, also more yardage so i dont wanna hear it about how bad cutler is, mcnabb with the talent should be excelling.
    HE GONE

  29. dankula says: Feb 18, 2010 5:02 PM

Correction. Vick was used in gadget plays in philadelphia. I suggest you take a look at some youtube highlights of his last year in the nfl as a qb. I dont have a hard-on for vick, i just get tired of idiots making idiotic comments about things that they obviously know nothing about. Oh yeah and mcnabb sucks so bad that the eagles will get a 1st round pick for him at age 34. Riiiiiiiiiight.

  30. jgras says: Feb 18, 2010 5:21 PM

Take what you can get for him. The man admitted that he didn’t try hard enough for Atlanta. Why would he once he got another big contract?

  31. paranoidandroid says: Feb 18, 2010 8:04 PM

vick is as close to done as mcnabb is. kolb is their future and if they had any sense they’d get on with it.
stupid franchise brought vick in and it pissed mcnabb off, so now what?
they didn’t start vick and he didn’t get more than a handful of plays a game and now they’re thinking of trading him? who the hell would make that deal? anyone that evaluates him has little to nothing to gauge his abilities.
signing him didn’t make them better. was it really worth it?

  32. TheWizard says: Feb 18, 2010 8:27 PM

    I think Vick is trash.
    See? No conflict whatsoever.

@ SF Saints Fan: Eagles were just the 1st team to sign him. There were 3 other teams interested in signing him. You must be new to the site?!?
@ Vox: just when I think you are completely ignorant, you come up w/a gem.
@ Hooby: As for Dnabb’s completion %, it’s 59%. Not 50%. Study the game film and then you’ll understand some of the “errant” throws. Truthfully, he is not responsible for all the losses, not even in the playoffs! The idea that they need to get rid of him & start over to see what they have with Kevin (Feeley) Kolb is ludicrous

  38. Opie says: Feb 19, 2010 5:36 PM

@ Vox: Damon Huard also has a higher completion rate than Roger Staubach and Danny White too!
Oh, and Dan Fouts, John Elway, Warren Moon, Rodney Peete, Vince Farragamo, Y.A. Tittle, Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas, Terry Bradshaw, Bobby Lane, Bart Starr and Ron Jaworski….
So, what’s your point? You just haven’t learned, yet have you?!?
