Former NFL player Tiki Barber, who has yet to provide any on-air updates regarding the “total medal count” during the Winter Olympics, spoke with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan of Sirius NFL Radio on Friday (via JoeBucsFan.com). Tiki discussed, among other things, the ongoing pro football career of his identical twin brother, Ronde.
Ronde is still playing, more than three seasons after Tiki retired. Though Tiki attributes Ronde’s longevity in part to the fact that Ronde has maintained the “desire and ability” to stay in great physical shape, Tiki has another theory, too.
Tiki thinks he took more physical punishment during his career than Ronde.
Given the hits that a running back takes, Tiki has a point. But Tiki took it a little too far, undermining the work a corner does and/or overstating the physical sacrifice a running back makes.
“He can go 15 plays without working; he can go 15 plays without getting
hit,” Tiki said of Ronde. “He doesn’t realize that I had to work every
play. Just because I wasn’t running the ball on a play didn’t mean I
wasn’t working.”
But if Tiki is right, it could be that Ronde is actually the smart one. After all, Ronde has earned another $9 million in base salary since Tiki stopped “working,” one year before his Giants won the Super Bowl.
So the lesson for every kid out there is that if you’re going to try to make a career out of playing football, pick a position that entails less wear and tear — and tell your twin brother to pick the same position, too.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Do you even watch football, Mike? Tiki hit the nail on the head.
Shut up Tiki! No one cares about you and your broadcasting is garbage!
I still find it hilarious that one year after you quit on the Giants they won the Superbowl…loser!
Well it looks like the line has been drawn, you’re either a pro-Tiki or pro-Ronde supporter now…no middle of the road slackers on this all important family feud that PFT has presented us with. The football world awaits with eager anticipation over the outcome of this landmark battle about to be waged. Wake me when it’s decided.
Tiki’s just mad because his dentist talked him into buying the “Gary Busey Veneers”, and he cannot find a fancy word in his “365 New Words For Ex=Athletes Trying To Break Into Broadcasting” calendar to explain his feelings.
This reminds me of the exchange between Lebowski and Walter in “The Big Lebowski”.
Walter: Am I wrong?
Lebowski: You’re not wrong, Walter. You’re just an a-hole.
Tiki’s not wrong. He’s just an a-hole. Why would you take public shots at your brother like that?
Your references are usually far below average, Florio, but the total medal count was cold hilarious
HA! I had the exact same thought pop into my head when i read this.
Gigantes blow
Tiki is still alive? Who cares what he has to say, he’s a selfish person that threw his QB under the bus, and now his brother. Tiki, just go away, nobody likes you.
hah.
its true: florio (who wont read this comment) knows that running backs often dont last past 30. he just wanted to hate.
but i want to hate too. tiki is a douche. total metal douche. its funny that he thought he was gonna be a star on good morning america. nope!
this also goes for that guy on the bills who abruptly retired. take the money, the world isnt like football. you wont be a star at everything you do. no offense.
Definitely. Tiki is Walter.
Here’s another headline
“Rhonde attributes Tiki’s vagina to Rhonde recieving all the testosterone in utero.”
Maybe you should send Tiki to your wig guy, Florio. A rug similar to yours might be the competitive advantage he needs to get over on his brother.
Sweet haircut, Florio.
Tiki is right. The punishment that a CB takes is nowhere near what a RB takes.
Now Florio, you may be able to get your sheeple all worked up on this comment, but us smart, independent thinking readers know better.
may have been a bad choice of words, but there’s a reason most running backs are done by 30…
I distinctly remember Tiki hiding behind water coolers during practice in training camp, so the coaches wouldn’t see him sitting on his helmet relaxing. This guy stopped working a year or two before he retired. I will admit, he did wake up and go to work and lift the weights and show up on sundays though.
Tiki Barber…Since when is anything he says worth printing. If I was his brother I would have reconstructive facial surgery so people wouldn’t confuse me with his idiot half.
“Gary Busey Veneers” LMFAO…hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
Tiki = overrated, defined the term: Fumbilia. Tiki is a total Douchebag to diss his brother like that.
Personally I thought it was hillarious that the Giants won the SuperBowl post Tiki
I’m guessing Ronde was the smarter of the two brothers. Tiki strikes me of football’s version of Isiah Thomas: A smile that is actually cold and an opportunist.
How Tiki got the NBC gig while the guy whose jock he couldn’t carry in the NFL, Marshall Faulk, who actually is articulate, sincere, and insightful, languishes on the NFL Network is beyond me.
SB Rings:
Ronde – 1
Tiki – 0
Someone jealous?
Tiki seems a little envious of his better half. As a Bucs fan I’ve always been on the Ronde bandwagon.
The Tikmeister must have taken one too many knees to the helmet. True, an RB blocks blitzers and may run a passing route to the flat or even throw a block for a WR. But to say a CB doesn’t work every play is plain dumb. If a CB plays the way he should, he’s flying to the ball on most plays and getting in on tackles and getting blind-sided by blockers, etc. Tell Antoine Winfield he isn’t working every play and he’ll hand you your teeth on a plate.
Tiki continues to prove how big a d-bag he truely is
Musta been nice in the womb.
Ronde is smarter, better, tougher and knows how to keep his mouth shut.
Kids, if you want to keep your NFL career strong and alive well into your 30s and 40s either inject yourself with Brett Favre DNA or become a kicker.
CB’s do not take the wear and tear a RB does. Anyone stating the opposite just doesnt know football. Tiki also left football at the top of his game instead of going the LT, Shaun Alexander route. He was actually getting better over time when most RB;s go the other way. Ive always praised him, Barry Sanders and RObert Smith for leaving when they were still good.
I am the Walrus?
WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA nobody remembers me or gives a sh*t about my obnoxious self anymore WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAA
Tiki
I remember him he said Eli Manning had no guts no leadership
Funny Eli has a SB ring and MVP Trophy and Tiki has?
NOTHING
Tiki showed the world that running back is not a skill position but one that can be filled with out much thought.
Tiki you once were in the hearts of every Giant fan now we laugh at you.
Might be right technically.
Still an asshole.
I am about as far from a fan of Tiki as there is, but I have to say he has a point.
I wonder when this punk will start doing speaking tours of community colleges. Tiki over-rated himself and thought he would simply jump to the top of news media, because he likes his own smile. Hey maybe he will get lucky and as a sideline reporter, one of these days Joe Nameth will try to kiss him.
whole story is ridiculous. i listened to the interview and the guys were joking about it. tiki was laughing as he said these quotes. everyone needs to calm down
Although it’s true the punishment that a CB takes is nowhere near what a RB takes, an effective corner must retain his coverage speed or he’s history.
Being able to run a 4.5 at age 34 and cover blazing fast 22-year old receivers at his age, (34) is as impressive as anything you can do in the NFL.
The best was when Tiki had to interview Eli a few days after he won SB.
I do not think I ever laughed so hard in my life.
Tiki come by the swamp anytime your name or a replay of you is shown your booed so loud you must hear it in midtown
Tiki may be right re: the punishment RBs take in comparison to CBs but his case needs to be considered differently. He may have left while still being effective but don’t forget that he spent almost the first half of his career as a 3rd down back and kick returner so the carpet (years he played in the NFL) doesn’t exactly match the drapes (tread on his tires).
Tiki works for NBC? Florio pimps NBC 24/7?
Sounds like the makings of a good old fashioned cat fight.
tiki is and always will be a punk.
Tiki clearly envies Ronde’s ring.
He is correct about taking more punishment. However, a CB is running and “working hard” every play, despite not blocking or running in to LB and DE’s… They jam WR at the line, blitz QB, tackle, and have to work hard every play theyre on the field, or the QB will tear them apart.
Not to mention, most RB’s are supposed to be bigger than CB’s, and, as for the “less wear and tear”, CB’s take BLINDSIDE shots ALL the time, it’s very rare for a RB to not see a hit coming. I think that puts CB’s at more risk for injury’s and such than RB’s.
Don’t we already know that Ronde is the smart one?
… simple reasoning …
We don’t hear him speak!
