Though 74 hours remain before the window closes on the use of the franchise tag, we’re told that the Saints have still given safety Darren Sharper no indication as to whether or not the veteran will be offered $6.445 million for 2010.
There also have been no talks, we’re told, regarding the multi-year deal that Sharper reportedly wants.
We’d be surprised if Sharper hits the open market, and even more surprised if the Saints allow him to leave, since his departure would dampen the euphoria that still emanates from the entire state of Louisiana.
He’s not going anywhere.
I thought all the Saints players, coaches and front office staff would still be partying this week. You mean to tell me that they have gone back to work? I thought they were going to never go back to work……
I would guess that the Saints are probably trying to gauge if another team will be ready to trow all kinds of money at Sharper right after free agency starts. You know, the kind of deal that looks like, smells like and is tampering, but nobody is ever called out for it. (Unless you are the 49′ers….that is.) Just about everybody does it, most won’t admit to it. I know the Saints have done it and have had it done to them as well.
I don’t think Sharper is worth $6.445 million to any team and the Saints should just offer him a decent contract and go on from there. I think Sharper is a good player, who fit into the Saints scheme quite well, but it is more about the system with the Saints and less about the players. If Sharper want to go to say, Cleveland, then go. You won’t get a Super Bowl there next year. Just saying…..
Wilfolk’s tagging will trigger Sharper’s..probably within the next 24.
Getting a conversation going with another team may help both sides come to an agreement for what Sharper’s real value is.
I can’t see the Saints overpaying for both Sharper and Bush.
Wont get a Super Bowl ring next year with the Saints either
Sharper will retire a Saint…stay tuned.
I think they are likely to offer him a 2-3 year deal, actually, where the 2nd or 3rd year is essentially a “make up” for only paying him what’s pretty much base for a starter in his position this past year.
Euphoria’s not the only thing emanating from the state of Louisiana.
Jared Allen’s stain’s emanating from Louisiana too. That nasty hick’s odor still remains after he left his hotel room. How does his wife deal with such stench?
cwinckler thanks for the free advice, I’m guessing you predicted the Saints to win the SuperBowl this past season right? haha
As far as Sharper goes, the Saints should give him a two year contract, as he’s got at least one more year of being a starter left in him. He can help this team get back to the big game as long as he doesn’t get too slow in these next two years. I mean let’s face it, he’s 34 and the guy isn’t a QB. Sooner or later his ability has gotta start to fade to the point where he will be a liability back there. Although last year he rarely got beat and was tied for first in the league with interceptions and holds the NFL record for interception return yards.
Sharper is now one of the most overated players in the league. Good not great.
Bush has not earned his big bucks. Sharper has earned & deserves to get more money. He has been almost as instrumental at turning the defense around as Double G.
The key issue here is what Sharper’s wife says. Whatever she says, Florio will say the opposite. He hates wives. Just hates them. Needs some counseling, for sure.
sharper has a few good yrs in minn too, but faded to just 1 pick in his last yr!! so hope the saints do that cause he is not elite like he thinks he is.. the whole who dat nation and that slumlord town can eat a fat one
Dear Brett,
Lick my ball sack.
