I can see Chicago making a run for Sharper, and I can see Sharper wanting to play for the Bears. He got the ring, now, I’m sure he’ll think he can resurrect any defense out there. He’s always been one of the most ego driven players out there (not saying he doesn’t have the talent, he’s just very egotistical). And, with the Bears, he’ll probably think he can will them to beat the Packers and Vikings twice each every year.

This is a win-win for the Saints, either he tests the market and there isnt much of one and we get another year from him at a good price or he tests the market and gets a big payday opening the way for us to sign an UFA we would not have been able to sign due to the Final 4 restrictions.

Funny how 3 professional teams, Packers, Vikings and Saints understand that Sharper’s liabilities far outweigh his assets but yet posters don’t “get it.” Sharper was a product of the system that the Saints play, he had no one on one responsibilities and becuz the saints often had a huge lead due to their offense, sharper was able to gamble. I doubt saints fans will understand that Sharper is a much bigger liability than a team wants to have and that he was toasted far more than he was able to make a play, but stupid fans only remember the int’s and td’s.

he’ll be playing for the Saints next year. the main reason he had one of his better seasons in recent history was because Gregg Williams let him do what he does best… play center field. He might not get the opportunity to play that way if he goes somewhere else.
he’ll collect some offers and then come back to New Orleans and get paid somewhere between the $1.7 he earned last year and the $6.4 he’d get if he was franchised.

sharper, phillips, ross, and webster in the secondary for the gmen. new D coord is a secondary specialist, wouldnt suprise me at all if reese tried to bring him in. he could play half as good as he did last year and be a significant upgrade over what we had.
regardless of where he goes hes still one of my favorite dbacks

It doesn’t make any sense for the Saints to tag him at that price for one year. He’ll get a decent two-year offer that includes a nice raise from the Saints. If he can get more from someone, more power to him.

Sharper is a product of the system.. and is nowhere as good as his stater portray him.
When your O puts up crazy amount of point the other team is forced to throw a lot to keep up, the D is ready and the bad throws get picked.. simple.
someone will overpay for him and he will stink it up next season.

Maybe that’s what happened in Green Bay and Minny but in New Orleans he only had one bad game and that was against the Redskins. He never got beat over the top and never missed a tackle when he was the last line of defense. The only time he missed tackles is when he was attacking the line of scrimmage.

Sharper still has a couple of good seasons in him. I could see the Giants picking him up on a one-year contract; they still think they’re a Super Bowl eam with a few gaps – including the DBs.

I think the Pats actually have some good guys at the safety position. I hate the Patriots and everything about them but Brandon Merriwhether is trying hard to become a favorite player of mine.
As far as Sharper goes, I think this is the smart move by the Saints for three reasons:
1. Its all but impossible to repeat in this league.
2. Sharper will probably be over paid where ever he goes.
3. They have several other free agents, many of whom are younger than Sharper.
I would say Sharper probably has a year or two left in him based off Brian Dawkins, who had a good first half of the season and wasn’t bad the second half. As a 49ers fan I wouldn’t mind trying to pull a Saints and grab him up and go from 8-8 to Super Bowl champs (although I would rather have Brees).

Sharpers comments are just his attempt to play chicken with the front office, make them think there is actually a possibility of him going elsewhere. This won’t work with Mickey Loomis.
He’ll go make a few visits, like Warner last year and then bring the numbers back to the Saints who will sign him for a lot less than the 6.5 mil franchise tender. Smart, shrewd business from the Saints front office.
If Snyder or anyone else wants to offer him ridiculous money, the Saints will be ok without him. Good luck getting another ring in Washington before his body gives out.

The Saints definitely want him back. He was a great mentor to the defensive secondary. They just don’t want to pay $6.4M for a 35 year old safety. They will let Darren find out his market value and then match the highest offer. Remember nobody wanted him last year and signed a one-year contract for $1.5M. He didn’t suddenly drink from the fountain of youth. I believe they will sign him, but for a whole less than $6.4M.

I’m confused as to why the Saints won’t just franchise Sharper. I mean who else are they gonna plug into that FS role that can do as good a job at getting everyone lined up and playing center field. The big pass play which has plagued the Saints defense the last few seasons finally was under control and it’s because of Sharper’s ability to take that deep route away. If they don’t bring him back and expect Malcolm Jenkins to do as good a job then the Saints are in for a rude awakening.

He got 9 interceptions last year in the regular season. Hardly what you’d call over the hill.
