Colt McCoy won’t throw in Indy

With Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford and Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen not working out in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy had a chance to close the gap by throwing the ball for the assembled scouts.

For a while, it appeared that McCoy might do it. Now, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that McCoy will not throw, on the advice of Dr. James Andrews.

McCoy will participate in all other drills, and he’ll throw for scouts at the Texas Pro Day on March 31.

He injured his throwing arm during the BCS Championship Game in January, and it’s unclear whether he’s truly unable to throw -- or whether he’s looking for a note from Epstein’s mother to provide a plausible excuse to follow the trend of deferring the throwing sessions to the Pro Day workout, where the quarterback is on more familiar turf, with his coaches and agent present and teammates, not strangers, running the routes.
