Favre to visit with Leno on March 4

1744.jpgEven as the 2010 free agency period launches, we won’t be able to get away from the guy who looms over the offseason like the fart cloud at a bean farmers convention.

At or about the time that the flood gates open at midnight on March 5, Jay Leno will be welcoming to The Tonight Show one of the few guests with more gray hair than the host.

Brett Favre.

According to an online schedule found by our pal Brooks, Favre will join Matthew McConaughey and Lifehouse on Leno’s fourth night back in late night.  (We assume that at some point Favre will make a crack about his own inability to get his old job back in Green Bay.)

We’ll be watching it as part of our constant, round-the-clock coverage of the first day of the first uncapped free agency period since 1993.

Maybe Favre will ask for his release to “retire” and then sign a nice big one year contract on another team.

  9. PackManFanEver says: Feb 24, 2010 8:40 PM

My money is on FaVrey canceling 2 days beforehand, leading Leno to book Kurt Warner….then 1 hour before taping, FaVrey deciding that he “really” wants to do the show……

  10. 70s Cowboys says: Feb 24, 2010 8:40 PM

Technically, you can choose to ignore Farve, you just know he’ll bring tons of comments and views. Most comments will probably be complaining about Farve being brought up and he should just retire.
    Er, wait…oops.

BREAKING NEWS: Brett Favre is to announce his status for the upcoming NFL season during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Thursday March 4. Favre, who had a fantastic season with the Minnesota Vikings, has decided to make an early decision this year, allowing the Vikings to move forward with potentially looking for a new QB to replace Favre if he decides not to come back.

  27. LBPACKFAN says: Feb 24, 2010 9:32 PM

Yes…the last 2 offseasons were horrible…and this year was scary….but seeing Brett fail…and mister “All Day” overrated fumble boy Adrian piss away a shot at the title…just made it worthwhile. I wouldn’t count on Jay Leno asking any hard questions like “why didn’t you just run instead of throwing that terrible INT against the Saints?” or “what does Childress wear underneath his dress?” or “Do you know that you can’t call two time outs in a row, oh wait a minute, the 12 men in the huddle prevented that penalty from being called?”
Leno will keep it nice and light, at about a 3rd grade level so all the Viking fans can keep up.

Just like he was the Packers “4”th game opponent of the season this year, and also the “4”th home game at Lambeau this year as well !
Gee, you’d almost think people planned that, or something.

  46. Ghost of Studwell says: Feb 25, 2010 12:01 AM

You could predict all of the Favre haters complaining about this story. 2 things for those losers:
    1. You don’t have to watch the show

Seriously?? Enjoy the summer of “will he or won’t he.” Dude, it’s February. The dead of winter is still upon us. The Vikes already told him he doesn’t have any kind of deadline. You Pack fans are pathetic man. Hanging your hats on the hopes and prayers that he won’t make his decision for a while. Doesn’t that seem a little weird that you are still so pissed about this? And doesn’t your screen name indicate you have a team of your own to worry about? Hahahahahaha. Keep it up Pack fans, this is too damn hilarious.

  54. sand0 says: Feb 25, 2010 9:47 AM

Packers fans are obsessed with Brett Favre and Viking football. I’ve been pissed at all of the silly trash they talk and how little sense any of it makes. “You guys own us right now but you suck anyways ha ha ha!” is what it breaks down to.
But I’m beginning to turn a new leaf. Some of their responses are funny in kind of a pathetic way and this whole thread would have been so boring without all of Brett’s jealous obsessive ex-girlfriends hate spamming it.
So I rescind all previous requests for you chumps to stick to your own threads. Keep your silly obsession with us going. We still have our Daily Norseman’s and other boards for intelligent discussion and we can reserve this board for your vented frustrations.

  55. internettoughguy says: Feb 25, 2010 10:23 AM

Lets face it Vikes fans..Favre was this team last year. Without him Childress has us one and done at best. Even a year older he is still 10x better than TJunk or Hassenefeffer.
My only concern is the beating he took in that NFC CG. Tough as he is, if we can’t protect better starting week one and eveybody brings the house all year long, he wont survive to the play-offs.
Contrary to most Vikings fans feelings, I want a decision sooner than later.

Its the perfect marriage, the QB that chokes in the playoffs is now playing for the team that defines the word, “Choke”.
Throw in a head coach is can’t call plays, a couple of guys who will be suspended for drugs, a pot smoking rookie and it has all the makings of a real train wreck.
Its nothing new that the Vikings sign ex Packers after they are over the hill (Darren Sharper, Robert Furgeson, Longwell), but none that have the potential to derail the team like Brent “I’m a INT Diva” Favre.

You’re going to look silly……

Congrats to Ted Thompson for continuing to destroy the pride & legacy that Wolf, Holmgren & Favre faught so hard to bring back to Green Bay. Your ultimate goal of destroying Packer football & splitting the fan base by turning many of us against the icon who made our franchise great again is nearing completion. Should you see a bus rolling full speed down Lombardi Avenue, feel free to step directly in front of it.

I hope so badly that you read this.
Last fall we entered into some banter about the disparity between the Packers and Vikings.
You had stated how your beloved Packers were so very superior to my Vikings and had indicated that I was a delusional fool based on my predictions for this year.
I’ve kept my mouth shut until now, but can no longer contain what was so blatantly obvious during our brief dialogue last fall.
It’s official. The Packers suck. And further more, you suck too. Don’t ever talk football to me again. Your fascination with being right, as well as your disdain for all things viking, including their fans, has clouded what little football knowledge that you may think you possess.

As it turns out, they can only handle the Rams, Lions, and Browns, and literally that’s it. Here’s looking at 4-12!!!

    NFL Clowns,
    (as am I)
Losing this game isn’t on Thompson. It’s obvious for the most part the talent is there. Ted Thompson cannot prevent a blocked punt. Ted Thompson cannot tackle on kickoff coverage. Ted Thompson can’t get rid of the ball. ted Thompson cannot call the plays to get guys open. Anyone that denies the TALENT is there is a football idiot. I know nothing. But I DID listen to 3 hours of packer post game on the radio and McCarthy sounded like a guy ready to resign. He won’t because winners do not quit. We are 4-4. Lets stop bashing and try to beat Dallas at home and cure all of this and get back in the hunt for the tournament. (winning breeds winning) Usually in Wisconsin 1 win shuts up the HATERS. Life is too short to hate.

Wow Suck, I didn’t expect to see you here so soon. I take off my hat to you for having the guts to come on take the verbal beating you’ve earned.
Losing this game (and the last one) IS COMPLETELY on Thompson. Those 3 FBs, that you said we needed for special teams, haven’t made much of a difference. You think the talent is there?? TALENT can make blocks, tackles, prevent sacks, and with regard to coaching talent, can call the proper plays and prevent all these penalties. Talent, which your good buddy Ted has failed to obtain.
Yeah we’re 4-4. I’ll let you be proud of that, because I am sure not. Winners don’t quit, that’s for sure, but winners don’t currently wear green and yellow either. We just lost to TAMPA, with a QB making his first start to boot. You think we have a prayer against Dallas, an actual decent team? You think we have any chance of “getting back in the tournament” after today? If so, you’re out of your mind.
Life is too short to let this disaster continue. It needs to be fixed now. Not after five more losing seasons like you seem to want, not even at the end of this season. NOW.

We do have eight games left, but I for one am not thankful for that. Things have not gotten any better, the problems McCarthy is “tired of hearing about” have not been addressed. We’ve suffered enough humiliation this season already. I’d rather just get it over with so we can get into the offseason and make some MUCH-needed changes.
The easiest part of our schedule is over, and we’re 4-4, 4 games back from first place in our division. We just lost by two scores to a 0-7 team. We average four sacks a game, and next up is Dallas, with DeMarcus Ware. I can’t see that ending well, other than maybe being an opportunity to see how a 3-4 defense is SUPPOSED to be run.
I’d love to know exactly why you think things are going to be any different in the second half of the season than they were the first. Do tell.

What if the Vikings start 1-3? I can’t wait for Favre to get a full dose of the fandom of East Dakota. All it takes is a tough run and they’re handing out free tickets in the IDS Center skyway to avoid a blackout.

And admitting to being wrong more than right is not justified by “nailing it” when right. If you’re right, you’re right, and if you’re wrong you’re wrong. You just happen to be wrong a lot.
But if you’re serious in your endeavor to clean up the site, the first logical step would be for you to actually follow through on one of your 57 resignations. Trust me, any conversation you ever were or would be involved in wouldn’t be considered intelligent football talk.

2002: Timberwolves versus Kings, regular season. I walk up to the box office to buy a seat. Sold out. Upper deck tickets included at $37 apiece.
2009: I’m walking through the IDS Center on my way to a meeting. 2 broads are standing outside of Coordinated Business Systems yelling, “Free Timberwolves tickets!” So I stop and ask, “What’s the catch?” They said there was no catch, they were trying to get their name out there with this promotion. Just take their brochure and I can have Wolves tickets. “Well, how many can I have?” Their reply, “How many do you want?” I said, well….6. That was that. 6 27th row courtsides to the Lakers for free. LBPackfan,
Just because you are just as confident for next season as you were the last two seasons doesn’t mean that Vikings fans should be scared of Favre not coming back. Pre-Favre we had just won the division the season prior with weaker defense, a harder schedule, and no Harvin or Rice healthy. The playoff game wasn’t all Favre. Our defense ate them alive.
Granted we had more blowout victories and wide open fun to watch offense and tons of attention but in the end all Favre changed was two reg season victories on a team that would have won 11 or 12 with a repeat of the previous season’s ability against a weaker schedule.
Packer idiots think all that matters is QB. You think we can’t beat you without Favre despite the fact that we just proved we can two years ago. But all this is meaningless anyways because Favre will come back and we will crush you again, and laugh. And if we fall short of winning the super bowl you guys will go off like you just won it all because that is how crazy you are.

By your standard, Vikings fans have NEVER had anything to cheer about.
Favre pissed away drafts by not telling his team whether he was going to return the next season or not. Or by TRYING to return after they’ve filled the starting spot plus two backup positions. You realize he expected the Packers to just drop one of their newly drafted QBs to make room for him, right?

    @ People’s champ
Favr3e did not bring the Pack that Super Bowl in ’96 nor did he lose us the one in ’97. Favre was not the MVP of that 96 team. The KR/PR was. However, Brett did do a lot to get the Pack to both bowls and did have a big hand in helping tyem get there.
He did however, singlehandedly, keep tha Pack out of the 2007 SB. Yes, there was plenty of time to put the game away in 4 qtrs but neither team did. Giants get the ball, defense gets the stop, and Mr Favre comes out & throws the pretiiest “duck” you’ve ever seen right to a Giants player. No one else threw that ball. Just a little more & he had an open receiver.
Then comes 2009. 5 turnovers, 12 men in the huddle but none the less Vikes still have a chance to win. Favre gets the ball, can choose to throw it away, run a few yards, ANYTHING but turn it over. Favre, all by himself, decides to chuck one across his body across the field & boom, INT.
Favre’s a great football player, 1st ballot HOF’er & I hope he comes back but he singlehandedly lost those 2 NFCCG’s by poor decision making. Period.

    you’re all such idiots.
Leno wants to start off with big time ratings. Favre is the biggest star in nfl history. NO QUESTION. look at how much attention he gets just on your comments. Favre brings in the money.

Favre is a big draw for three reasons:
    1. He’s as old as dirt, so name and face recognition are high.
    2. He’s a polarizing figure. People love him and people hate him.
    3. He’s in a continual state of deciding whether or not to retire. Hold that decision over the head of members of the media and they want to get you on their shows.
There are plenty of NFL players who make appearances on late night and talk shows. Among them: Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Chad Johnson (no, I won’t call him that stupid name), LaDainian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, Reggie Bush, etc, etc. As I alluded to earlier, Favre’s last appearance on Leno’s show was in 1998. To hold him up as some enormous draw unequaled in the NFL is questionable at best.

I’ll agree on one thing, though. Leno sucks balls.

So its Farve’s fault that Leno wants him on his show? Way to misinterpret the situation.

I’d be surprised if anyone said it’s Favre’s FAULT Leno wants him on the show. Some idiot said Favre is by far the biggest draw in the NFL. Some of us reminded them of reality.
