Hanson leads segregated life as Raiders employee

The civil suit filed against the Raiders and Tom Cable by employee Randy Hanson threatens to be a problem for the team in a few ways.

Cable will likely have to testify on the record in what could be an embarrassing ordeal.

The lawsuit will also shine on a light on Hanson’s current odd situation as a Raiders employee.  Some highlights from Hanson’s suit, as picked out by Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune.

* Hanson works for the team, but has to enter the building through the front entrance.  Team employees and players go through the back.

* Hanson is not allowed to enter the “football” area of the building, just the administrative side. He was not allowed to attend home games.

* Initially, these conditions were only supposed to last four weeks.  On
January 28, Hanson was told by Al Davis the segregation would remain in
place as long as Hanson remained with the team.  (That makes us wonder if he held off filing the suit until he learned his estrangement was permanent.)

* Here’s our favorite: “If [Hanson] wished to eat the
lunch provided daily to the Raiders staff, he must ask someone to bring
it to him.”

While other teams are focused on winning football games, the Raiders are concerned with who will bring Randy Hanson his lunch.

Look up “dysfunctional” in the dictionary. There’s a Raider logo next to it…
Sad to see what has become of this once-proud franchise.

    a fascinating study in
    1. how not to run an organization, and
    2. what happens when you are tied to a job despite ridiculous situations because you need the money.
Anyone with common sense would leave that nfl sideshow freak of an organization and work elsewhere. Don’t ever let yourself become so dependent upon an employer you cannot walk away when the conditions require you to sacrifice your integrity, principles, etc or make yourself look like an ass.
If you think I am wrong, ask Jim Zorn

Hanson isn’t tied to the job for the money, BLACKQBWHITERB (couldn’t pick a better name?). It’s been explained since the incident first happened that he’s a lifelong Raiders fan. Hanson bleeds Silver and Black.
But a man can only be pushed so far when the boss of the job you love is a man who is totally unreasonable.
I don’t understand how does the team with the coolest helmets and colours turns into the biggest joke in the league? (easy answer: Al Davis). I mean… the Lions are bad but this team… the make the league look bad.

  12. BenRapistberger says: Feb 24, 2010 11:00 AM

    Wow.
Al Davis will never sell the team, so he needs to die so that they can stop embarassing the NFL. This franchise has been beyond mocking for years, it’s beyond funny now it’s just sad. Fitting that they’re known as ‘The Black Hole’.

  13. tomcous says: Feb 24, 2010 11:00 AM

So basically if he does anything beyond what Mr. Davis asks he’ll be “FIRED WITH CAUSE” …
    or
he can quit and not be paid at all …
I’d take the litigation route and setup an account with a local pizza shop for regular deliveries

Hanson is a little b*tch. For once I applaud what Al Davis is doing. That little cry baby deserves it. He put himself in this spot. He works for the Raiders what did he expect, VIP treatment? He should have found out what his new “job” was before he took it. I would love to see him put right in the middle of the black hole. He wouldn’t make it out alive.

  28. BleedGreen says: Feb 24, 2010 11:19 AM

I’m sure he only put up with it because he knew if he quit he’d get nothing. If he puts up with it until they fire him, he’d have a wrongful termination suit against them.
Quitting is what they want you to do. You stay on and follow their ‘rules’ because they don’t think you will.

This is sad stuff….. I have always had respect for Al and the Raiders organization, but the old man is going too far… His methods and direction for the organization are out dated, and the NFL should seriously look into taking the team away from him.
Ever think the NFL is letting this kind of shit go on, because they are just building a case against old Al. Or this is punishment to all Raider fans for the way AL treated the NFL during the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s…. Either way, this kind of behavior would not be allowed in any other organization besides the Redskins….
Good luck Raider fans, I will be rooting for ya….

The biggest jokes in sports today are the many bloggers that try and cover sports. From the photos that they post one can see that playing sports was not a big part of their lifes.
I am sure that Al Davis is just sitting up nights conserned with what your punk &^% jock sniffing *&^ thinks lol. Al Davis and the Raiders do not even know you are alive.
Your folks must be real proud of you. All the money they spent sending you to school. And what is the result?, a bottom tier blogger on the internet lol, sports blogger at that.

  45. HarrisonHits says: Feb 24, 2010 1:19 PM

A fine look into why Al Davis needs to be forced from the NFL as soon as possible if he just doesn’t drop dead soon. When the owner’s senility makes the entire organization so dysfunctional all it does is damage the league every minute he’s allowed to continue operating the team.
I actually feel bad for Raiders fans at this point, something I never dreamed would happen.

  46. Justin says: Feb 24, 2010 1:21 PM

I fail to understand how this guy’s lunch is a daily decision which affects how the team is run. Would somebody care to explain? They made a decision and decided to extend the special treatment. Obviously, there’s still some mending to do between the parties so the Raiders avoided more distractions. This decision didn’t take more than a day or two to mull over and to suggest such a thing makes you look like a fool, Mr. Rosenthal. Quit with the gossip rag. This site has turned into a male soap opera.

No, But I’m sure he expected EQUAL treatment. I’m really curious what your response would be if your boss punched you in the face. I’m even more curious what your response would be if you were then told that nothing was going to happen to your boss, but YOU would now be punished.

The Raiders have always had these different entrances for the administrative staff and when Hanson was put on the administrative side he should have know this would be the case.
There are other reasons for this so it wont hold up in court because these processes have been part of the organization for a long time.
Al was just making a case for Cable. The fact that he didn’t pursue a law suit from the beginning will not look good for Hanson.

  54. ECS - Brougham Boys 74 says: Feb 24, 2010 2:28 PM

The NFL Owners need to get together, take a vote, and kick Al Davis out of the league. I stopped rooting for the Raiders when Madden left – moved to Seattle shortly after that, they had a new team, and then the Raiders moved to LA and it was all over for me. I thank Al Davis for moving to LA just shortly before he went full-bore insane.
For those who don’t know the Raiders well – Al Davis has been pulling this sort of insane crap since well before he ran Marcus Allen out of town. There is a lot of rumor that Madden was run out, decided to leave because he couldn’t deal with Davis’ insanity and megalomania. Davis has alienated every great HOFer to come out of Oakland/LA, and multiple former players (including multiple HOFers) have spoken out publicly that the conditions at Raiders HQ are out of control. Yet the NFL does nothing?
Now that Davis has gone from senility to full-on dementia, it is time for the NFL to step in and do something. Al Davis is harming the NFL, not just the Raiders. Nobody wants to see the Raiders play. When they play a team, that team sees decreased ratings. Give the Raiders back to LA, to a proper ownership group, and the NFL would probably see a 10-20% increase in revenue.
