So given the logic of money, you think the Rams would pay a bloated amount for a quarterback that wouldn’t be a second-rounder in last year’s draft? Nursing an injury? With all the holes that St. Louis have?
The reason why people are sying Suh or McCoy is because they are the best players in the draft, period. They can help your team next season. They can make a difference almost immediately.
If St. Louis takes Sam Bradford, you still have to go out and get a QB out of free agency or in a trade because Sam Bradford will not be able to help you immediately. They guy needs a few seasons holding a clipboard. Jimmy Clausen is more NFL-ready right now. Right now. (I think that Sam Bradford will end up being a better NFL QB, but just not right now.)
I agree with the ESPN team. I think that they need to evaluate their D-backs and make a decision as to whether or not they are going to get Suh or McCoy. If they can build a nice defensive backfield, they’ll get Suh to help shut down the run. If they see too many holes with their D-Backs, they’ll get McCoy to rush the passer.

Schefter, Kiper, McShay all aren’t “idiots”. There’s a lot of work that goes into their method of madness. But even though, Suh and McCoy and even a few others might be better picks, I also believe the Rams will take Bradford. It has nothing to do with talent, it has everything to do with money. Most teams do not want to invest that kind of cash in a defensive end and especially not a safety. If the Rams could, they would do anything and everything in their power to trade down, but you can’t. No team really wants to invest that type of money in ANY of these guys, hence the lack of movement in terms of trading top picks (and of course the trade last year was to pick…a QB). You can read a good article about this exact thing on ESPN.com, John Clayton had a whole thing about it and he also says the Rams will take Bradford. And as ugly and gross as his weird toupee are, he is not an idiot.

What happened to the Rams trading for Josh Johnson rumors? I know all the crazy racists that hate football on this forum will cr@p on this idea but he has a lot of upside and really good mechanics. Yes, I know what good quarterback mechanics are. I’d rather have a guy three seasons into his career than a newbie fresh off shoulder surgery and 4 years in a spread offense.

Schefter’s prediction may have more to do with the Rams recent picks on the DL of Adam Carriker and Chris Long. Adding a #1 overall pick to that group would mean tons of cash tied uo on that DL .
Last year they drafted LT Jason Smith, so they have taken a lineman with the first pick three years in a row. That isn’t putting butts in seats.
People are in love with Suh, but if the Rams believe Bradford is a real franchise QB, then he is the right pick.
As for Clausen, he’s overrated. He was constantly made to look good by some excellent receivers at ND. Clausen is decent at the short stuff, but anything downfield is a jump ball. Golden Tate saved him time and again.

Clausen dosn’t suck but the biggest knock on him is he either has reached his “full potential” or is close to it. A lot of scouts are saying he was coached soo well in college you already pretty much know what you’re getting. The Clausen stuff all hinges on if teams feel he can continue to progress in the NFL instead of just plateauing early and turning into the inevitable bust… (Yeah ND didn’t do so great under Weis but no doubt he knows how to coach up QB’s)
The guy to watch from ND for me is that WR Golden Tate not Claussen..

I think he’s right, Bradford makes sense.
Mt question is, wht do scouts & GM’s every year have one QB that they are so off on.
From Kyle Boller to Parick Ramsey & JaMarcus Russell to Brian Brohm.
This year mark my words, it will be Jimmy Clausen. Anyone who watched a ND game knew that Golden Tate was the best player on the field by far. And if Clausen gets drafted ahead of him that GM will be out of a job within 3 years.
Keep an eye on Levi Brown of Troy, he will end up being one of the top 4 QB’s of this draft.

Tom “Killer” Kowalski of Mlive.com (the best Lions coverage anywhere by a longshot) has been saying this for a couple weeks. He pointed to the huge amount of money that the first pick gets only really making sense for a QB, and the fact that the front office in St. Louis has been losing and can buy themselves some more time if they have a young QB to point to.
Schefter is just the first national talking head to say this.

Bradford would’ve went #1 overall without the injury but Schefter’s really going out on a limb with this. I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened but, guarantees, usually make the person look foolish in the end. If he is healthy and looks good then good for him and, hopefully, he pans out for the Rams or whichever team ends up taking him because watching JaMarcus ruin my franchise along with the owner’s meddling is painful so it will be good to see another suffering franchise get it right if this actually happens. That’s a big if on all accounts.

Shefter has great sources and is really good at his job, but man is he really awkward to listen to. It’s like he gets paid per word.
When you see him on TV he has this thousand yard stare to go along with misplaced emphasis on random words. I used to hate him till I got used to it.
I bet you he is one of those guys that when you are talking to him in person he’s always kinda looking a little to the left of you, but pretending he is making soul piercing eye contact.
