Titans are expected to use restricted free agent tender on Scaife

NFL_scaife.jpgLast year, the Tennessee Titans used the franchise tag on tight end Bo Scaife.

This year, they won’t.  In large part because they don’t have to.  Thanks to the nuances of the uncapped year, Scaife is a restricted free agent, even though he would have been an unrestricted free agent in 2009 but for the use of the franchise tag.

Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper reports that the Titans are expected to apply a restricted free agency tender to Scaife.

Under the CBA, he’ll be entitled to receive 110 percent of his 2009 salary of $4.46 million, which equates to $4.9 million.  The franchise tender for tight ends this year is $5.9 million.

Sciafe presumably will be tendered at the highest possible level, entitling the Titans to a first-round pick and a third-round pick if Scaife gets an offer that Tennessee chooses not to match.

Al Davis is all over this, as due to his poor eyesight, his mistook Scaife’s 2009 salary ($4.46 mil) for his time in the forty yard dash.
Expect an announcement soon the Scaife has signed with the Raiders.
