Lions won’t rule out LaDanian Tomlinson

Speaking at the Scouting Combine regarding running back LaDainian Tomlinson, Lions coach Jim Schwartz wouldn’t rule out a pursuit of the man whom many think is a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

We’ll look at every way we can to improve the team,” Schwartz said, per the Associated Press. “I don’t think we make any decisions and just blanket say, ‘No, we’re not interested.’ Every player has something they can bring and if they can help us win, we’ll look at just about everything. I have a tremendous amount of respect for [Tomlinson].”

This, of course, ignores the question of whether Tomlinson would rule out the Lions. Based on his comments from Wednesday, however, we’ve got a feeling that his primary factors are size of contract and extent of workload, and that he’d be willing to join even a victory-challenged franchise if it means having a chance to be the lead dog again.

Though Kevin Smith is the top tailback in Detroit, he’s currently rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in December 2009. So while L.T. to Detroit might seem like a crazy proposition on the surface, maybe it really isn’t.
