Shanahan really knows what Portis is made of. After all, he traded him to the Skins for Champ Bailey. Portis gets $6 million regardless, so keep him, put his nose to the grindstone, make him get in shape, then play him – - if he shapes up; otherwise, put him as a reserve running back. Not being #1 will hurt his psyche. Idea: Really make him run during the preseason games where it doesn’t count, and don’t let him take himself out of a game.
Oh yes – -and make him take Danny Boy off his speed dial.

With Shanny at the helm I have full faith in his decisions. I love seeing everyone get on here and speculate on what could happen. Lets all just stay cool until the season starts and then celebrate when Shanny is leading the Lombardi trophy down Pennsylvania Ave in a few short years.

Coach Shanahan has no choice but to indirectly send a message to Clinton that selfish ,foolish behavior is now over in Washington !!! 6 million guaranyteed makes this the proper response. Look for a new offensive line and a no nonsense coach and the pride of Clinton Portis to make many people surprised by his production this year.

I live in DC and hate the Skins, so I hope Portis (who is a cancer) sticks around to continue to poison the lockerroom. He’s your running back because you can’t get rid of him without paying him what he’s owed. If there wasn’t a penalty for letting him go that quote would have been “He WAS a great running back for this ball club”. Followed by some quotes about them respecting his work ethic, all the things he’s done for the team and how they will all miss him.

cp isn’t done. If shnahan can put the drama to rest and clinton comes ready to play, skins fans will be happy. If he comes in camp out of shape and still a problem in the locker room, he will be cut and fans will be grateful as well. Either way its a win win. Alridge will get a legit chance this year and hopefully push portis. last year he was the kid Shanahan told vinny he should go get because he thought “he was the quickest guy he has ever seen on a football field.” This year he will get some touches and hopefully contribute. You know he will also bring in a back through the draft too. hopefully he works his magic and finds a gem in the late rounds like he has a number of times in the past.
