Source: Thomas Jones will not restructure, will be released

Thomas Jones’ successful run as a New York Jet is about to end.

A league source tells PFT’s Mike Florio that Jones will not restructure his contract, as the team hoped.  The Jets will release Jones this week before paying him a $2.8 million roster bonus.

Jones slowed down towards the end of 2009, but he’s run for over 2,700 yards the last two seasons.

We suspect Jones will be more in demand than nearly all running backs about to hit the market, including Chester Taylor, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Brian Westbrook.  Darren Sproles figures to get the best contract of the free agent running back crop.

    How old is he?
Maybe he will end up in Cleveland.

Ill take anyone of those( Cept for Sproles) in Cleveland for a year or 3 while we groom a young RB

Is it me or whenever there is news that someone is about to be available, the Patriots fans think all of them should sign with New England. News flash – you guys are not that good anymore. Believe it or not, not all free agents want to play with pretty boy Brady.

They never mention Larry Johnson, what’s up with that? 7 games with bengals 46 rushes 204 yds 4.4 0 avg last season. Larry Johnson is better than all free agent running backs available except for maybe Thomas Jones. I hope the Steelers sign him and he proves he is better than the critics think.

    GBP
its because us Patriot fans are in the SUPER BOWL talk every year………unlike your over-rated packers

  9. FumbleNuts says: Feb 27, 2010 10:22 PM

Jones and Harrison in Cleveland would be fun to watch.

He was here in AZ. No o line then. He sure proved himself behind a good o line. I think the Jets are making a mistake.

I think the Texans should show interest…
I also think the Chargers have to talk to him…

  12. Little Tommy says: Feb 27, 2010 10:30 PM

The Bears should have never let him go. They traded him away and kept that slacker Benson instead and it cost them their running game. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

    GBP sound like a tool!
yeah they are not the most talented team accept for 2007, but for the most part, players actually want to play for New England, its just they hate the pay………but you are a Packers fan, so enough said!

R2M nailed it….Texans need his physical style of running. Great fit.

  15. eagles_5_beast says: Feb 27, 2010 11:39 PM

Omg the eagles should sign him. They need a powerback and a mentor for lesean McCoy

  16. madsqgrdn says: Feb 27, 2010 11:48 PM

He’s not going anywhere for free. If they can’t trade him they are going to hold on to him . People are making something out of nothing

  17. Smoking Joe says: Feb 28, 2010 12:06 AM

At least it will early enough in the year for him to go out and commit a murder or at least a DUI manslaughter. That would almost guarantee him a roster spot with the Bengals or Ravens

  18. WTBucs says: Feb 28, 2010 12:34 AM

I would have said San Diego needs a running back….but after they let go Turner, Tomlinson, and Sproles….nevermind.

Gee another stupid move by the Jets owner….
so close this year and he screws them again…..

as several here had said (and as i’ve been hoping for a few weeks), please come to the browns

The Chargers should try to get Shonn Greene instead. He can still find the end zone in S.D. and he knows the celebration….

I’m sure Cromartie won’t stand in the way…

  22. Adam says: Feb 28, 2010 3:35 AM

TJ was awesome for the Jets. Whatever team picks him up will get a good RB while they wait for a franchise RB to emerge. Then they’ll get rid of him. Repeat the cycle.

ROFL. LJ sucks. MAYBE that’s why? not to mention, he carries so much baggage. Isn’t it like 3 women punched in the face in 3 seasons? Yeah. everyone wants THIS BRUISER on their team.
I still think Chester Taylor is the best back available, and even the best back on the Vikings. Only reason he isn’t starting is because the Vikings overpaid that shitty fumbleaya known as Ricky Waters… errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Adrian Peterson.

Shonn Greene just became a 1st round fantasy RB
