You know, maybe the Chargers can take a big, strong Michael Turner type running back with one of their many picks. Maybe they can also find a guy or two with their other picks that isn’t a drunk driver, cop fighter, ‘roid taker, “purple drank” pusher, or kid making factory. Then, if they try real hard, they can mow through their weak division and lose in the playoffs again! They have that AFL Championship to lean back on though, right?

You sound like one of those typical people that talks trash, but can’t handle it when it is given back to you.
No, the Chargers have never won the SB, but they have won the AFL championship before they became part of the NFL.
Eli was in the right place at the right time and won a ring. The defense did most of the work. I will be shocked if Eli ever wins another SB ring.
In regards to Brees/Rivers, read my previous post, you might actually learn something.
Now do you grow up and act like an adult, or do you attempt to comeback with some witty line. Doing so will just prove that you are so insecure that you need to get in the last word.

If Brees had played better sooner, then they probably wouldn’t have drafted Rivers. That draft would have been real interesting though. Do they still draft Eli, and then trade him to the highest bidder? If so, for what?
Even after Rivers was drafted, it was Marty who played Brees in that end of the season meaningless game where Brees got injured, that really was the problem. The Chargers did offer Brees a contract after the injury. He ended up signing with the Saints instead.
Remember, there was no guarantee that Brees would come back from that injury. That injury was one of those 1-100 will comeback and play effectively type of injuries. Who is going to sign a player to a long term contract with guaranteed money with that type of injury without having proof that the player can still play?

Hey OldNo7 – The fact that they have never won the big game is exactly why their draft doesn’t matter. It matters to other teams. No doubt that NO is happy they chose Rivers and decided to let Brees go, as are the NYG I’m sure happy for the trade with Eli. See, those teams have actually accomplished something. It’s a rebuilding year in San Diego. Last year tore their hearts out. There will be a talent drain followed by free agents and draft choices trying to learn the system. Meanwhile, Rivers gets older and the clock is ticking on his knees.

There really ought to be a limit to how many players you can tender at the highest level. Everyone knows the Chargers won’t match and just take the picks. Yes, some team will be dumb enough and desperate enough to make the offers. Some team always does.

That means Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd and Shawne Merriman and Marcus McNeill all got the highest tender.
If each of those players get raided, the mysterious rule is in effect that states if 4 players with high tenders are raided, you get credit for a 5th as well.
