Here is something for all you limp diks to consider:
Any team that drafts Rolle will be paying a large sum of money guaranteed to him. They have the absolute right to ask any question they see fit. If we would of “tanked” the interview like some a lot of people here would, it would mean he is weak mentally. It would mean he could not handle adversity and his critical thinking skills were on par with a hamster. They want to see if he WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL AND NOT JUST CASH A CHECK. If he couldn’t handle the question he probably wouldn’t be a Rhodes Scholar or a NFL football player, he would be you. That is difference between somebody with drive(ROLLE) and somebody who is going to walk away(YOU) when challenged. As a result he will be rich and cure cancer. While you will still deliver pizza to pay for law school.

Florio, you tear down Tebow for responding to questions by saying “blessed” or “blessing” (not praying in public as you misrepresent the scriptures) and call him a fake. Now, you tear down the Bucs for asking a tough question targeted at the player’s emotional response. Shouldn’t they ask tough questions? He’s not angry, why are you?
If calling people a certain name, such as “deserter” or “fake”, without any real evidence makes a person an “a-hole” or “turd”, then by your own definition thats what you are. You come across as a Pharisee throwing stones.

Last year everyone was up in arms at the audacity of the 49ers for asking a player (a $40 Million player) about their parents divorce (which could psychologically come into play), now a guy basically calls Myron Rolle a deserter for going to Oxford and its an ok question. The 49ers just seem to be on the wrong end of every double standard (tampering).

Asking the question “So how did it feel to desert your team?” is not exactly questioning the commitment Rolle had to his team when he left his team for OXFORD. Oxford will give Myron Rolle more oppertunities than the NFL ever will. He also, instead of going to Oxford, could have gone into the NFL last year.
He has said he wanted to play in the NFL for 10 years. I think that credibility of words and actions could probably apply to this guy more than most, since he will end up doing more good for this world than all of us combined.
Would the same question have been asked if he “deserted” FSU for the NFL? This question was out of line because it was a simply a stupid question. Maybe asking Maurice Clarett or Mike Williams that question would have been more fitting.

The ineptness of the Bucs coaching staff shows quite clearly in this incident. The Glazers are fast becoming one of the 3 worst owners of NFL teams after Crazy Al Davis and Ralph Wilson. As long as this coaching staff is in Tampa the team will go nowhere fast.

Everyone knows that playing in the NFL is a privilege that not many people will have a chance to do.
What most people don’ t understand is how rare it is to be a Rhodes Scholar. Myron didn’t desert his team, he tried to better himself. Mike Williams of Syracuse abandoned his team, see the difference here?
Ten years of playing pro football leaves him in his early 30′s, which means he still has 30 years of work ahead of him. Please realize that there are student athletes who take their studies more seriously than sports (gasp, it actually does happen).

While it’s a legitimate concern (how long will he play / how serious is about football), the question, as it was phrased to Rolle, was stupid.
Clearly, it was asked by someone who may know a lot about football but not much else.
Surprisingly, most people who graduate early from college are lauded for their intelligence and drive, not questioned about their motives.
I agree with the poster above, if I was in Rolle’s position, once this question was asked, I’d have tanked the rest of the interview with the Bucs.

If he can’t handle the ?…he shouldn’t be drafted. As an NFL player any and all ?’s will be asked. I agree that in the interviews the teams should ask any ? they want. It’ll go to show how the player handles the pressure of the press.
This is an interview…if he wants the job..answer it…if not don’t….Rolle has a choice.
I’d lower a players draft position a lot if they can’t take the off the field pressure.

Yeah, I’m with a couple of others here, I don’t see why it’s offensive to check where a guy’s commitment is. No point drafting a guy who’s going to quit football and go to med school as soon as the team has one bad season. Caring about your education and wanting to be a neurosurgeon one day are all fantastic things, but if you’re managing a football team you want to know that your guys are 100% committed to football.
If you run a hospital you’d hire the neurosurgeon who’s totally committed to medicine, not the doctor who wants to play as much football as possible in his spare time instead of reading the latest medical research. Can’t see why the reverse should be any different.

So who leaked the asking of this question to the media? I might actually “throw” the interview if I didnt want a team to draft me.
Maybe its a good technique to ask these guys offensive questions to see how they would react in public or in the media.
“So I hear your mother sleeps around a lot, how did that affect you growing up?”
