Eagles, Leonard Weaver close to new contract

Fullback Leonard Weaver may sign a new contract with the Philadelphia Eagles before Friday, when he is set to become a restricted free agent.

Weaver told Philly.com on Saturday that he thinks a deal is close.

Weaver’s agent, Harold Lewis, added on Sunday that he and Eagles officials had “good meetings” in Indianapolis during the scouting combine, although he added that there was “nothing more to report than that.”

Weaver played in all 16 games for the Eagles in 2009, starting eight of them. Heading into the season Weaver was expected to be mostly a blocker and occasional receiver out of the backfield, but he was surprisingly productive running the ball, with 70 carries for 323 yards and two touchdowns.
