Snyder responds to report of $600,000 alligator desks

The folks at Page 6, the gossip section of the New York Post, report that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder recently plunked down $600,000 for two alligator leather desks with matching alligator-skin chairs.

And the report is more than mere gossip.  The guy who owns the new Giorgio’s of Palm Beach store on Madison Avenue said that the order had been placed, and that the furniture would be delivered in six weeks.

Snyder has responded to the report, about which we likely would never have known but for the denial.

“The story is crazy,” Snyder said in a release from the team.  “I don’t even own a pair of alligator shoes.”

Team COO Dave Donovan said that the team is “demanding a retraction” from the Post.  (The Redskins also should demand that the guy who owns the store set the record straight — or settle any legal claims, via payment in the amount of two alligator leather desks with matching alligator-skin chairs.)

Making the dynamics a bit more interesting is the fact that the guy who owns the Post also owns FOX, the network that televises the NFC package of Sunday afternoon games.

They make desks out of alligators? That’s awesome. I’d like to see the late Steve Irwin’s desk(s).

I hope Danny did buy that bedroom set. If you have money, spend it.
With that being said can we now have Antrelle Rolle, Karlos Dansby, and perhaps J. Peppers?

Who the f*ck cares…let the man spend the money that he’s made. If he wanted to order 300 pens made out of bald eagle beaks, I couldn’t care less.
This has nothing to do with football. Move along.

well maybe this will be the first thing Snyder wins!
IMO, the Redskin fans are a bunch of losers for giving this guy their hard earned cash

Sadly, that’s probably the most prudent spending this clown has done since he’s owned the team.

Yeah I am going to agree with the above comments, who gives a damn what kind of desks he buys? The man has worked hard to earn his money and can spend it as he wishes. No one seems to care when a player blows 600 grand on a necklace or a watch, so who cares what this guy does.
Nice jab at Fox in there too Florio, I am sure that will ignite a political debate to follow giving you 150 comments.

A subtle rewrite makes this clearer:
    Billionaire buys expensive stuff
WASHINGTON, D. C. – Dan Snyder spent a lot of money on some furniture. Dan Snyder has a lot of money, likes buying cool things and enjoys the look of alligator hide.
There is nothing newsworthy here at all – not that I discourage PFT from posting items of this nature.

Sure is. But if you’re in labor negotiations with your employees and your main claim is that the last labor deal has caused NFL teams to be unprofitable, it’s probably a bad idea to blow the better part of a million bucks on a desk.
It would be sort of like showing up to your alimony hearing in a Ferrari.

Hey, the guy has money and can buy anything he wants…too bad he can’t use some of that money to buy some football smarts/common sense since he obviously needs both. I feel bad for Redskins fans (I have 3 friends who are disgusted that he can’t shut up and let the coaches and DOO do their jobs). Oh, well, as long as he keeps doing what he’s doing, I will never have to worry about the ‘Skins being a threat in the NFL.

    @CBS,FOX,ESPN,NFLN nbc
Im with you brother. Money is only good for what it can buy you and here is what i came up with as far as comparing Danny’s money to other NFL franchises and us “common folk”.
i know people who go out and buy a 20,000 dollar car when they are only making like 60,000 before taxes. Thats like 33% of their income. Snyder only spent 17% of his 2009 income on Haynesworth’s 4 year 42 million dollar contract (for all intensive purposes). Go Figure. I would say Danny is in better shape here. He still has over 185 million from 2009 to spend. On the contrary, If Albert would have signed the same contract with Denver it would account for 23% of their 09 earnings. Hell if he signed with the Cardinals it would account for 33% of their 09 money. Subtract Haynesworth contract (42 mil paid in full) skins are still 4th in league income in 09. Get my drift? This is based on Snyder’s 227 million dollars in 2009 earnings.
    http://www.teenanalyst.com/business/nflteams.html
Who cares if he gives Peppers 18 million/year for 4 years, 40 million guarenteed. Its not our money and when its said and done its still a smaller % of a majority of team’s expenses to earnings ratio around the league.
Spend away Danny. Bring on Dansby, Rolle, Peppers, Sproles and even Dunta Robinson. This chance will only come once in a lifetime. So what if you give these guys a majority of their money in the up front (makes following years under the cap managable), you will make every penny and some back! BTW, what are the rules? Can you pay these guys up front avoiding big hits in the future?
    HAIL SUCKA!

  29. BLACKQBWHITERB says: Mar 2, 2010 2:34 PM

What does the owner of the Post also owning Fox got to do with it???
If it keeps him to broke to overpay Julius Peppers, Antrelle Rolle, and Karlos Dansby it’s a good investment.

that analogy sucks. Snyder made his cash before he bought the Skins, and his and other owners argument is that the TEAMs are not as profitable as they used to be.

Snyder did not build the stadium. Snyder did not refuse to pay the MVA to do a traffic analysis. Snyder did not tell the construction company that he didn’t care what they said he wants the parking designed this way…
That was JKC. All of that game day experience (other than the loosing) is on JKC.

  45. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Mar 2, 2010 3:46 PM

Good for Danny. His fan base is free to pay for whatever entertainment they are getting from his franchise and he should be able to do whatever he wants with the money.
It’s not like $600,000 will help them get a Super Bowl, so why not?
Danny, I know where you can get…

  46. droppingloads says: Mar 2, 2010 3:49 PM

It was the redskins who were suing unemployed season ticket holders for not paying? Now we know why Snyder is so harsh.

Are you under the impression that the salary cap as it existed before will magically return after a one year hiatus? The guy has spent like a billion bucks worth of free agent contracts and it has won him jack. Mainly because he always spends it on crap and never gives the team a chance to build chemistry. You, like Dan Snyder, will never learn.

  53. D.C. Sports Fan says: Mar 2, 2010 5:10 PM

Why is no one talking about Dunta robinson to the Redskins? Top flight CB, maybe not the Elite CB, but better than CR, Smoot, or KB. He was the top corner in Houston and he would be great alongside Hall, which would push Carlos to nickel (I think CR would be a great nickel).
We don’t need Sproles. Dansby would be great. Rolle would be alright, but I would prefer Mays. Peppers is soooo unnecessary (he would be old school Redkins free agency).

  54. paranoidandroid says: Mar 2, 2010 5:42 PM

Among other things he has solidified his position as the 2nd worst owner in the league. Al Davis has the honors.
I heard a story once that he was at a party with some big names in Washington one night when a prominent businessman (who happened to be much older than him) approached him and said, “Danny, great party!” To which he followed up, “That’s Mr Snyder.” Such an ass! Glad he has driven that franchise into the shitter

Being poor or middle class doesn’t give you the right to tell rich people what they can spend their money on.
Warren Buffet chooses to be frugal. Good for him. A lot of very wealthy folks do. Dan Snyder chooses to spend his wealth. And why shouldn’t he? You can’t take it with you when you die. He earned it.
