After months of speculation, rumor, and conjecture regarding the future of receiver Brandon Marshall in Denver, the answer finally has arrived.
He has none.
The Broncos have placed the first-round tender on the four-year veteran, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
As a result, Marshall can sign with any team. The Broncos have a right to match the offer, and if they don’t they receive only a first-round pick as compensation.
The move likely will be interpreted as an indication that the Broncos are ready to move on. If they wanted to keep Marshall, they surely would have used the highest possible tender, which would have required both a first-round pick and a third-round pick as compensation, for a contract with a value only $600,000 greater than the $2.521 million payday that applies to the first-round tender.
The Broncos also could be willing to trade Marshall’s rights for something less than a first-round pick.
Then again, some might think that the Broncos’ goal is to get another team to sign Marshall to a long-term deal, and then match it. This raises the issue of the Steve Hutchinson/Nate Burleson poison pill, which no one has used since 2006 — even though the device remains a viable tool for fostering player movement.
Our guess? Someone with a low first-round pick like the Ravens will sign him to an offer sheet. Whether the offer sheet contains a poison pill remains to be seen.
Ravens will come knocking, along with the Dolphins, could see Ginn Jr. in a Bronco’s uniform.
The Bengals better offer him a contract! There’s no WR in the draft worth the #21 overall pick (unless Dez Bryant falls) and Marshall is an established stud. Make it happen, don’t let him go to Baltimore!
what a bunch of idiots letting one of the best receivers go for a first round pick, any of the bottom 15 would give up their first round pick for him.
Go get him Ozzie!
Our Guess?
The Broncos have had enough of the idiot and are actually willing to take less than his value, (as would normally be asked for for a player of his talent) to get rid of him and the non-stop drama.
Please come to Miami….
Only a One to get it done?
Just goes to show, that while the rest of the league is playing checkers, Da Bears are eating paste. They need to change their mascot to Ralph Wiggum:
Ralph: “Oh boy… Sleep! That’s where I’m a Viking!”
i never get why teams draft someone, turn him into a stud, then trade him away
come on buffalo step up here
if you must go i think the Vikes should offer Berrian and their first rounder for B-Marsh
Mabye the bears will use their 1st round pick for Marshall?
Oh, Wait….
Maybe the bears will use next year’s 1st round pick for Marshall?
Oh, Wait….
Ladies and Gentlemen your new Detroit Lions – The chicago bears
enjoy!
I can see the Ravens trading T Gaither for WR Marshall straight up. Put Oher on the Left side and draft another big Tackle for the Right side.
Just goes to show, that while the rest of the league is playing checkers, Da Bears are eating paste.
… what do the Bears have to do with it?
I think Brandon Marshall is great, if he goes somewhere else half of Denver fans will be pissed and half will be happy.
“Then again, some might think that the Broncos’ goal is to get another team to sign Marshall to a long-term deal, and then match it.”
That could happen… no one knows, especially everyone that posts here (including myself) that believe we know more than the guys running all the franchises.
I think we need to remember that Marshall is one incident away from a year long break from football. A lot of teams might not think that is a risk that wanna take. Who knows….. not I.
If the Broncos get a first round pick in exchange for Marshall there is no guarantee that McDaniels won’t screw this one up also as he did last year by selecting Moreno in the first round when there were more pressing needs.
The only difference between this year and last is that the Broncos now have multiple pressing needs like QB, WR, RB, DL and LB as opposed to last year when their needs were mostly on D.
The Bengals would be wise to add Marshall. If they don’t, they can expect to face him twice next year in a Ravens uniform.
maybe “LarryBird18″ will realize that the Bears DO have a 1st round pick next year, and stop posting asinine comments that bring the quality of this site down while at the same time making him look like the braindead twit asshole that he is.
Oh, wait….

LOL! Good Stuff
Poo Flinging Monkey is 100% correct. If the Bengals don’t get Marshall, they’ll be seeing him twice a year with the Ravens.
Ante up Brown family, don’t let this opportunity pass by. Chad needs someone on the other side. Carson needs a proven weapon. Hell, spend the money and bring Scheffler too. Keep dreaming….I know……
The Bronco’s clearly don’t want to deal with Marshall anymore because only putting the tender that allows a team to go after him for just a first round pick shows they really are looking to move him it’s just now for what (possibly a 2nd round pick?) I’ll hold my Ravens bias out of this for a second because believe me I want him in BMORE (but then again long term it would cost more to get him, just look at my comment on the Kevin Walter post) and for the fans in Denver be happy to get rid of him because he doesn’t want to play there and why would you want a player on your team who doesn’t want to be there? If someone was talking bad about the Ravens I would want him to be dealt or just flat out cut but the Bronco’s could go out and add more talent in this draft because this draft is deep and the Bronco’s could get some picks that could address that defense that needs to be fixed in the front seven as well as going out and maybe getting a qb (Tony Pike?) in the 2nd round for that pick the Bronco’s would acquire. So the Bronco’s should hold out hope that a team like the Dolphins will give up a first round because Baltimore won’t give them a first round pick and CHI doesn’t have a first round pick and so the only team I could think of as being that desperate would be the Dolphins because The Tuna is aggressive and would believe he could control Marshall but Marshall will not be a Bronco IMO but I could be wrong.
it would not be surprising to see him go to the Jets. Other possible destinations could be the Ravens, Dolphins or Patriots.
I feel that San Fran or the Seahawks should go after him cause they both have two first round picks and they both need a dynamic WR and Marshall would be the answer.
As a diehard broncos fan I will be sad to see him go…he is our BEST player. While I couldn’t stant his antics like it or not he earned a new deal…This is about the Broncos current cash poor situation
Larry Bird…Where’s the bears first round pick next year? oh wait…..somewhere around the end of round 1 probably.
This is actually the place where the Denver front office wants to be.
Tendering Marshall at just a first lets the Broncos entertain offers and then judge whether they’re worthy of letting Marshall go. If Denver feels that Marshall needs to stay they can just match the offer instead of doing all the negotiations with Marshall himself (which have to be mind numbingly painful, given Marshall is a selfish idiot who got Darrent Williams killed).
Anybody who is sad to see Marshall leave is not very astute. He DIDN’T WIN US GAMES. Even when be broke the receptions in a game record we STILL LOST.
Get a one and be glad the violent, misogynistic mongoloid is gone.
I hope the Broncos match the offer, it pisses him off and he throws a fit, holds out, gets in trouble in camp and then again I can get him as a late draft pick in my fantasy league like I did last year LOL
what a bunch of idiots letting one of the best receivers go for a first round pick
Who gives up a 1st round pick for a malcontent?
I must reply to MOST of the above posters who are MORE knowledgeable about how the NFL works. Then the GM’s
GMX knows what the other GM’s value his CBA players at and he has set equalivant values.
Marshall is only worth a 1st if you look at production/character/leadership, now another GM may have bigger needs for WR and offer a 1st and a player. You and I do not know that but GMX does.
LOVE Orton and Kuper at 1st tender. It shows that they are valued as NFL starter. Would I take a 1st for Kuper around say the 20 pick (Houston) YES then take Pouncey or Williams. But I want Kuper.
Boy if the Broncos get a 2nd for Scheffler, IMO that would be a steal. OBTW, who ever the idiot above that suggested that Greg Olsen is better than Scheffler, WRONG, check the stats and both can not block.
NAH, I think the Bronco organization is right on track letting the other GM’s market value their CBA players.
BTW, the ‘poision pill’ contracts were stopped in 2007.
Denver is Hell for Marshall. Darrent Williams died by a bullet that was meant for Brandon. He has screwed up and grown up. He will do better with a clean slate elsewhere. In the mean time the Broncs can use an extra first-rounder to fill any number of other holes. I say it is a win-win for the team and the player.
Broncos to other teams: You want Marshall? Come and get him!
