Two disappointing high profile quarterbacks are better than one.
That’s the theory the Cardinals have anyway, following the news that the team is interested in signing David Carr.
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic tweeted the news, which makes perfect sense. Carr can commiserate with Matt Leinart about the pressures of getting drafted too high, while playing the dutiful backup role if required.
We wouldn’t see a true quarterback training camp competition emerging, but it’s telling the Cardinals have made finding an alternative to Leinart at priority. They need options.
Carr was ranked second in PFT’s free agency quarterback rankings, so there aren’t many better choices on the open market.
Our free agent rankings, of course, are foolproof. Maybe the Cardinals have been reading them.

The Cardinals should move on from Leinart, but given the pick/contract he has to get another chance. —and in the the mean time giving David Carr another chance isn’t that bad of an idea. Carr needed a few years off to recover from the beating he took in Houston.
Carr was the most sacked QB while playing with the Texans. His offensive line was horrible.

what an annoying bunch that was. line’s fault, dominic davis’(best franchise back to date) fault, then the receiver’s fault. jabar gaffney was one of the biggest fault havers. he seemed to do just fine anywhere else he went. coaches fault, always SOMEBODIES fault. but not david’s.
florio seems sold on it being the line’s fault. it was their fault his entire tenure down here, amongst the others that shared fault…

I’ve watched him carefully as a Giant fan and if the Cards line can protect, Carr can play… Especially with those receivers, it’s a good place for him.
I feel bad for Carr. The dude was on his back 98% of the time with Houston and it has obviously had an affect on him. He wasn’t drafted too high his team just failed to protect him. And he is better than Leinart so expect him to be the starter.

Not really a revelation that the Cardinals need an alternative to Leinart. If Warner had demanded that they sacrifice #7 on a stone altar as the price of returning for the 2010 season, they would have at least considered it.
That said, I’m not so sure they’re looking at Carr as an alternative to Leinart, but rather to . . . uh, who was the Cardinals #3 QB last year?
There might be an upgrade from Leinart to be had, but it sure doesn’t look like it’ll come from the list of available Free Agents.
David Carr would be one of the better quarterbacks in the NFC West. Sadly, that is not a compliment.

They both can commiserate about PFT and it’s utter lack of an ability to fully analyze a situation beyond that of the typical fan.
True Carr may not be a great QB but he is far from a Ryan Leaf!!!! I think he would be a back up for most teams, he can come in and play a few downs when a starter gets hurt or even a couple games. Not like they want to sign him to be the starter.
Carr is no where near the bust that Leaf was… Leaf imploded, he couldn’t handle the pressure of being an NFL QB… Carr was drafted by a franchise that failed to provide him with any
O-Line support what-so-ever over his 7-8 season tenure.

I am a Giants fan and agree with this 100%. If he’s protected he can light it up. I’m actually upset the giants didn’t decide to keep him. I liked the insurance the Gmen had in him.

im so glad that david carr failed at the NFL level so that we dont have to hear the stupid car jokes anymore. its the worst possible choice for a headline related to him. and most often used.
