Colon's agent hopes to catch a whiff of a trade

We noted yesterday that it wouldn’t be that crazy for a team to consider giving up a first-round pick to sign restricted free agent Willie Colon away from the Steelers.

Colon’s agent, Joe Linta, unsurprisingly agrees.

“We really don’t know if he fits in their [long-term] plans,” Linta told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  “If you have the fifteenth pick and you need a starting offensive lineman,
why wouldn’t you do it [make a trade]? You hope your draft pick is
good. With Willie, you know what you’re getting.”

Linta calls Colon the best young right tackle in football.  While that notion may seem a little wacky, he’s got some numbers to back it up.

We don’t expect Colon to sign an offer sheet elsewhere, but he’s one of the few quality restricted free agent quality starters that could legitimately draw interest.

  1. i think if you give up 8 sacks to the BROWNS, you need all the O-line help you can get…….
    just sayin’

Not really sure what this means, but I assume it means that this player has more quality than you could handle!

  3. Colon has the potential to be a dominant Guard in this league.
Too bad the Steelers play him at tackle…

  4. The Raiders might as well give up their #1 pick for Colon (instead drafting the workout warrior ” Bruce Campbell from Maryland like everyone is projecting).
Can’t be any worse than giving up a #1 in 2011 for a 30 year old DL with an expiring contract(that has won multiple Super Bowl) who doesn’t really want to be on a bad team (imagine that).

  5. the Raiders could give away their #1 if they are sick of paying top 10 money every year. That would be an interesting way for a team to stick another team with the cost associated with a high #1 draft pick just before the end of the salary cap era!

  6. A smart team will NOT sign him to an offer sheet. Rather, they will contact the Stoolers and negotiate, similar to what KC did with NE on Cassle, who received a high tender (1st/3rd). I would offer no more than a mid round 2nd for him.

  7. I would be all for trading him for a first rounder. With the depth of this year’s draft, especially if its top 15. They could go after Brian Bulaga, or a DB.

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  9. Does Colon’s agent also represent Larry Foote?
Don’t give him up for anything less than a top 10 pick.

  10. Wow…some mathematically genius came up with a program to rate football players. Too bad football is played on the field and not the classroom.
Colon is average at best…he is consistently fooled on fake inside blitz with real outside blitz coming.
If someone wants to give up a 1st rounder…the Steelers would be nuts not to take it.

  11. These people have Raiders on the Brain or what. Kind of reminds me of the Jesse James Flick with Brad Pitt in it. Ford a clear wannabe is sitting at the table with, “my first name has 5 letters in it and your first name has 5 letters in it, I am a dunce and you are a dunce”.
It is now just starting to sink in what scares the once mighty Raiders left on these many punks and the teams that they jump to from year to year. Many act as if Al Davis started their Mother on the pipe. I love it, all my Mouse and Chicken Mascot Team loving trash.

What is he smoking, and where do I get some? As a Browns fan, I hope they keep Colon.
