Dolphins save dollars on tenders for Fasano, Brown

The Dolphins placed an “original round” tender on tight end Anthony Fasano Wednesday, according to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald.

That’s the tender that basically says we like you plenty, but not that much. Fasano is out of luck because it’s unlikely he’ll get signed elsewhere. He’s due $1.176 million.

That wasn’t the only cost-saving decision Miami made Wednesday. The team had a club option to retain Ronnie Brown for $5 million, but declined it according to Armando Salguero.

Instead, they will offer him a one-year first-round tender as a restricted free agent. Brown is now due $3.97 million, 110% of his 2009 salary.

We doubt any team will give up a first-round pick for Brown, but we’ll be watching with interest to see if there are any nibbles out there. It’s a similar situation to Jason Campbell.

The new RFA rules should be good for trade speculation and thus good for PFT.
