Kapinos is pissed about not being tendered

Plenty of restricted free agents are upset about the fact that they won’t get a chance to change teams once the 2010 league year begins.

Packers punter Jeremy Kapinos is pissed that his team isn’t exercising its ability to hold him in place.

Kapinos is an exclusive-rights free agent, but the Packers are letting him go by not extending a qualifying offer to him.

“I assume somebody needs to be held accountable or sacrificed for the
net and [inside-the-20] production,” Kapinos told Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette via text message.  “While I do admit I needed to improve and I was
at fault for some of it, I won’t agree with anyone I was the lone
liability.  I think it’s very irresponsible to place the blame on one
person.  [Special teams] won’t improve if that’s the philosophy, I would
hope there is a sense of accountability across the board. . . .

“[I just] think somebody needed to go down,” Kapinos said.  “I believe I can
and will improve, already taken steps, lost 15 [pounds] and have been
doing my drills.  NFL is a journey and I look forward to the next step,
I believe I’ll get another chance this year.”

Kapinos became the punter late in the 2008 season, and he held the job in 2009.

On a brighter note, they say the UFL might be expanding.  And the AFL is coming back.

  1. Even though he wasn’t the primary problem with the STs, he still wasn’t very good at all.

  2. Kapinos, we tendered NINE different guys. You weren’t one of them because you aren’t good. We obviously weren’t being stingy with the tenders. If you were decent, you would have got one. Face the facts.

  3. A bit surprised. Figured they would at least have him in camp. Unless he gets not hit from other teams, I don’t see him resigning for less money.

  4. That’s the way to do it, throw your team under the bus so all the other teams interested in you suddenly won’t be as interested.

  5. The guy sucked, period. BYe,Bye Stone Foot or as in the infamous ETrade Commercial.

  6. My prediction is that he wouldn’t be on any NFL roster next season much less the Packers.
Wait, the Vikings tend to sign all ex Packers whether they are any good or not so I will modify my prediction to say that he will not be on a professional football team next year much less the Packers.

  7. Kapinos was ranked 35th among punters in net average, in a league with 32 teams. That’s pretty sad when not only every starter played better than you, but players who were backups or off-the-street signings come in and out-perform you.

  8. As a Packer fan I do hope he gets another chance to be a punter, with another team!
I did look up the stats for 2009 and the Packers really didn’t do too bad. It just seemed like if the Packers needed a punt inside the 20 or closer he just didn’t make the good punt.

  9. The dumbass move by “executive of the year” was to get rid of Jon Ryan who led the league in punting last year in favor of no punter on the roster who turned into this turd Kapinos.
Nice “Boy did I screw the pooch” moment Ted Thompson.

  10. Did he actually expect the Packers to tender him? No other team would want to sign him; he was terrible.

  11. Pperformance driven result. Your Special Teams coach should have been fired as well, guess him using a wireless mic during practice saved him.

  12. I don’t know what he’s so pissed about. Statistically, he was the worst punter in the league. Why would he expect to get tendured when he is the worst at his position in the entire league! Good luck Kappy, but don’t be suprised if you never kick in an NFL game again.

  13. The Packers have not had a reliable punter since Craig Hentrich — and he just retired.

  14. I don’t know what he’s so pissed about. Statistically, he was the worst punter in the league. Why would he expect to get tendured when he is the worst at his position in the entire league! Good luck Kappy, but don’t be suprised if you never kick in an NFL game again.

  15. He has got a point about Ted Thompson being incompetent when it comes to Special Teams. After all TT cut one of the best punters in the league who they were paying next to nothing for. He is now a top performer for the Seahawks.

  16. love it that kapinos acts as if he was some great packer prospect, if I recall we picked him up because we were in dire need of a punter due to the crumbling performance of jon ryan. punters are a dime a dozen especially ones of kappy’s talent level!

  17. If he’s planning on punting in the AFL, then he really deserves to be cut. No one’s been allowed to punt on the 50-yard field since the IFL in 2000.

  18. Let’s go back to the days when the NFL players played multiple positions. No specialty kickers or punters. Then a player who couldnt punt could do something else and not whine about sucking 🙂

  19. In other news, 3 out of 4 of you who said either “Your a punter”, or “You’re a punter” don’t know the difference between a possessive and a contraction. No wonder Florio feels so smug and superior on here with a 75% illiteracy rate amongst his visitors.

  20. I actually totally understand why he’s pissed. The GM before in GB before TT, traded up for BJ Sanders. He wishes he could get some of that love.

    ************
That’s like being a “top performer” for the LA Clippers.

  22. I do miss Ryan.
But Kampinos was 35th out of all punters. Why is he even opening his mouth. We have another guy like this: Darryn Colledge (for outsiders, the 2ND guy that was a turnstyle at LT when Clifton was hurt. The first guy was Allen Barbre. Between the two, they almost put Rodgers in the hospital).
I digress. Colledge and Kampinos are cut from the same cloth; talk big, perform litte. When Jeremy arrived, he was talking like he was a game-changer. He was right, we sucked at punting. I don’t know if he could make most college teams.

  23. Do you seriously think you will get another opportunity in the NFL after that rant? Fool.

  24. I don’t understand who he is blaming for his punting failures. I know football is a team sport but he is a punter. He’s the only one touching the ball.

  25. Ryan had a GREAT leg strengff BUT, I don’t think his directional kicking was as good as it was suppose to be. I could be COMPLETELY wrong on this, but didn’t Hester take a few back when they told Ryan to get it out of bounds.

    Josh Bidwell? Remember him?
