Orton gets first-round tender; Scheffler second round

Brandon Marshall isn’t the only big-name Bronco that could theoretically interested suitors in restricted free agency.

The Denver Post reports the Broncos placed a first-round tender on quarterback Kyle Orton and guard Chris Kuper Wednesday.  They each will make just more than $2.5 million.  Tight end Tony Scheffler got a second-round tender.

We seriously doubt anyone will go after Orton, but crazier things have happened in a quarterback-starved market.  Despite recent comments by Josh McDaniels, we still expect Scheffler to move.

That doesn’t mean a team will give up a second-round pick for him necessarily.  But that could be a starting point for negotiations.  The possible availability of Greg Olsen wouldn’t do the Broncos any favors.

No one will give up a first for Orton, sorry.

I would like to see Buffalo go after Orton, after all I think 2009 should be enough proof that what they have on the roster isn’t better than him.

They dont want anyone to give up a 1st for Orton hence the high tender. They have no backup plan.

Why not? He passed for more yards and had a QB rating 10 points higher than Jay Cutler. And the Bears traded two firsts AND Orton for Cutler.
Oh, wait. The Bears aren’t in the market for a QB anymore.

@jimicos and THAT is why I’m glad you don’t run any NFL team.
But just go and play with your little statistics over at your fantasy football league. I’m sure you’re very good at that.

Uh what did he do in the games B. Marsh wasn’t playing in? Diddly thats what, and Marshall isn’t going to be there next year.
Orton is a average QB, nothing more nothing less, he will never lead the current donkey team to the playoffs, garanteed.

Please someone take Orton and Scheffler. I like Orton but being a Denver fan I just don’t believe this guy is going to lead us to the playoffs, let alone a super bowl….I don’t care what his stats are or what his winning % is.

The bears should trade Cutler for Orton and give the Broncos the rest of there draft picks for the next two years…DOH

If anyone gets Orton, that would give them three first rounders plus a third for Cutler (“way too much”).
On the other hand, that pretty much kills Orton as the franchise QB. Doesn’t that make him the locker room laughter? Have the Broncos been so cheap before?
One side to save 500 grand, on the other hand, 1st plus 3rd tender for Orton would certainly have backed him more in the locker room.

Actually, VIC, I haven’t played fantasy football in years. And I was just trying to get under the skin of Bears fans.
I thought the last line conveyed that message sufficiently.

Your definition of the word “diddly” varies wildly from the norm.
I agree Orton is nothing more than average. But let’s not forget Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl ring. I could definitely see Orton’s Broncos going to the playoffs. It’s not like they went 3-13 last year.

Lets not forget the two picks for TDs he threw against the high powered Chiefs in what was essentially a playoff game there dipshit. If Orton is the answer then how come he is being given a freaking tender offer instead of a long term contract? I would say it is because McDaniels is at least smarter than you!

Again, I posted my original comment TO GET UNDER THE SKIN OF BEARS FANS (if they do exist). But I also like pointing out that Orton did more for his team than Cutler in year 1 after the trade. I predicted he’d pass for more yards than Cutler on one of these threads, and I just so happened to be right.
It doesn’t happen all that often, so I need to draw attention to it when it does.

  16. jimicos says: Mar 3, 2010 10:05 PM

And I wouldn’t think a Bears fan would be crowing about somebody else throwing picks.. Not considering Cutler’s 26 oopsies last year.

  17. KyleOrtonsArm says: Mar 4, 2010 11:02 PM

Kyle isn’t going anywhere. His home is in Denver and after Denver wins the Super Bowl, everyone in Denver will wear neckbeards for fashion.
