Browns don’t tender Brodney Pool

The Cleveland Browns have announced the tenders that will apply to their restricted free agents.

Safety Abram Elam, running back Jerome Harrison, linebacker D’Qwell Jackson, linebacker Matt Roth, limnebacker Jason Trusnik, and fullback Lawrence Vickers each were tendered at the second-round level.

Omitted from the list were tight end Greg Estandia and safety Brodney Pool.

The omission of Estandia and Pool was first pointed out by Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Technically, a restricted free agent who does not receive a tender offer does not become an unrestricted free agent. He’s still a restricted free agent -- he simply has no restrictions.

On one hand it’s a distinction without a difference. On the other hand it means that the final eight teams can freely sign them, since they are not “unrestricted free agents.”
