Browns place second-round tender on Matt Roth

Matt Roth had an interesting 2009, starting the year on the physically unable to perform list, getting waived by the Dolphins after a falling out with the team, and then getting claimed by the Browns and playing very well, starting the final six games of the season and recording four sacks.

The Browns were pleased enough with Roth that they’ve tendered him at the second-round level.

Roth is a 6-foot-4, 275-pound outside linebacker who looked very good in the Browns’ defense late last year and played a significant role in Cleveland’s late-season improvement. It makes sense for Cleveland to want to keep him.

And if another team signs him to an offer sheet and the Browns decline to match it, they’d get a second-round draft pick. Either way, it’s not bad for a guy they picked up for free off waivers.

Of course they were pleased, he came in the last, what 5 games, and was their best linebacker by far.

as a Dolphin fan, I wonder if Bill whiffed on this one, or if there are other issues with Matt that sent him packing???

    Thank you!
I’ve hoping that the Browns kept him and with this I think they will. He was a bright spot for us last year and one of the 2 or 3 players Mangini picked up mid-season that really helped us. I love the constant knocking on Mangini as a talent evaluation person, but then you look at his track record and realize he actually has made some really good calls. Everyone on the “Reavis is the next coming of God” bandwagon remember: Mangini moved in the draft to get him.

Good job Mangini. Or Heckert. Or whoever Florio wants to give credit to this time.

Yeah, we really screwed the pooch on that one. He was one of our best and hardest working LB’s in 2008.

it’s basically been reported, as rumor, that his agent and him were playing down and dirty with a hidden injury while trying to get a bigger contract.
