Cardinals release Antrel Rolle

The Arizona Cardinals have released safety Antrel Rolle.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus pointed out on Twitter that Rolle is free to sign with all 32 teams, and because he was released, the “Final Eight” rule does not apply to him.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals hope to re-sign Rolle as a free agent. If they want him, they’d better be prepared to pay him a significant amount of money, as Rolle reportedly wants $8 million a year.

The Cardinals were widely expected to cut Rolle, as he was due a $4 million roster bonus tomorrow, and had a base salary of $8 million for the 2010 season.

There are too many expendable guys asking for too much money.

the disassembly of the cardinals begins… The only question now is, ‘how soon until Whiz leaves’?
(he just signed an extension, so that will complicate things…)

    YOUR Team Blows!

His agent pointed out that the Final 8 rules do not apply. Only reason to point that out is so Jerry Jones knows to get out his check book. See you in Dallas Mr. Rolle.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him in orange and black stripes this year. He’d be an upgrade over what the bengals currently have at safety. 8 million is a joke though.

The Miami Dolphins have signed S Antrel Rolle.

He may go a whole lot of places, but I’d be really surprised if he gets the kind of jack he’s asking for. He wants Ed Reed, Troy P money and he can’t hold either of their jocks.

Ric is that you? the one guy that knows what you are talking about on this board.

I dont care how much he is. 8mil is perfect price to pay to stop drafting a safety every year in Chicago.

  20. SATAN567 says: Mar 4, 2010 5:08 PM

A lot of teams will be making a call to his agent just after midnight.

  21. Birdbrainsnj says: Mar 4, 2010 5:11 PM

Yeah, all these people actually want this guy? I’d take macho Harris for peanuts over 8 mill for a guy who’s slightly better. Get real people. There will be more talented safeties in the fourth round of this draft.

  22. Midway Monster says: Mar 4, 2010 5:20 PM

Sign Rolle and D Robinson for less than Peppers alone.
Sounds like a winner to me.
Or get all three. We havent had to pay for a first round pick for two years, a third round pick last year or a second round pick this year. Plenty of money to go around…

  23. KingKaine says: Mar 4, 2010 5:22 PM

I can’t believe none of you said the Saints. They let Sharper leave, cause they are not going to pay 35ish 36ish Darren Sharper 7-9 mil a year. However, they will pay Rolle. Who Dat!!

  24. quadya says: Mar 4, 2010 5:24 PM

KC needs a saftey bad…that way they they dont have to draft Barry at #5 and they can go after an OT

  25. RUGGERLAD says: Mar 4, 2010 5:33 PM

Rolle will settle for less $$ in Miami cuz he wants to go there. Plus Dansby will be in Miami.

  26. Rex Grossman says: Mar 4, 2010 5:40 PM

Bears will draft TyRod Jenkins from East Louisiana State in the 6th round instead.

  27. MakingitRain says: Mar 4, 2010 5:57 PM

Dead on: There is a reason some teams always seem to compete and some never do. The only team that could afford Pep are the teams that are already good. The ones tha suck need to much help to throw that much money at one player.

  28. mudbutt says: Mar 4, 2010 6:09 PM

    Green Bay needs a Saftey.

  29. Hung Like Greg Oden says: Mar 4, 2010 6:23 PM

It’s interesting to see how Rolle wants $8 million a year, and Dansby wants $8 million or $10 million a year, and Dockett wants a new deal, probably in that same ballpark.
Was anyone paying attention when the Packers and Saints put up about 200 points on the defense led by these tough guys in the playoffs?
Let Jerry Jones, Danny Snyder and anyone else overpay for these underachievers. If that’s how they play when they are about to enter the open market, how crappy will they be once they have the money in hand?

Cardinals will try to pick up Ryan Clark now.,
