Colledge denies he's mad at Packers

Hours after a report surfaced that Packers guard/tackle Daryn Colledge was “furious” about being tendered by the team, another report said that Colledge is happy in Green Bay and not mad at the Packers at all.

WBAY in Green Bay is reporting that Colledge “vehemently denied” the report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and said it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Colledge started all 16 games for the Packers in 2009, and according to WBAY, Colledge said that if he’s upset about anything, it’s that he didn’t play well enough to earn a big free-agent contract.

Of course, it’s possible that Colledge really is furious, but he realizes that he has little leverage as a restricted free agent and doesn’t think he’ll help his cause by taking his fury public. In any event, Colledge is almost certain to remain a Packer in 2010.

  1. It’s not Colledge’s fault that the Packers didn’t see a need to have a reserve left tackle on their roster, and instead shoved their starting left guard out of position to play that spot when that roster management failure came back to bite them in the ass.
There’s more than a few good left guards in the league who would flounder at left tackle if stuck in that spot at a moment’s notice.

  2. Packers fans are mad at Colledge. Basically this year is time for him to put up or shut up, once and for all.
Show us what you can do, dude.

  3. Colledge is a pretty even-keeled guy and has always been honest about his play. It wouldn’t surprise me if the report was false.

  4. Greg Bedard who wrote the original article is a former Miami Dolphin reporter. That is one reason not to trust his writing. He tries to find/create controversy where none exists.
Another is that he is writing for Milwaukee. It is like having a San Francisco reporter writng about things in Los Angeles. It will always have a negative slant and not a local perspective.
There are differences within any state on how news is covered in other regions.
Bedard’s original writing was in a blog and not as a news story.
You always have to look at the biases of those writing. Even on PFT you sure tell the difference between a Florio written article and a Rosenthal one.

  5. Anything Colledge does is taking it public. The Packers are a public owned team so even if he makes his anger known only to his bosses and because the bosses bosses are the public he will really be taking it to the public. Get it?

Yeah Bob, just like you can tell the differences in posts when someone intelligent writes something and when you, a bathtub fart bubble biter writes something.

  7. People (in general) should be rewarded based on their measured results, not their efforts. If he raises his level of performance, he’ll ultimately get what he deserves. It’s really pretty simple.

  9. Super:
Kind of like a farble, a person who farts in the bath tub, but a garfarble bites the bubbles.
Bob Garfarble has a nice ring to it.

  10. “Colledge” and “fury” just don’t belong in the same sentence unless there’s something like “lack of effort incited the fans'” in between them.
