Colledge is privately "furious" he got second round tender

When Florio posted news Wednesday on restricted free agents for the Packers, we didn’t know yet what level each player was tendered.

Well, we have a better idea now.  And guard/tackle Daryn Colledge isn’t pleased.

Greg. A. Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that Colledge privately is “furious.”  He wanted a first-round tender and said he thought he got a second-round tender.

“If it’s a second round, maybe I have a chance to move,” Colledge said
on the radio Thursday night. “Maybe I could be coming to a city near you.”

Colledge’s attitude won’t sit well with a fan base that was publicly furious with Colledge’s turnstile-like play last season.  (Jared Allen and Antwan Odom loved it.) Colledge is tired of changing positions, but we suspect the team is tired of his excuses.

We’ve got news for Colledge: It’s very unlikely any team will give up a second-round pick for him.  It could be worse, though. He could be a pissed-off ex-punter.

    Two questions:
    1. Who?
    2. Since you’ve posted this useless bit of information doesn’t that mean he’s now “publicly” furious?

  2. JerkStore says: Mar 4, 2010 12:45 PM

Where does Colledge get off with this attitude? He seems like a nice guy, but after a solid ’08 he was terrible in ’09. (Odom ate up Barbe though, not Colledge.) I felt sorry for him that he got thrown to the wolves at LT against the Vikes after not so much as practicing out there all year, but he played most of the year (and most of his career) at LG, so he hasn’t jumped around that much.
I only wish he was as good as he thinks he is.

  3. daPACK says: Mar 4, 2010 12:48 PM

Should have given him a 7th round tender. The guy is lucky to be making over a mil.

  4. JoeSixPack says: Mar 4, 2010 12:48 PM

When these guys say they are “speechless” like Merriman, I wish they actually would be.
Apparently that word doesn’t mean what they think it does.

  5. superbowl says: Mar 4, 2010 12:54 PM

the packers went cheap for this speedbump
maybe he should watch tape of the 51 (NFL HIGH) sacks the packer off. line gave up….

  6. DC_Bengals_Fan says: Mar 4, 2010 12:58 PM

As a Bengals fan, I took delight in watching this guy get abused. Why in the heck does he think he’s worth a first round pick? Dude is a matador out there at tackle.

  7. MN Boise Fan says: Mar 4, 2010 1:00 PM

He may have a point. He was just about as good a LT at Boise State that Ryan Clady was, but for whatever reason, the Packers have bounced him around to multiple positions. Maybe another team would use him in one spot and get the most out of him.

  8. csmith_apd50 says: Mar 4, 2010 1:01 PM

Earth to Darren Colledge-You were the worst and most inconsistant lineman on a bad offensive line, be lucky to get what you’ve got!

  9. Lex Luger says: Mar 4, 2010 1:03 PM

He’s a solid athelete and a decent guard, but not strong enough to play tackle.
He got unfairly single out when he got beat by good players when the rest of the line was just as crappy (allen barbre at RT anyone?)
He’s Clifton’s backup which is part of another problem with having so many starters be backups to other starters. One person goes down and 2-3 people change position, wtf is that shit. Thats why you have to have depth.
Truth is though most of his NFL experience is at LG where he is ok.He’s not the worst tackle ever, but he was drafted early in the second round to play LT tackle and he can’t cut it there.
Hes not worth first round tender, but he’s not a problem like some people think. The offensive line of the packers needs depth and he certainly adds it. He would make a good backup, a most of their current backups are HORRIBLE.
We have 7 NFL quality offensive lineman, and once Tausher and clifton are gone, that number is 5 meaning NO backups at all. And without them, College is our best LT. Him or Lang.
LT College LG Spitz C Wells RG Sitton RT Lang
Think how scary this line looks. Thats why is very important GB goes and gets one of the top 3 or so OL in this draft, and ideally, trade up(even with Lions) to take him.
LT – Okung LG College C Spitz RG Sitton RT Lang
Very young, atheletic, and talanted line there.

  13. JpBirdman says: Mar 4, 2010 1:12 PM

Colledge is terrible. Green Bay should’ve released this worthless guy.

  14. bluestree says: Mar 4, 2010 1:14 PM

Colledge is upset because he feels that being forced to play some games at left tackle (I think four), and right tackle (one) have hurt his development. This doesn’t include moves due to in game injury situations.
Darren; I doubt anyone was going to give up a second rounder for you, and now that you’ve shown a “me first” attitude that’s almost a given. There’s only two people who think you’re worth the first round tender, and you married one of them. Time to get your head out of your ass. You’re a jouneyman. You’ve had plenty of opportunities to show you’re ready to go to the next level and you’ve failed to do so. Be thankful you’re even in the NFL, which stands for “Not For Long” for most guys with your production. You were lucky to land on a rebuilding team that was switching to the zbs, otherwise you’d never have gotten a chance to play at all. Now shut up and go get another tattoo.

  15. GirthyOne says: Mar 4, 2010 1:16 PM

If the Packers had drafted for signed anyone with any ability, he wouldn’t even have been tendered.
What the turd should be “furious” about, is how bad he is. Someone give him a nookie and shut him up.

  16. karpsta says: Mar 4, 2010 1:18 PM

As a fan, I’m furious they did this as well. He sucks. Get rid of him.
The OL is shaping up nicely for next year already. Hope Rodgers is preparing himself for another painful season.
I will say in his defense, this ridiculousness of the Packer scheme where 1 guy gets hurt and 4 guys have to switch positions is umm flawed.

Seeing as it is only Thursday afternoon, I must commend you for reporting the future, and Mr. Colledge for making his future radio comments available to you. You would think with this guys ability to operate in the future that some team would be interested. You also would think that some team would be interested in acquiring your services as you can accurately predict the future.

  18. Jack Factor says: Mar 4, 2010 1:32 PM

    From a pretty low-key Packers fan…
F him! He best shut his slot because every D lineman was shoving subway tokens in it and quickly proceeding through the turnstyle.
Go hang with John Michaels and Tony Mandarich and drink a giant cup of Shut the F&#$ up.

  19. GobiasINC_1 says: Mar 4, 2010 1:33 PM

se18a29, the Packers were 11-5 last year. That is not what I call sucking, you enormous moron.
Once again, someone that posts on these boards that knows nothing about football and sucks at the member of Brett Favre.

  20. 4gbpackers says: Mar 4, 2010 1:36 PM

Needs to improve on field performance and stop with the TV shows/internet stuff. On field is what counts and improvement is needed or he will be a backup lineman. Thinks he grades out better than performance.

  21. Emoney says: Mar 4, 2010 1:37 PM

Colledge isn’t that good. Even at LG, he’s continuously beat. No excuse for this guy.

Wrong. He played over 90+% of his snaps at left guard and was ok in 2008 and terrible at left guard in 2009. Nobody is knocking him for his play at LT since he was a fill in and playing out of position.

Truth is….he was never drafted early by the Packers to play LT. That was NEVER talked about by management. He was drafted and projected from day one to be a guard.

  24. Ruvell100 says: Mar 4, 2010 1:42 PM

@Lex- Wells played well after Spitz went down. He’s not a good guard, but he does well as a center. I think that line looks a lot better like this.
    Okung Spitz Wells Sitton Lang
Colledge and that wife of his have lost their marbles. She wrote an article in the Press Gazette about how Packer blog sites shouldn’t be so harsh to the offensive line. “They are people, too.” My response to her blog was, “If you don’t want to read about how bad your husband sucks, don’t read these threads at all. I’d get the riot act at my job if I consistently underperformed and didn’t improve, and believe it or not, I don’t make $1.4 Million/year.”

  25. Old School says: Mar 4, 2010 1:46 PM

The NFL should expand and make a team composed of me first whiners and complainers like this tatooed wonder. Then when they get beat to a pulp and go winless, maybe they’ll understand what everybody else already did.
It’s fair to say Mr Colledge is not “Packer People”.
    Go Pack!!!

  26. Supersuckers says: Mar 4, 2010 1:51 PM

Colledge made Jared Allen’s season last year.

  27. murray22 says: Mar 4, 2010 2:02 PM

Colledge sucks. He can’t play tackle or guard, but he’s always the first guy on scene to help up a tackled Packer player after the play so that College can be on tv. College is too weak and inconsistent to play guard and doesn’t have the arm length or footwork to play tackle. It would be great if we could get a 4th round pick for him, let alone a 2nd round pick. I don’t see any other team being interested in him.

  28. nerd says: Mar 4, 2010 2:05 PM

We’re set on the right side with Lang And Sitton. We got Wells at Center, with Spitz and Dietrich-Smith to back him up. The question marks are at LG and LT.
Spitz will compete with Colledge at LG. LT is wide open, although Clifton will probably be back. Cliffy’s breaking down.
Colledge got thrown to the wolves at LT for a couple games, without having practiced there all preseason. This got inside his head and he ended up struggling at LG too.
Dude needs to stfu and pull his shit together. Maybe his wife will write an op-ed criticizing the skeptics.

  29. green&bold says: Mar 4, 2010 2:07 PM

The guy gave up 8 sacks at guard. That’s an astonishing feet. Not to mention in all the time he’s been there he’s played a handful of games at tackle and he complains about moving around? The guy is just not that good. He graded out as the worst lineman on a bad line. First round my a$$. I know for a fact the Packers considered not tendering him at all. At least this way they can keep him cheap for depth, or best case scenario, they get some quality guys and cut his ass for nothing.

  30. Johnnyb612 says: Mar 4, 2010 2:07 PM

He’s still screwing the Packers. He is a waste of padding.

  31. rpiotr01 says: Mar 4, 2010 2:24 PM

Out of I believe 61 games started for GB, he started 55 at LG. They asked him to suck it up for 3 games last year at LT and just hold the fort and he turned in three poor performances. He was barely moved around at all. He’s full of excuses and that’s it.

  32. PossibleCabbage says: Mar 4, 2010 2:30 PM

He’s a maddeningly inconsistent player. Coming off of 2008, there were serious reasons to think he was going to take the next step and become a very solid LG. Unfortunately, he took the next step two times… backwards. So while in 2008, he would have some very good games, and some very bad games… in 2009 all he could manage is a coupld of good plays punctuated with a bad play or two to cap it off. But when your offensive lineman is giving up bad plays on like 1/4 of plays, he’s simply playing badly no matter how well he does the remaining 3/4 of the time.
I think part of the reason he was pissed is that the Packers were working on an extension with him before the 2009 season, and it dragged on into the season where Daryn’s performance on the field reduced his value significantly.

That makes sense. Okung is a consensus Top 5 pick and the top O lineman available, only Ruvell would be dumb enough to have him going to GB at 23.

  34. TheBaySay says: Mar 4, 2010 3:43 PM

Talks a great game, and… that’s as far as it goes.

  35. Gravy says: Mar 4, 2010 4:46 PM

Basically the Packer O played with 10 guys last year. A dummy at LG would have played better than Colledge. Colledge is an idiot who somehow skipped the Wonderlic. His old lady deserves him.

  36. JimmySmith says: Mar 4, 2010 5:05 PM

I swear, this guy belongs on the Vikings, he talks a big game and then lays an egg.

  37. Fan of Football says: Mar 4, 2010 5:23 PM

No surprise there. Ted Thompson is notorious for not taking care of his veterans.

  38. FootballOnly says: Mar 4, 2010 6:36 PM

To tender Coolidge at a 2nd rounder says more about the Packer mgmt and coaches evaulations of players talents…….I doubt there is a team that would give up a 4th rounder for him. Doesn’t look good for the Pack’s offensive line again next year if they value collidge that much.

  39. Ruvell100 says: Mar 4, 2010 7:51 PM

Not the point again, Majik. I was referring to Lex’s post. I think you knew that, but you are such an angry, pathetic piece of shit you had to insult my intelligence again. Had nothing to do with Okung, Williams, Bulaga (who they probably would take at 23) or any other top flight tackle. Here is a better example for you.
1st rounder or Clifton if not declining
    Spitz
    Wells
    Sitton
    Lang
    That okay with you?

  41. packers4life says: Mar 4, 2010 8:00 PM
