Panthers cut Damione Lewis

Veteran defensive tackle Damione Lewis, the first of three first-round picks by the Rams in 2001, has been cut by the Panthers, a league source tells us.

Lewis signed with the Panthers as an unrestricted free agent in 2006.  He started all 16 games in 2009 for the first time in his career.

Signed through 2014, Lewis was due to earn $755,000 this season.

His biggest impact came in Week One, when he crossed the goal line and dove on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, breaking at least one rib.  Inexplicably, Lewis was not fined.

I always liked D Lew.. I think he’s been a good player for the Panthers.

Good thing he didn’t breakTom Brady’s ribs, otherwise there’d be a rule in place by now protecting hitting the Quarterback in his midsection at all.
But it was just Donovan McNabb! So break away, no fine for you.

Well this is just wrong on so many levels. He was a good under tackle and a bargain to boot! So much for loyalty. I am sure he will catch on somewhere quickly. Good luck Damione.

I hated this guy. He sucked miserably on the Rams and he did okay on the Panthers. Also, in the same boat, I hate Ryan Pickett for the same reason.

McNabb was on the ground in the end zone. It was a very late dirty hit. But thats how Fox’s teams allways play

Every team hits runners late and McNabb was a runner (and yes, they hit them late in the end zone).
If McNabb wasn’t as frail as my grandfather he would have been fine.
