Last year, former Duke basketball player Greg Paulus made a stir when he worked out for the Green Bay Packers.

The news helped propel Paulus to Syracuse for one season of football. Now, he’s ready to give the pro game a try.

Of course, the folks who run the Scouting Combine had a different viewpoint, not inviting him to an event at which many of the invited quarterbacks opted not to work out.

So Paulus will instead show scouts what he can do today, at a Pro Day workout.

You dream of these things,” Paulus told the Associated Press. “To have this opportunity, I wanted to take advantage of it. In the back of my mind this was definitely something I wanted. Hopefully, we’re going to get some positive feedback. I’ll do the best I can.”

For his only season in college football, Paulus completed 193 of 285 passes for 2,025 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He averaged 7.11 yards per attempt.

Applying the NFL passer rating formula to these numbers, that’s an 86.9. That said, Paulus’ good-not-great showing translated to four wins, eight losses, and one benching.

A dozen or so teams are expected to attend the Syracuse Pro Day workout, and it remains to be seen whether any of them -- or any other NFL team -- ends up being interested in the college basketball player turned college football player turned hopeful pro football player.
