Peppers-to-Redskins rumors go to full boil

Less than two hours until the start of free agency, rumors are flying that the Washington Redskins will soon be signing defensive end Julius Peppers.

The thinking had been that, if the Redskins decide they want Peppers, they’ll get Peppers.  It just wasn’t clear whether the Redskins want Peppers.

Our pal Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston has reported, via Twitter, that the Redskins will come “charging hard” after Peppers and that he expects a deal to be done by tomorrow.  Last year, Zierlein reported that the Redskins would land defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth days before it happened.

And we’re hearing that the situation has progressed well beyond the Redskins “charging hard.”  We’re hearing it’s essentially done — and that barring an unexpected development the only question is whether the deal will be announced before or after the sun rises in D.C.

That’s bad news for the Bears, who had planned to make a strong push for Peppers.

As a Cowboys fan, this makes me VERY happy. Peppers has no idea how to play OLB in a 3-4 AND Flozell has pwnd Peppers everytime they’ve met. Wohoo!!

Players are stupid for going there as well.

Boo. Redskins suck. They’re always tampering. They need to be fined and all their draft picks removed. Freaking homos do this every off-season and never get caught. Coincidence or are they in cahoots with President Obama and are using their Washington D.C. influence to try to buy a championship? I SMELL A CONSPIRACY WITH THE WHITE HOUSE.
I’m just kidding. I’m just bored..

  11. Swedish Mafia says: Mar 4, 2010 10:30 PM

that’s good news for Bears fans, however, as we need to get more than just a pass rusher. I would like to see Kampman and Rolle (and maybe one or two otheres) for what we would have spent on Peppers.

  12. doric44 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:30 PM

i guess after 10 years of failure doing the exact same thing overpaying for overrated free agents ….. Snyder is back at it again i guess with enough zero’s beside your name you can continue to screw the redskins fans over and over with this crap.
have fun going 5-11 again next season and the next 10 years Washington !

  13. erstwhiledoc says: Mar 4, 2010 10:34 PM

    Mike,
Are you getting any responses from the league office at all about these multiple incidents that, if true, would constitute flagrant tampering violations?

  14. PossibleCabbage says: Mar 4, 2010 10:34 PM

I feel kinda bad for Jeremy Jarmon. He loses his eligibility his senior year because he took a tainted supplement, and he ends up on the defensive line for the Redskins, a team that seems hell-bent on signing every prominent defensive lineman that comes along.

  15. Birdbrainsnj says: Mar 4, 2010 10:36 PM

Speaking for Skins fans, we don’t want the guy but if he ends up in DC, that’s the way it goes. For the brokeback fan who’s happy and thinks the addition of Peppers to an already top 10 defense doesn’t matter…that’s why you’re a DallASS fan. I know you can’t help it little fella :)

  18. okay says: Mar 4, 2010 10:40 PM

    @nfcbeast
I absolutely agree. They keep addressing positions that don’t need to be addressed. Now if they sure up the line then fine have at it but I’ve seen this movie before.

  19. whodey30 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:40 PM

the bears are better off getting kampan even though his injuries come into question. i believe once peppers gets his money he wont give all of his ability. the skins are stupid switching to a 3-4 since they spent over a 100 million for haynesworth and he is a 4-3 tackle. they will regret the switch reguardless of peppers signing.

  20. zllabnkcoc says: Mar 4, 2010 10:41 PM

Any early Super Bowl picks, Florio?
‘Bert and Peppers could seriously effective on the same line, too bad there’s no one on the other line. And no one to block for.

  21. MasterShake says: Mar 4, 2010 10:41 PM

This doesn’t help the teams in the west. They have to wait three more hours to start the bidding.

    Hey Bill-
Did you watch the NFC game where your girls played the vikes? Flozell got his ass handed to him the entire time. What makes you think that all of a sudden he is going to be alight? You are another blinded cowgurl fan. Move out of DC and down to texas you loser.

  25. FumbleNuts says: Mar 4, 2010 10:45 PM

Under Mike Shanahan, and with Jim Haslett as DC this has the “potential” to be a VERY dangerous defense.

Hey Bill in DC…. have you ever been to Dallas.. just wondering man. Anyways, do you really think Flozell Adams is going to play another year? He’s done man. Orakpo will demolish him.
As for Peppers he will play on the LOLB most likely and go against right tackles. Good luck Colombo. ;)

How in the hell do you know if Peppers would play OLB.

  30. Adam_Bears_Fan says: Mar 4, 2010 10:49 PM

I hope Snyder runs this team into the ground for so much longer that he eventually gives up, sells the team to LA interests where they move, and change that frigging racist mascot.

  31. rbiggs2525 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:49 PM

I love how all these fans are like, i want Peppers to the Giants, I want Peppers on the Bears. Soon as they hear Redskins are going to get him the get bitter. Wait till yall see this contract Danny pulls out of his ass. I bet he gets 30 mil in the uncapped year. Yes one player is not worth 30 mil in one year. But if it saves you to only paying him 8-10 mil a season after that in capped years get it done. Keep hating its not like we have not had enough of you. As a skins Fan i want to build the line through the draft with Cornerstones. people who will be here for 10 years. So sign all the luxury players you can and draft o line

Don’t you guys say this every year?

  33. rbiggs2525 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:56 PM

If your Julius Peppers and you have the oppurtunity to play next to Big AL. Someone who has made Andre Carter and Kyle Vanden Bosch have double digit sacks years. I cant believe people did not see this coming. Who woukd you rather play next to. Come on.

  34. Mike_in_Texas says: Mar 4, 2010 10:57 PM

so who gets double teamed? Peppers or Haynesworth ? Oops I forgot about Orakpo = Sack.

  35. mwcarolina says: Mar 4, 2010 10:57 PM

uhgg…….as a Redskin fan who lives in the Carolinas, please don’t sign this guy!!!! Karlos Dansby yes, Antrel Rolle, yes, but NOT Peppers!

  36. genericusername021 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:59 PM

Why would you DC fans not want the guy? Hell no cap, if he sucks it’s not like it’s going to hold the team back. Just let him serve refreshments to the rest of the team, and go buy someone else next year. Overpaying in a non cap season isn’t a bad thing to anyone buy Snyder. Jeez fellas acting like it’s your money he’s wasting. When he can waste all he wants whats the problem?

  37. boysroll says: Mar 4, 2010 11:00 PM

this org will never learn that overpaying gives the player no incentive to produce. Talk about one of the biggest dysfunctional orgs in the league. I think the raiders are in better shape than this joke of an org….LMAO.
Plus they have so many disgruntly players on that team right now who are bitter with management and how they run the team. The formula translates into failure year after year and last place in the NFC east suckas.

  40. Booyah says: Mar 4, 2010 11:05 PM

definitely don’t want Peppers’ half-assin’ his way through the short leash year in Chicago next year. Please somebody overbid… Snyder?

  41. Shawn says: Mar 4, 2010 11:07 PM

I think this is an amazing move by the Redskins. Just think to yourself why would they want to beef up the defense? Remember the Steelers of superbowl 40 and 43, horrible offense and top rated defense and guess what? They won both superbowls. Think what your saying before you actually speak.

  42. Booyah says: Mar 4, 2010 11:18 PM

Shawn, you gotta see if Peppers really wants to play in your city after he grabs the cash. He’s had some complaints about his motivation in past years, so there’s always that to worry about.

  43. msnyder275 says: Mar 4, 2010 11:20 PM

Don’t blame Dan Snyder, blame Jay Cutler. He’s the criminal in this deal. If he hadn’t come to the Bears, they would have signed Peppers two weeks ago and avoided any tampering charge.
    Cutler sucks.

  44. WildBill1952 says: Mar 4, 2010 11:26 PM

They said Dan Snyder had turned the reins over to football people. They must have drunk the kool-aid before they took the reins. Until the Skins get an offensive line it doesn’t matter how many people they stack up on defense. The team that scores the most points still wins.

  45. danielcp0303 says: Mar 4, 2010 11:28 PM

People on here saying Adams is done? Did you see what he did to Peppers, Fat Albert and Orakbo? Come on now, he’s not finished yet.

I love all the haters that have shitty teams with NO and i say NO superbowl trophys. Yeah Snyder may have knee jerk reactions in the past but he has learned form Gibbs and is now implimenting it as we speak. If YOU have a problem with a owner spending all his money that he has earned on a player that he or his GM/Coach wants stop hating because your team can afford to spend money in a poverity stricken area MOVE MOVE MOVE and stop hating for your owners empty pocket because you dont spend $$ at the games if you spent $$ at a game you could afford a hainsworth, peppers or whoever you want. Oh one more thing Booyah unless the Yankees start playing football then no owner can out bid Snyder his Pockets are the deepest in the NFL just like another former Onwer the late Great Jack Kent Cooke. Hail to the Redskins spend away.

  51. cashmoney28 says: Mar 4, 2010 11:56 PM

Wait… Shawn are you really comparing these Redskins to the Steelers? How about getting a QB that can perform in big games. How about a RB with some heart and not on his last legs? Speaking of aging players, its about time to get a real TE and not a converted FB. Oh and that offensive line is a nightmare. Did I mention that your WR’s are average at best? The Redskins have finished last in the division almost 8 out the last 10 years for a reason. Dan Snyder is an egg head who needs to hire a GM and back off.

  52. IncognitoJRP25 says: Mar 5, 2010 4:53 AM

I just would like to say that it’s funny how something about the redskins brings on all this cowboy talk because of one salty D.C. cowboy fan . First off Cowboys have five superbowls and Jerry Jones pockets are just as deep as Snyder’s . Lets see snyder buy the biggest HD tv in the world. He should learn from Jerry that u cant buy a superbowl. Otherwise it would have happened last year . Only thing standing in Cowboys way was Vikes. Boys beat Saints and destroyed there perfect record with ease. Vikes lose to saints. Vikings have a defense that can swallow teams whole. I was raised in texas for twelve years now i have lived in minnesota for thirteen . Still a cowboys fan that eats nothing but crap from salty vikes fans. Yet i have utmost respect for both organizations. The redskins on the other hand need to beef up their organization just to make that division more exciting . They are not meant to suck ass like they did last year. More than ever u need to protect your quarterback . He ran around like ROMO did in the vikings game all season long. If Snyder has to buy Lucifer to come play football to strengthen there game and actually give teams a challenge then i am all for it . Becuase it was embarassing to watch the skins last year. straight talk ..

  53. capetide says: Mar 5, 2010 7:16 AM

Funny…if it was the Patriots who were suspeted of tampering, you’d be leading the pack for a full scale investigation with fines, firings, and loss of draft picks.
