Redskins will release Randle El

Antwaan Randle El’s days with the Washington Redskins appear to be over.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Redskins will release Randle El today.

In 2009, Randle El lost his spot in the starting lineup, although he did play enough on offense to accumulate 50 catches for 530 yards. Randle El was a major disappointment returning punts, to the point that Joe Theismann opined that even he could do a better job.

The 30-year-old Randle El, who spent four seasons in Washington, will now be an unrestricted free agent.

I would put my money on him ending up in Baltimore. You heard it here first.

    Antwaan is a O.K WR
    A Great P.R
    And a even better person
Would love to see Randle El back in Pittsburgh
(Remember what I told you last year Antwaan, when you met me, my wife and my family)
    Think about it.

  5. THE OPINION GUY says: Mar 4, 2010 4:46 PM

He did the usual Pass Danny Boy and Redskins Park Collect $$$$$ then ride off into the sunset.

  6. DanSnyder says: Mar 4, 2010 4:47 PM

Randle El is a great and funny guy and I’m going to miss his personality but I think this is a good decision.

  7. Cleg says: Mar 4, 2010 4:47 PM

By ARE – may you take your three yards and a cloud of dust return skills somewhere else.

  8. opionatEd says: Mar 4, 2010 4:47 PM

I say the Jets jump on this guy that is if they don’t go Steal Boldin with a 3rd round pick.

  10. WarrenMoonGOAT says: Mar 4, 2010 4:53 PM

  11. FumbleNuts says: Mar 4, 2010 4:55 PM

He would be a good fit with the Miami Dolphins.

  12. Bob Nelson says: Mar 4, 2010 4:57 PM

Another player that cashed in on the “Redskin retirement plan.”
He got some Snyder big bucks while he could and now he is an NFL vagabond without a team and no fanbase that likes him.

    Sooooooooo Long you BUM!

  14. DatSkinzDude21 says: Mar 4, 2010 4:58 PM

    Thank you Jesus…
I love Randle El as a person and a competitor but his production did not amount to the money we paid as a #2 WR. He was better suited as a slot guy but we were never able to draft and trade for a #1 WR to help the passing game.

    Dallas would be perfect.

  16. dead money says: Mar 4, 2010 5:05 PM

Spineless returner. Spineless Receiver. Camera Whore. Wannabe Cedric the Entertainer. Take your catch and duck show down the road. Awful free agent pickup gone wrong.

  17. OranjelloJones says: Mar 4, 2010 5:10 PM

Really nice guy and from all accounts a hell of a teammate but it was time. He just didn’t produce.

  18. surefooted says: Mar 4, 2010 5:13 PM

lol Watch Philadelphia sign him. hahahahahaha

  19. Tony Alexander says: Mar 4, 2010 5:21 PM

He may be a nice guy – but when the train left Pittsburgh with him on it, all that talent stayed behind…

  20. Start Colt Brennan says: Mar 4, 2010 5:22 PM

All of you that are saying Randle El is a great KR or PR are HIGH…he has sucked since the day he walked into Ashburn. If 5 yards and a cloud of dust on a punt return is worth 30 million then sign me up

  21. Ryan says: Mar 4, 2010 5:24 PM

a great punt returner? Watch a ball game or two before you comment on here.

“wonder if the skin s trade for the denver WR??”
I don’t think they will since that have the #4 overall pick. Unless they trade for another 1st rounder or bargain with the Broncos for a cheaper price. But being a Bronco fan living in Denver, I think they would rather keep Marshall rather than give him up for less than a 1st rd pick.

  23. steeltownpride says: Mar 4, 2010 5:41 PM

Well Redskins thats what you get for overpaying for a third string wide reciever . The day he left Pittsburgh we all seen the writing . Dont feel bad though you wasnt the first to overpay for players let go by the Steelers .
The list is long thats for sure . He wont comeback to the Steelers either . Unless he wants to be a 4th wr to finish his career . Last season butterfingers Washington was signed by Tennessee for big cheese . They will see in a few more years how he will turn out . The last Steeler reciever to leave that was worth it was Burress . Now gimpy is doing 2 years for stupidity .
    Who’s next ?

  24. florioSweatsJETS says: Mar 4, 2010 5:44 PM

    take JC with u

  25. wyoff says: Mar 4, 2010 5:58 PM

I can’t believe that Randle El is only 30. That’s middle aged for recievers. Maybe he’ll find his way back to the Steelers.

  26. phillyeagleschamps says: Mar 4, 2010 6:16 PM

Philly doesnt want him, he is Raider bound.

  27. jimmySee says: Mar 4, 2010 6:19 PM

Another tremendous Indiana QB (like Drew Brees) who gave the Big 10 fits during his college days.
He’s a great athelete and I wish him well.

  28. BigBlueDeadHead says: Mar 4, 2010 6:19 PM

Randle El stinks. I can’t believe everyone here is basically thinking he’ll be a good additional somewhere. I hope he goes to Dallas!

  29. DCskinsFan says: Mar 4, 2010 6:20 PM

Im so happy he is gone. The skins are bad enough as it is. But watching him attempt to return punts made me sick.

  30. DeeDubb says: Mar 4, 2010 6:22 PM

This was a looooong time coming. ARE is a nice guy but it takes more than that to earn a roster spot. It’s easy to sour on the guy especially after years of his ineffective punt returning but he could be a decent No. 3 guy for a more established offense.
Finally, someone new returning punts in 2010!!!

  31. Cubano says: Mar 4, 2010 6:27 PM

At least “jzimmpa” is not a stalker or anything!

  32. HAIL21 says: Mar 4, 2010 6:56 PM

Thanks for nothing EL! You will always be the Skins all time punt return leader in “sideline to sideline” yardage!

  33. pghsteve says: Mar 4, 2010 7:05 PM

66% of his receptions last year were for first downs, 64% in 2008, and 75% in 2007. Not sure how this stacks up with other receivers with 50 to 60 receptions, but it is not too shabby.
ARE has more Super Bowl TD passes than such ‘elite’ QBs as Phillip Rivers, Tony Romo, Aaron Rogers and Carson Palmer. Also, more Super Bowl receptions than Chad 85.
Not exactly a hall of famer, but a good guy to have on your team if teamwork is your means to success.

  34. Whiskeytangofoxtrot says: Mar 4, 2010 7:15 PM

I would love to see Theismann return punts. He’d have to get his hair messed up and might possibly break a leg again, just like his one memorable play from a career that nobody thinks as much of as himself.

  35. TheWizard says: Mar 4, 2010 8:45 PM

Theismann not only returned punts, dumbass, he also won a Super Bowl.
Just becasue it’s fashionable for the herd to bash him these days doesn’t diminish his accomplishments.
And maybe getting your own leg broke might make it a little less humorous for you. Be careful.
As far as Randle El, I didn’t realize he was still in the league…………
