Pete Carroll began his public judgment on the Holmgren/Mora era leftovers Thursday, offering four original round restricted free agent tenders to assorted Seahawks.
Defensive end Darryl Tapp and center Chris Spencer are the biggest names on the list. Guard Rob Sims and wideout Ben Obomanu were also offered one-year deals.
It’s unlikely any team will give up the corresponding pick for Spencer (first round) or Tapp (second round), but the tenders could also be a starting point for trade negotiations.
Spencer, like O.J. Atogwe, has another few steps in the process. This tender is for $1.226 million, but the Seahawks will have to choose by June 1 whether to release Spencer or offer him 110% of his 2009 salary, which would be $2.42 million.
These “right of first refusal” tenders essentially seem to buy time for teams.
