Troy Smith is very available

T. Smith.jpgRavens quarterback Troy Smith has made no secret that he wants out of Baltimore.  He’s got his chance.

Smith’s agent Ralph Cindrich tweeted that Smith was tendered at the original round level; the Ravens will only get a fifth-round pick if he signs an offer sheet and goes elsewhere.

Quarterback John Beck was also tendered, so the Ravens have a backup in place if Smith leaves.  The decision by Baltimore appears to be inviting a possible trade.

The question now becomes whether there is any market for Smith.

Cleveland Seattle San Francisco Arizona all could use him as a 2nd or 3rd QB….a very minor upgrade.

Cue the Ohio St. fans who want my Browns to get him.
    Hell to the no.

The Browns should sign him he could pass to…………………………….who plays WR for the Brownies?

  5. jkr says: Mar 4, 2010 8:37 PM

I would take troy smith in a heart beat on my raiders he can’t be any worse than jafatass plus in his limited time he has shown he can play.By the way the ravens should have never drafted Flacco he is horse shit, he’s the same old type of qb they have always had in Bmor a don’t screw it up guy.

  6. nfcbeast says: Mar 4, 2010 8:38 PM

Rams could also use him, so obvious i didnt bother to type it at first.

Back home to C-town? We’re not getting Campbell, Philly isn’t shopping McNabb and probably won’t give up Kolb, and I doubt Minnesota gives up Jackson. If the big idea is to bring in someone who’s been in the league the pickings are thin. Smith certainly isn’t a guaranteed quality starter but I think he’s an intriguing option for what we give up, especially considering we already have an extra 5th round pick.

    Washington redskins interested ?

    Go Browns!

Funny how a few years ago everyone thought the fast, running quarterback (AKA black quarterbacks) were the future of the NFL.

    see ya jason campbell

Any team interested in a Kordell Stewart (without the tears) type talent will be looking to acquire Smith.
Also, by “any team” I mean any team in the UFL.

Troy can play – I’d like to see the Rams give him a shot.

  14. Larry David says: Mar 4, 2010 9:03 PM

Troy Smith is gonna be a stud if he ever gets to take over a team. Too bad Bmore is gonna be stuck with overrated Flacco when Smith is balling elswhere.

He’s a stiff, beat out by a rookie, the Browns don’t need him at all!

  16. owumd says: Mar 4, 2010 9:07 PM

This could be fun. Ravens fans on talk radio have been presuming his value at a second round pick. Let’s see if anyone decides to jump on a guy who has started two games since the time he was drafted in the fifth round.

  17. RaiderRedleg says: Mar 4, 2010 9:12 PM

Hue Jackson (Raiders new offensive coordinator) was around him last year…He certainly has as much upside potential as Charlie Frye does…I could see the Raiders taking a flyer on him.

  18. Rick says: Mar 4, 2010 9:25 PM

He couldn’t pass Flacco on the depth chart and Flacco is a slighty above average QB. Smith must be a dud

  19. jtm1023 says: Mar 4, 2010 9:27 PM

Troy is going to Buffalo. Fifth round pick? Who could they draft at 5 that would be worth anything anyways. Sign Troy Smith Bills!!!

    trimitdan:
He didn’t get beaten out by a rookie. Troy would have been the Ravens’ starter in 2008 if he hadn’t gotten sick. I think he could have showed his talent then – it was an unfortunate situation for him that made Flacco the starter, and after that there was no going back. Considering the limited playing time he’s gotten, I think he’s got something to offer to a team. I’d be excited if the Rams took a chance on him.

  21. ppdoc13 says: Mar 4, 2010 9:33 PM

@jkr – you are an idiot. All Flacco has done is win games and that includes playoff games. His stats are better than Matt Ryan who was the #3 pick in the same draft. He has an arm like a cannon and he is held up by his lack of receivers.
As far as Troy Smith is concerned. Bye Bye. The guy is a locker room cancer. He asked for a trade at the end of the season during a playoff run and then denied that he asked for the trade. The insiders say that the majority of the team thinks he is an a$$hole.
Which means of course that he would be a perfect person to be the next QB of the Browns.
As far as his skills…. He has a nice arm but is very inaccurate. Throws a nice long ball but has no good touch. Reads defenses poorly. But the worst part is that he thinks he is a hell of a lot better than he really is. He’s still pissed off that he wasn’t drafted in the first round.
It is very telling that he only got a 5th round tender. If the Ravens brass thought he was so important he would have been tendered higher. It will be very interesting to see if any team is willing to give up a 5th round pick for a former Heisman winner who has shown nothing in the pros but thinks he belongs in the HOF. Other than that, he is just a great guy…..

Troy Smith was not “beat out” by Flacco. He had a severe case of Tonsillitis and lost 20 lbs. from it and was in no shape to even compete.
Whether you think he can play or not, he was not beat out.

It’s a toss-up between that guy and a guy who has started eight games since being taken in the first round of the same draft.

  24. zangy says: Mar 4, 2010 9:40 PM

He wasn’t so much beat out by a rookie as he had the starting job and got horrendously ill, lost fifteen pounds, and was never given another opportunity. I think he could probably be a quality starter somwhere. I think he would be an upgrade for the Rams or Panthers.

  25. C. Burgbacher says: Mar 4, 2010 9:44 PM

I hope my Buckeye Troy gets out of Baltimore. He would have been the Ravens starter before Flacco took over had he not gotten sick. He deserves a chance.
    Cmon teams with bad QBs…..

  26. Acrimonious1 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:24 PM

Smith was set to start Flacco’s rookie year but got real sick and Flacco was forced to start and the rest is history.

  27. bh103 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:33 PM

What’s the big deal about a 3rd QB?

  28. AutumnWind999 says: Mar 4, 2010 10:37 PM

Just bring him to Oakland, baby.

  29. zllabnkcoc says: Mar 4, 2010 10:45 PM

I love this guy. As a chiefs fan, i would rather see him under centre than Matt Ass-hole next season.

troy didn’t get beat out by a rookie.
troy got beat out by tonsillitis.
but that of course was after he got beat out by kyle boller.
good luck to ya if anyone sniffs ya troy.
i’m sure the ravens are real scared, 5th round tender and all. straight shook.

  31. ravensos says: Mar 4, 2010 10:51 PM

yes, troy got sick and that allowed flacco to pass him on the depth chart.. but lets not forget Kyle was still no #1 going into the season and was bumped because of a shoulder injury… so yes flacco got lucky going from 3 to 1, but troy still wasnt beating out kyle.

Nobody was going to beat out Kyle, not even John Unitas. Not while the Big Ego was in charge.
I’m glad to see Troy getting a chance to play. He would be an upgrade at St. Louis, Cleveland, San Fransico, Buffalo, Carolina, Washington, Oakland and Jacksonville.
    GO STEELERS!

Cleveland NEEDS Troy. The fan base has lost their hope in the boy from Notre Dame. Was it not Smith that beat Brady out of the Heisman? BringTroyHome dot com! ’nuff said!

  34. Patch says: Mar 5, 2010 9:50 AM

    The guy can’t stay healthy.
You know if the Raiders don’t call, with Hue Jackson’s history with him, he just doesn’t have it.
