Its tough to play defense when your offense turns the ball over two times on the first two plays in FG range for them, spotting the cards 17 points is a little deflating but no teams EVER have bad games everyones the 72 dolphins out there.
Packers needed Clifton, due to the signings, I had figured they would bring back Tausch or Clifton. They will draft a OT with the 1st or 2nd pick and probably secondary with the other. TT knows what he is doing believe it or not

Dude Jared Allen is one of the most overrated players in the league right now. He is dominant when he is going up against a bad LT but when he goes up against a better one, he gets completly shut down. It is kind of obvious when half of his sacks this past season came against two backup LTs.

It’s either re-sign Clifton or trust the most important position on your line to a rookie. I think I would take Clifton especially considering that there isn’t anyone currently there that has shown the ability to step into that position and take it over.
I would still expect them to address left tackle in the draft so that they can get someone in for depth and hopefully groom to take over eventually.
Hopefully they re-sign Taucher as well. The O-Line really was solidified when Cliffy and Tauch were both on the field last year.

So Clifton won the stare-down with TT by pulling the “Redskins visit” card, big deal. Outsmarting TT is about as hard as taking a crap the morning after eating fried cheese curds.
If Clifton stays healthy, given the going rate for starting LTs, $7.5M guaranteed is a fair price. However, we all know he won’t stay healthy. TT will probably look to the 3rd or 4th round for another average young LT to add to the present group of average O-linemen. Looks like TT’s lack of planning on the O-line will force Rodgers to pay the price for yet another season. He’ll apparently get to know the names Allen, Peppers and Vanden Bosch pretty well next season.

When I read the article it clearly stated that TT did not hire Ari, the executive committee did. Christl (a long time Packer commentator who has over a number of decades failed to distinguish himself in any way) went on to say the involvment of the EC historically was a bad thing for team decision making. Of all the meatballs that post here, you’re the only one I’ve ever seen post a link to an article that contradicted his point. Who do you think you are, Karl Rove?
Perhaps it was the old gunslinger himself offered the best advice for someone like you to take as a new direction in life…….why don’t you take two weeks off then quit.

Holy crap, I did not realize PFT let “No Talent Ass Clowns” post on this site. How are the packers “lucky there will not be a salary cap for a few years” for giving a guy a 3 year deal with only 7.5 mil locked up in year one?
The packers had 5 mil on the table the whole time and when the Redskins came calling, Clifton let the packers match. This is really a 1 year deal for 7.5 with a team option for year 2 and 3. Consider Clifton was the best LT on the market and the packers had no one else as a must start, I heardly think TT “blinked”

Neither of these guys were “released.” They were free agents which means the packer had no control on were they went.
and what part of the Packers were up against the salary cap do you not understand. Because of horrible contract during the sherman era, the packers had no chance of signing either of these guys regardless of whether they got hurt the next day or had 10 all pro seasons for some other team.

If Clifton had left, Aaron Rodgers should then have learned to throw left-handed so he could watch Peppers and Jared Allen come storming at him before they crushed him.
Anyone who thinks this is a silly deal is silly themselves. It’s really a one-year 7+mill deal guaranteed, and if they draft a tackle, they can put his replacement in next year, if there is a next year.

Clifton profits from the uncapped year.
He makes about what he was making under his old contract.
This is a one year contract that can be expanded to 3. It is a stopgap measure until the long term solution is found.
Obviously there are several ignorant and foolish uninformed people commenting on things they know nothing about.

The more a guy really thinks about it, the more he comes to the conclusion that TT appears to have no clue about what he’s doing.
But, to his credit, he did at least sign a guy that is pretty solid in pass protection. The thing that bothers me, though, is the fact that TT’s placed himself into this position by nickel-n-diming the O-line for the last several years.
But, TT will remain a god to the Packers’ faithful because no matter what he does or doesn’t do, he never loses. If he lets somebody walk, well, they obviously weren’t worth it. If he panics and bets the farm – because the positions he placed himself into, then he’s made the most of a “bad” situation. It’s classic insanity.

Umm, Rivera played 2 more years, and Wahle 4, including a Pro Bowl season. Freak injuries derailed both of their careers early. It’s hard to say if those injuries happen if they are somewhere else, but they both clearly had a lot left in the tank when released.

Clifton wouldn’t pass the physical for 30 nfl teams…and would be a backup at best but yet the packers give him the big bucks……talk about being hard up for a LT. Sure hope A Rodgers works on his scrambling abilities in the off season or takes out a hefty insurance policy.

7.5 mil for the best free agent LT. Give TT some credit. If I would have bet the wife if TT would have done anything in the first week of free agency much less the first 24 hours I would be on the bottom for a month. Considering TT was working against the Redskins and their bottomless pockets, I would say TT did all right.
