Rams finalize deal for A.J. Feeley

Marc Bulger visited the Rams facility Thursday.  After Friday’s two-year deal with A.J. Feeley, first reported by Aaron Wilson, it’s fair to wonder if Bulger will ever be back again.

The deal is for $6 million according to Adam Schefter.  It’s a solid contract for a guy that has started two games since 2004.  It’s a contract that indicates Feeley is a solid backup, with a chance to possibly get playing time.

Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur coached Feeley in Philadelphia.  A lot of Eagles quarterbacks have been tied to the Rams, but it’s an ex-Eagle that has landed in St. Louis first.

Feeley gives the Rams options.  They can still add another veteran and they are almost certain to add a rookie quarterback somewhere in the draft.   It’s hard to imagine Bulger fitting into the group.

  1. Stop posting these irrelevant stories just so the Rapistberger post will be off the front page…

Yeah, a lot of Eagles quarterbacks have been tied to the Eagles.
    Brilliant statement there Einstein.

  3. Again, I think this speaks volumes that come the first pick of the 2010 NFL draft will be a defensive lineman.

  4. We’ve got 2 more QB’s for ya! Let’s make a deal!

What!? Don’t listen to him. You can have your pick of the litter. Would you like 1, 2 or 3 QB’s?

  5. Wow $6M for a journeyman back up quarterback, that failed in his only attempt as a starter in Miami. A. J. Feeley might just be the most over-valued QB in NFL history, Miami traded a 2nd round pick for the guy and now he gets $3M per year to presumably fill the back-up role in St. Louis . . . simply amazing.

  6. In keeping with the times, the Rams added a “Big Ben” clause to Feeley’s contract, which stipulates that he cannot rape anyone he wants to, without a substantial fine and possible one-game suspension.

  7. AJ’s a total professional and a great guy. Not a huge move, but the Rams shouldn’t be going for huge moves right now. This is a solid signing and gives them a good mentor for a young QB and a solid fallback in the event of an injury. I wish he was still on the Eagles.

  9. Is the QB market really this bad? A.J. Feeley is mediocre at best. This will definately push the pricetag up for Vick. Thus far, this is the most bizzare signing of the day.

  10. Oh yeah! Because ANOTHER backup QB is just what the Rams need. What’s that, 3 of them now?

  11. NOOOOOOOOO!!!! AJ I will always love you. You are an Eagle forever. I will never forget the time started against the Pats in ’07 and almost ended their undefeated season. First B-Dawk, then b-West, now AJ. C’mon Andy and Co., stop tearing apart the core of the Eagles!

  12. Aj is a good QB but not great, hes a solid talent so the Rams made a good move. I dont know why Carolina didnt sign him, Moore goes down…..who you gonna call? ..culpepper,garcia,brunell, bulger?….VICK?!!!
    @ROCMAN-
Dude AJ has been gone for awhile now, if you really cared about the Eagles you would know this.

  13. @ rocman.. you must not watch much football – AJ wasnt even on the Eagles this past season..

Also in the “keeping with the times” theme, they added a Michael Vick clause. Feeley cannot attach electrodes to sick animals balls, or drown them or slam them head first into the ground, or hang them with piano wire. The Rams stated “If Mr. Feely has a animal he no longer feels he can care for, the contract states we are paying him enough money (certainly not 130M, but chances are AJ is smart enough not to lose it all either…) that he must euthanize the animal with a Vet. Not kick it until dead as it screams in pain.
Many Michael Vick supporters looked confused when the clause was announced…

  15. The Rams have sucked eggs at QB for 5+ years now. They have cycled through luminaries like Jaime Martin, Jeff Smoker, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Bulger had one good year, signed a big contract, got injured, and was pretty much just picking up his paychecks for the last 3 years. I agree that they needed a low end starter or solid backup veteran to keep the seat warm for whichever QB they will (likely) take with the # 1 pick.
So the Rams signed a guy who has been eating Twinkies and sitting on a couch for 3 years to be their QB? They give a crappy low-dollar ‘tender’ offer to their best player in the secondary (Atogwe)? I only have to ask what pipe is the Rams management smoking, and what is in that pipe?
Is this team trying to get better, or trying to keep the salaries down so the new owner keeps a few more bucks in his pocket? These decisions are reminding me of when the St. Louis Blues previous owners had a ‘fire sale’ and ran the team into the ground before selling them to Dave Checketts (who has been a good owner).
