There has been considerable air-clearing of late regarding free-agent contractual details (more on that coming soon), so let’s clear the air regarding a key component of the contract given by the Falcons to cornerback Dunta Robinson.
The deal initially was reported as paying Robinson $25.5 million guaranteed. A source with access to the numbers, however, tells us that this interpretation of the contract includes as guaranteed money a $3 million non-guaranteed option bonus payable in 2012.
Though the option bonus has a non-exercise fee, the Falcons could cut Robinson before the due date of the bonus and avoid the $3 million. Whether they will or won’t doesn’t matter; the point is that the $3 million isn’t guaranteed.
So the guaranteed money matches the amount given by the Colts to cornerback Kelvin Hayden.
So now you know.
“So now you know.”
And knowing is ½ the battle. Now let’s pick up big bad Ma’ake Kemoeatu. F the injuries and high price tag.
Do the Falcons loose next years forth or fifth round draft pick for tampering with Dunta?
and knowing is half the battle
I dunno…everytime I see that “Non-guaranteed” clause, it just seems to suggest “Good. Now we have 2 yrs to develop/find someone better so that you will never see that $3M”
Anyone else ever get that feeling?
My FALCONS RULE!!!!!!
GI JOE!
So … I thought this was free agency and “It doesn’t matter what Chris Gamble makes”… I guess it does.
And in the end, Dunta’s 22.5 guaranteed is Hayden and DeAngelo Hall money – slightly less than the Gamble money the Texans reportedly offered a year ago.
Hashbrowns is a hater.
