Fargas is a free agent

The Oakland Raiders have released running back Justin Fargas.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Raiders made the move, which had been expected, today. Fargas was due a $1.7 million roster bonus.

The 30-year-old Fargas has played his entire seven-year career in Oakland. His best season came in 2007, when he carried 222 times for 1,009 yards.

Fargas joins a crop of free agent running backs that includes Thomas Jones, Willie Parker and LaDainian Tomlinson.

And Fargas is the now the best FA running back out there.
    Hello Detroit

Which means McFadden will now be featured, which is a good thing.

In related news, the Fargas family now does believe in miracles as they are free to leave the worst franchise in the NFL.

Justin Fargas in San Diego? I bet he would love the chance to play the Raiders twice a year…

  13. Dave Wilson says: Mar 6, 2010 7:08 PM

Thats a tough guy to replace from a work ethic and leadership point of view. Hopefully he re signs later.

  14. DeVoodoo says: Mar 6, 2010 7:11 PM

Fargas played for the Trojans. Maybe Carrell comes calling?

  15. formerly dystopianow says: Mar 6, 2010 7:16 PM

Nice, release a leader and someone who plays smash mouth football when he was “only” owed 1.7 mil but keep a second string cornerback and pay him 3+ mil.

  16. Ray Guy says: Mar 6, 2010 7:21 PM

He is a first class team player on a team that needs leaders. Yeah, we don’t want those guys around. (sigh)
I hope he re-signs with the club, although I sure wouldn’t blame him for leaving if he does.
Thanks for your dedication and hard work.

If Fargas isn’t scooped up by another team, he’ll probably be back on Oakland’s roster at a cheaper deal.
But if he doesn’t come back, I have a feeling Oakland will add a tailback in the draft.
For some reason, I believe Oakland will take Jahvid Best in the second round if he lasts until the 38th pick. Saw Best play in high school for Salesian, and I hope he doesn’t got to Oakland, but he might.

Fargas should have plenty left in the tank due to never being the primary back. His agent could be telling teams “He’s thirty, but sort of a Ricky Williams 30″.

Splittin time three ways should have kept him healthy, but it seems like he was injured often.

  34. Big Tex says: Mar 7, 2010 7:17 AM

6 months younger than LT, but has been the most productive RB on the Raiders roster. Bush can’t get out of Cable’s dog house and McFadden can’t stay healthy and can’t move the pile when he is on the field. But what the hell. Why shouldn’t the RB situation in Oakland be just as screwed up as the QB situation and the WR situation and the OL situation and…….
