Giants remind Rolle of Hurricanes

Antrel Rolle says his decision to sign with the New York Giants was less about the money than it was about the attitude.

In fact, Rolle says, the Cardinals were willing to pay him just as much as the Giants, who signed him to a five-year, $37 million deal, an NFL record for a safety.

Ultimately, Rolle said when he met the media today, it came down to this: When he visited the Giants’ facilities on Friday, he felt at home — just as he did a decade ago when he went on a recruiting visit to the University of Miami and decided he wanted to be a Hurricane.

At first blush, that might sound a little strange: Giants coach Tom Coughlin is known as a strict disciplinarian, and the reputation of the Miami Hurricanes football program is not exactly one of strict discipline.

But Rolle said he’s particularly thrilled to be playing with his fellow Hurricane Kenny Phillips, calling himself and Phillips “The best [safety tandem] in the league, hands down. Without a doubt.”

“was less about the money and more about the attitude”…Yeah, that’s believable. 37 million had nothing to do with it, he just wanted to sign with a team that basically quit during the regular season last year.

What ever happened with phillips? last i read some were saying his knee could be career threatening…..any word on that?

Yes yes Miami doesnt play in december either. The Giants got a bad deal. Rolle is not big hitter and wont be able to cover well enough for the nfc east. The east is now a passing division. Rolle will get lost in coverage and Phillips will have to cover his ass. In addition, if Phillips gets healthy and plays all year, he will want a contract like Rolle. How many teams commit 60 million to two safeties?

Hard to believe these guys that sign for big bucks and say it wasn’t the money.

Try reading the article dumby. The Arizona offered to match the Giants contract offer and he still came to New York. So his decision to join the Giants wasn’t about money he could have got the same deal staying put.

Weird… he should have gone to Philly then… where the coach’s family was running a drug ring. Oh right… but they’ve never won a Superbowl… forgot that.

Who cares about Rolle any more? He is now on a Giants team that will not make the playoffs. That will be hilarious.

I knew the hurricanes paid well, but i didn’t know they paid that good. Or maybe he was referring to the number of convicts on the giants?

  14. Strahan92 says: Mar 6, 2010 1:29 PM

IF Phillips is healthy, he’s right.

I understand how bitter a Pats fan must still be after that humilation in the Super Bowl, but convicts? One guy admitted to smoking pot in college (never charged) and one guy stole an Xbox as a teen (and did his time). Yeah, that’s practically a Mafia family they’ve got there. Didn’t your starting QB’s wife have her hired goons open fire on some photographers south of the border while Tommy was there? Funny, how that case di$appeared without any questions about Tommy’s role in the incident ($$$). Attempted murder sounds a little rougher than stealing an Xbox. Oh, and let’s not forget the whole stealing signals thing. Funny how not one Super Bowl win now that the cameras are gone. Must be a coincidence.

Another pathetic virgin troll who has to bring the Eagles into a thread they’re not involved in.
We’re so inside your simple little mind, it’s pathetic.

  19. gianthinker says: Mar 6, 2010 3:22 PM

Funny to get such quips from Redskins, Eagles and Cowboys fans when the last I looked the Giants were the last team in this division to win a world Championship. “Miami doesnt play in december either.” Good call, one season without a playoff run sure makes the Giants foreign to the postseason. Hater!
