Jon Jansen re-signs with Lions

Jon Jansen grew up in the Detroit area and went to Michigan, and after re-signing with the Lions on Friday, he said his motivation was to be a part of turning around his down-on-its-luck hometown team.

“It wasn’t just about playing for another year,” Jansen said. “I want to be a part of something I think can be pretty special.”

The 34-year-old Jansen, who has been in the league for 12 years, signed a one-year deal with a $900,000 salary. The minimum salary for players with 10 or more years of experience is $855,000.

Jansen, who played in 11 games and started two for the Lions last year, said he believes the Lions are heading in the right direction. As someone who grew up in the area, he knows Lions fans have been hearing that for years.
