Let me begin by saying that, as hard as it is to admit, I am a Seahawks fan. I do not understand the fascination that they have had with receivers the past few years though! Every year they go out and get a new prized receiver, only for said receiver to disappear into obscurity. They just signed Housh last year. The way that Seattle is craving WR’s these last few years I am starting to think that Matt Millen has a hand in their front office!!
Marshall is a hell of a player and if Seattle was a WR away from competing I would say go for it but they are not close to competing, it is rebuilding time. Instead of blowing a 1st round pick on another receiver, lets try to fix that porous O line and get a QB and RB in our first 2 rounds.

As hard as it is to admit? Really? I guess four straight division titles, and a Super Bowl appearance in the last 6 years wasn’t enough to earn your proud fan appreciation for longer then two seasons? Clearly, these past two seasons have been tough on Seahawk fans that (gasp!) had grown accustomed to winning division titles, but this is football, and ALL teams have their ups and downs. The fact that two seasons of poor play was your breaking point is the #1 reason Seattle has the bandwagon reputation it has.
The reason they have seemingly had tunnel vision with WRs is because they are hard to find. There is almost always a market for a WR that has produced at some point in their careers. As a (closeted) Seahawks fan, weren’t you a little surprised by the money Nate Burleson received? Of course you were? We all were, except other GM’s that knew that what Nate received is simply the market value for a proven WR.
You are correct in that we need more pieces then just a WR. But WR is in fact a role of need nonetheless. You referenced the Houshmandzadeh signing from last year as a reason to look elsewhere. I’m sure you have the foresight to see that the Marshall signing would have the added benefit of moving Houshmandzadeh into the #2 role, a role that he flourished in, in Cincy. This would essentially cross WR off the “need” list. What pick in the first round would accomplish the same removal of need? I would love a stud linemen, but will we get one that is a lock to be successful? The NFL draft is probably the biggest crapshoot in all of sports. How many sure fire first round picks ended up being busts? Hell, the question would be easier to answer if I asked how many sure fire first round picks actually ended up being stars? That’s how inexact a science the draft is. And it is even harder when it comes to WR’s. Prior to the recent production of rookie receives i.e. Desean Jackson, Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin, rookie receivers were never factors for at least a couple of seasons. The transition from college to the pro game was simply too wide a margin. Yet how many went in the first round?
Bottom line, if Marshall didn’t have the off field problems that he has, a ton of teams would be after his services. Fortunately for the Seahawks he have a couple of coaches on the staff that have worked with Marshall, and feel they can provide the structure he needs to be a solid individual on and off the field. If we were going to be paying 6th pick money anyway, I’d rather it go to a highly successful WR who is still in his prime.

Speaking of Josh McDaniels; whom by the way….. I am not happy with as of yet. Had two months to prepare for a team in the midst of chaos, and recovering from a divorce from a coach who day dreamed for years about being a GM & Coach. And failed miserably. . . . . . . . Shanny, “luv ya man” but “plz stick to coaching and continue being the Master Mind”
As much as I hate to say it but here goes. . . . . . . . . Give Josh a break.

This is simple. Marshall and McDaniels both want a divorce. It makes sense. Marshall has grown up a bunch, but he can never escape the fact that he was largely responsible for the death of D Williams. This is not about making fans happy. It as about something that matters more than that. From the coaches perspective, he likes Brandon but has had to put up with too many problems (off field and at practice). He would send a bad message to the rest of the team if he let it pass.
Last year he got a good deal for Cutler, whether you like the trade or not. I suspect he will get a fair deal for Marshall or he will simply not trade him and have a top notch receiver for peanuts.
Josh’s biggest weakness appears to be draft value. But since he only had 2 months to prepare, I am willing to cut him some slack. I say let’s get through this draft before we pass judgement. A rookie coach deserves more than one year.

Yeah that’s right, the Donkey’s had the #2 offense. They also finished the year, excuse me, they finished both years losing the last half of the season. How much of that is caused by Javon Walker and Brandon Marshall is actually a very good question. Ever since that fateful night that Javon saw his friend bleed to death in his lap, the Broncos have been a very woeful team. Then we find out that Marshall has known all this time that he was the actual target. That would make anyone a headcase. The Broncos can’t repair the locker room until all those involved with that tragedy are gone. That needs done before anything else can be accomplished. Only THEN can Denver begin to resemble a well oiled machine. I hope I don’t sound callus, as I feel terrible for all involved.

Kyle Orton (hmm..), Robert Ayers (can’t beat out a journey man LB), Alphonso Smith (if 14th pick is traded for Marshall), Richard Quin (who uses a second rd pick on a blocking TE?), and #11 pick
and gave up
Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, and Johnny Knox (all have been selected to pro bowls FYI).

The Broncos should trade Orton away for like a 3rd round pick and go after a qb in the draft. Broncos were dumb to put just a first round tender on him. They should have franchised him and tried to sign him to a long term contract. Mcdaniels is such a dick and I don’t blame Marshall for wanting to leave.

What makes people think that McDaniels gives a CRAP about what the fans think. he’s going to do whatever he thinks is best for the team. Man some fans really think they are more important then they really are. As far as I’m concerned good riddance to Marshall as they offered him 9.5 mil last year and he turned it down. He clearly doesn’t want to be in Denver so quit whining, quit blaming McDaniels and move on biatches.

I couldn’t agree with xxxteejxxx more, you’re exactly right they don’t need another receiver. Like you said if they were a reciever away from competing it makes sense, but they obviously aren’t. Also, you hit it on the head that the offensive line is terrible…how is hasselbeck supposed to throw to these guys from his back? They do need to keep those picks, especially the 6th. They have a lot more needs than a WR and should address that in the draft.

Yeah, like Orton, Lloyd, Gaffney and Royal, they sure proved they are team players and winners! Orton is no better then Garcia would be in the system, and I would dump nearly the entire receiver corps. compared to Marshall, it takes alot more them team spirit to win, it takes talent. Ask Wade Phillips…lol.

That is no lie, he turned Denver’s feared run game into a bad-pun, the passing game into a shell of it’s former self and now he wants to change the blocking scheme…it is in all reality a very bad joke! Trade a Pro-Bowl quarterback for Orton, trade a Pro-Bowl receiver for a second round talented cornerback (Could play out that way) and then start Orton, Lloyd and Company and try to sell it to the fans…

Yep, Bengals could give up the #21 pick for Marshall and it would still be a steal. Only problem is, Marshall will cost 9-10 million per year and Mike Brown is CHEAP…Bengals need a real WR opposite Ocho…c’mon Cincy cut Laveranues Coles and go get Marshall!!!

Don’t see that happening, for one because lack of trade value (21st overall pick) and that they will likely target Owens or someone else which will not cost them a draft pick. There are a few teams with the need and trade ability that I am surprised haven’t been mentioned: San Francisco, Cleveland and Tampa Bay.

Figured as much, Seattle really does not want to give up the 6th overall pick. Bad news is that McDaniels will lose face if he accepts the 14th pick alone for Marshall, it would play out that in the end they traded a Pro-Bowl receiver for Alphonso Smith (a second round pick in the 2009 Draft) and the fans know it well. Most are already upset that in a round about way that he and Xanders traded a first round pick to get Smith. Losing Marshall for Smith will just piss the fans in Denver off a lot more.
Unless Seattle really adds something more to the 14th overall pick, if McDaniels pulls the trigger…he will not like the reception he gets in the Mile High city come the beginning of the season.
