Saints keep Pierson Prioleau

The New Orleans Saints are having positive talks with one of their free agent safeties, and they’ve already re-signed another.

Mike Triplett of the Times-Picayune reports that the Saints have re-signed veteran backup Pierson Prioleau to a one-year deal. Prioleau said he never wanted to go anywhere else.

“I embraced my role and the city, and I wanted to be here, after being in New Orleans for a year and being around the guys in that locker room,” Prioleau said. “Where I’m at in my career, I’m doing it because I love playing, and my kids are actually getting old enough where they enjoy it. I just want to play the game. It’s not a situation where, ‘Can I get all this money here or there?’ It was just, ‘Can I play for the Saints one more time?’”

Prioleau is a favorite of Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and has followed him around the league with stops in Buffalo, Washington and Jacksonville. He’s also a valuable member of the Saints’ special teams.

I think Prioleau is a big reason for the Saints’ improvement this year. Having played under Williams for so long, he was able to function almost like another coach and demonstrate exactly what Williams wanted of his defense.

Prioleau’s comment of “Can I play for the Saints one more time” and “I embraced my role and the city, and I wanted to be here, after being in New Orleans for a year and being around the guys in that locker room” are testiments to the current state of playing for New Orleans.
It is a very positive place in the NFL with a new-found championship attitide.
