Carr rolls out of San Fran, for now

alg_carr_runs.jpgJust when it looked like the San Francisco 49ers would land quarterback David Carr to serve as the backup to Alex Smith, the deal is now indefinitely on hold.

John Crumpacker of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Carr left the Bay Area on Saturday night without signing a contract to join the team.

The 49ers told Crumpacker that negotiations are continuing.

He reportedly is also drawing interest from the Cardinals and the Browns.  His most recent team, the Giants, might also try to keep the No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 draft, who has served as Eli Manning’s understudy for the past two years.

The fact that he’s the only free-agent quarterback who has met with a prospective team proves that this year’s crop of veterans is causing, to date, little or no excitement.

Patrick Willis flexed his muscles and David Carr ran away screaming like a little girl.

Teams probably just assuming Culpepper is signed to a long term deal. They’re going to look pretty stupid when he signs with the Pats and beats out Brady in training camp.

I never thought I’d see the day when DAVID CARR is the cream of the free agent crop!!!

Carr has should stay with the Giants pretty easy to play behind a guy that never misses a game the only two with longer records are Brett and Payton
So backing up Eli not a tough gig for anyone

    Raiders should sign carr

  12. aj says: Mar 7, 2010 4:36 PM

Carr probably realized that he might actually have to play. I’m guessing that’s not his idea of a good gig.

Oh, I get it. “Carr” is spelled like an automobile with wheels that roll, but not quite the same! Ha ha ha, very witty, Mike!

the 49ers probably figure they should offer the job to akili smith, cade mcnown, or ryan leaf before they commit to carr

I knew the whiners and their fans were fudgepackers, but crumpackers too? Hows Eric green doin? speakin of fudgepackers?

  16. fuhgyou says: Mar 7, 2010 6:08 PM

I was gonna say he was crazy to not sign with SF because he would have a realistic shot at a starting job if Smith fails to impress again…
…but then I saw that the Cards and Browns are also interested. Case closed.

Well, what about it? The scRams signed a Bulger wanna-be that use to wear a green jersey and had a few good games in the past 5-6 years. Just when I thought we got rid of that useless cancer, we do and then we bring his clone for forseeable future.
And I thought Ground Hog Day was just a movie… cr@p.

Raiderrob21- how are you going to rag on Crumpacker reporting for the niners when he reports for the raiders too?… Just another dumba$$ raider fan, go kill yourself for the good of the world. Your ignorance is not needed here.

I’s rather see Carr try to comeback with the Browns…I am actually hoping Alex Smith succeeds in SanFran

  20. HellsGrimTyrant says: Mar 7, 2010 7:22 PM

Carr would fit the Holmgren QB system. He always starts with a veteran backup. You can trace the Browns current mess to their inability to keep or replace Trent Dilfer for that vital back up/mentor role. They just threw DA and Quinn to the wolves then acted shocked when they got mauled. Carr isn’t ideal, but he’s got the experience necessary and you don’t survive 2 years under Coughlin without being prepare even if you are a back up.

What’s funny is that Carr would probably be an upgrade over Quinn or Anderson.

There are no losers in this, because if you don’t get David Carr, you get Josh McCown.
