It was widely believed last August that, if the Philadelphia Eagles decide not to make Mike Vick their starting quarterback in 2010, the team would hold an auction at the start of the new league year for his services.
The theory was fueled by the fact that Vick is due to earn a $1.5 million roster bonus at 4:00 p.m. ET on March 9, and by an assumption that the Eagles wouldn’t pay it.
But as a league source recently remarked, $1.5 million to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is like $15 to the rest of us. And so Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles will pay the money.
It means that the Eagles aren’t happy with any trade offers they’ve received for Vick, and that they’re willing to make Vick $1.5 million richer (before taxes) in exchange for the ability to get something closer to what they want later in the offseason.
And so the Eagles have taken this game of contract chicken up a notch, a la Costanza’s house in the Hamptons. Vick wants to have a chance to play more than a cameo role, and the fact that he’d choose his ideal team based on an affinity for their uniform suggests that he won’t be able to continue to say and do all the right things if he’s going to be once again stuck at the bottom of the depth chart.
The problem is that Vick’s value to another team will diminish as the offseason workout program unfolds, limiting the amount of time a new team will have to get Vick ready for the start of the season.
I wonder if the Eagles really want to trade Mcnabb but aren’t sure about Kolb or what a competent backup. Is it possible that they could have an open competition between Kolb and Vick, which Kolb would win because he knows the offense better?
slowwwww news day.
and the eagles continue their reputation as the worst trading team in the history of all teams.
*queue the vick hate speeches*
Raiders – watch!
If this was after the draft I would be concerned. But I would assume they are looking to make a draft day deal regarding Vick. Its the only thing that makes sense to me.
i love the fact that free agents are blowing off the Eagles, their only scheduled visit is from a bust of a first round pick (and it hasn’t even happened yet), and they’re forced to pay $1.5 million on a guy who will definitely not be a part of the solution. no wonder the Eagles fans call themselves the best football fans in the country… it takes some dedication to stick with a team with absolutely no plan.
Why would teams who could have had Vick for nothing last year line up to throw draft choices at the Eagles for him this year? Make some sense out of this please…
I think they’ll rebuild in the draft for Kolb to take over next year and deal a QB in August. That’s my 2 cents.
Once the Eagles pay Vick his bonus then he is that much cheaper for any interested Team ….
“But as a league source recently remarked, $1.5 million to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is like $15 to the rest of us.”
His net worth is a billion bucks, according to Forbes. I guess that’s like $100,000 to the rest of us. And remember he’s paying it to Michael Vick. To the rest of us that’s like paying $15 for a Michael Vick trading card that we think we can trade for more to someone else. Only it’s very common trading card that nobody really wants because it’s all worn on the edges from getting ass-raped in prison for two years.
That’s $3.1 million spent on any draft pick they get out of him, and they haven’t even made the pick yet. Over a million per TD scored. Or over $17,000 per yard gained, if you prefer. It’s all good, that’s like 1.7 cents per yard to Jeffrey Lurie. Roughly the price of a single piece of candy, which is about what Vick is actually worth in the real world.
I don’t see any way that McNabb starts the season with the Eagles without a contract extension. One bad game and everyone will be clamoring for him to be benched so Kolb can take over. The pressure will be on because everyone will know that its “Win the Super Bowl or else” for McNabb. I personally think that its already been settled who is staying and who is going. McNabb has probably worked out a deal with the Eagles to keep his mouth shut for now or he’ll get traded to Oakland. They want this to play out as long as possible to get the best deal possible for whoever it is that they’ve decided to trade.
“Once the Eagles pay Vick his bonus then he is that much cheaper for any interested Team ….”
Oh right, because some team will be more willing to pay him the other ~$7 million including incentives that the second year of his contract calls for.
Who exactly blew off the Eagles? They werent going to match the insane Peppers contract. Theres nobody out there this year.
@nittnayliono – another internet tough guy
Who is your team? Since you have so much mouth. Wait, let me guess?
Steelers? Cowboys? Saints? Packers?
Judging by your screen name you’re probably a bandwagon Steeler fan.
We dont want your opinion.
wow.. its funny you write all these stories about how their’s no salary cap and it doesnt really matter especially not this year and you write this story about them giving him 1.5 mil for only this season so far and act like it really matters to their payroll..
“Who exactly blew off the Eagles?”
Aaron Kampman. He cancelled his visit to that shit-hole…..
The Eagles will NEVER win a Super Bowl. I hope the crack fiends in south philly (Marvin Harrison types) enjoyed watching the “lowly” Saints hoist the lombardi befor their pathetic franchise.
nittanyliono, no plan?
They have the 4th most wins in the league while Reid has coached. They’ve gone to 5 NFC Championship games.
They have no plans? Are you delusional? Yes, they have not won a championship, but other than the Colts, Patriots, and Steelers; who has been more stable?
I mean, seriously, I understand if you have some form of hatred for the team. But don’t let it cloud your ability to tell that the team obviously has a plan every year. Success year after year in the NFL doesn’t just manifest on its own.
vox
if vick is worth a 1.7 cent piece of candy, what are you, an infamous internet trash talker disliked by many, worth?
Vick’s value will diminish as the off-season unfolds? Huh? Only to the extent that no starting QB in the NFL gets injured before September.
Teams didnt want to touch Vick last year considering all the baggage. Now that he is a year removed from re-entering the league more teams would be more inclined to maybe take a look at him. So yes a team would trade a pick for him, Im not saying what round though. Otherwise whats the point of paying the roster bonus and keeping him if not to trade him before or on draft day-or days?
eagles are retarded this is gonna play out the saw way anquan boldin did cuz they aren’t gonna get wat they want for vick then he’ll leave next year and they won’t get anything, they don’t need him and he ist even worth that much based on his perfomance so idk why they expect some blockbuster offer from somebody. Eagles=idiots
@ Hooby:
They once traded A.J. Feely for a second round pick from Miami and got Feely back two years later.
Last year they traded two fifths to N.E. for Hobbs and then traded Greg Lewis to N.E. for a fifth; Lewis ended up a Viking by the start of the season and Hobbs was good for the Eagles, and they essentially got him for one fifth round pick.
Then they traded Lito Shepherd for a pick, and he is now looking for a team. They actually are a good trading team. I’m sure plenty more examples will hit me (including the many, many draft trades).
raiders will grab him
@ Vox:
Stop counting last year’s salary as part of evaluating whatever draft pick they get.
He served as their third QB last year; they would have carried a third QB no matter what, so they didn’t give up a roster spot;
meanwhile, they had arguably the best third QB they could have as insurance;
and third, he made several important plays for them throughout the course of the season on third down conversions, which you wouldn’t normally expect out of a third down QB.
So it was a good move last year, and giving him the bonus is a good move this year. At worst, they keep him for the year and again have the best insurance policy they can have.
And every report has Kampman never having been scheduled for a visit by the Eagles, so again, who blew them off?
“if vick is worth a 1.7 cent piece of candy, what are you, an infamous internet trash talker disliked by many, worth?”
Way more than Vick. Michael Vick barely has a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of because he owes millions to creditors. That’s the reason for the big push to rehab his image. He needs to start making millions of dollars really fast just to break even or he will never own anything of any real value ever again.
“They have no plans? Are you delusional?”
OK. They have no GOOD plan. Their plan apparently is to get some draft picks out of one or two 30+ guys (Vick will be 30 by the time the season rolls around) that are in the last years of their contracts. Two guys who played their best football long ago. From there, I suppose the plan is to fill all of their holes in the draft.
Feel better?
All the garbage aside, what did Vick do to warrant a significant draft pick from anyone? He never was an NFL QB as a passer and he clearly has lost a step since his youth at Atlanta. At best he is a gimmick guy who can give you a play here and there. Why would anyone give anything up for him?
@vox – Vick was a “guest” at the club med of prisons, no ass raping but that would have been ironical had that happened.
@truman – If you don’t know what you are talking about, shout your mouth. There is an entire city from where you think Marvin Harrison is from and South Philly.
@krow – for two reasons;
1) some of the stink of what he had done would have worn off, so the protests would not be as bad
and
2) He would take his football rust on the dime of another team.
@LAEagleFan – uuummm…dude…it’s been a “win the Super Bowl or else” for the Eagles since 2004. It’s been in hyper-drive since 2008. Now it’s the worst thing that could have happened to any sports team, apathy.
The Eagles are notorious for either overvaluing players or wringing all the usefulness from them before letting them walk. Expect Vick to be traded for a 4th or 5th round pick just prior to, or during the April draft. In the unlikely event that he stays, they’ll owe him $5 million and change in 2010.
“The problem is that Vick’s value to another team will diminish as the offseason workout program unfolds, limiting the amount of time a new team will have to get Vick ready for the start of the season.” ——-
You forgot to add the “Or he could end being worth more after teams qb’s get injured during training camp, beach flag football, or arrested in the middle of Georgia for sexual harassment.”
So, in the end, his value could be worth more or less to another team depending on their situation.
@ vox: your 1-5′boys have a great record of making the correct personnel decisions over the past decade. Simply amazing is what they are…
@Outsyder – “They have no plans? Are you delusional? Yes, they have not won a championship, but other than the Colts, Patriots, and Steelers; who has been more stable?”
Oh, yeah. I’ll take stability over Super Bowl wins any day of the week! Thanks Andy, Don, Jeff and Joe for stability. What’s that silver object that they’re hoisting over their heads? Stability.
Outsyder is right the egals always have a plan.
The plan is to get that shit hole city all hot and bothered and then CHOKE
And yes I know what he means about a stable that is where the philly women live
Vick will be traded. Mcnabb is the starter and Kolb is the backup. Time to move onto a new story.
ok ok… the Eagles have a plan. make it to the playoffs and flop again. all this winning and they see franchises like the Saints and the Cardinals come from behind them, put together winning plans from out of nowhere, and have more success at the top.
and for the record, i am a Giants fan.
“if the Philadelphia Eagles decide not to make Mike Vick their starting quarterback in 2010…” No one even considered that as a possibility besides you.
The eagles do suck in the playoffs. But they are ALWAYS there. One superbowl win in a franchises history does not make your team a great franchise. Being competetive year in and year out does. Until the birds win one though, that will be every other idiots main argument of why there team is better then the eagles.
The Phildelphia Toliet Seats will go 5-11
nittnayliono, hey goof the fourth winningest team of 2000 was the eagles and they never ever had any salary cap issues but were still very competitive.thats why the front office got rated number 2 last year for operations.think before you speak with your penn state education
$15 > Vick
@P-way Eagles – Playing in the Super Bowl is why you play the games. Clearly, from pee wee ball to the pros, the object is to find out who is the best. With the Eagles, it’s, about how we can make the most money. But that isn’t what stirs the passion of Philly fans. The fans want to win. Why, because they associate their team with civic pride and community. The Eagles have been part of the fabric of Philadelphia for generations. There is great bonding around this team. Ownership makes a mockery of that by pronouncing themselves to be the NFL gold standard, and the team with the best roster in the NFL. The organization is none of that. Maybe they win in the regular season, but the post season is a groundhog day disaster. The fans are frustrated because they pin their hopes on being able to someday boast that they are the best, just like long-suffering Saints fans got to do. The coach in a sort of tongue-in-cheeek manner talks about the loses as being his responsibilty and needing to put the guys in better positions to win. But he never does. It’s just spin. He stubbornly does the sames things, year after year. He arrogantly discounts key, critical positions such as linebacker, safety, receiver and running back. All these positions are vital, but each year, one of these areas comes back to bite him in the butt. If you are going to boast about being a gold standard, have one or two of those Lombardis there to back up your words.
I wouldnt say they suck in the playoffs, they almost always win a round, have made 5 champ games, a SB, and gotten very close a lot.
and lost by three to a pats team that didnt allow points a lot, and knew what plays were coming.
@P-way Eagles:
unfortunately, in sports… you’re judged by the amount of hardware you have in the trophy case. how unfair!
Get your Philly areas straight: North Philly is thug-ville. South Philly is the cavemen that break big rocks into little rocks.
Can we please come up with a football IQ test that people must score the minimum before they post? theKING is shocked @ some of these comments. 32 teams in the NFL and off the top of my head, theKING can name 14 where Vick would be a better starting option. A QB in the NFL is a commodity and paying a starting QB a bonus of 1.5 M is low, by today’s over-inflated standards. The Eagles will get that 1.5 back in terms of cash comp or player(s) when they move Vick. theKING has been saying since day 1 of offseason, Mc5 is not going anywhere. ’10 will be his year to re-write his history or be shown the door. Kolb CAN play and the team owes a certain bit of respect to Mc5 for his years of service. However, IF they can get a #1 for him, they will trade him. ONLY 2 teams in NFL that can offer a #1: SF and Buff.
Blowing off the Eagles in FA? Who was worth it? Peppers will be mid to late 30′s @ the end of his contract & Eagles are rich on DL, Kampman has 1 knee. I wish they would have taken a look @ Dansby and Rolle, BUT desperate teams over-paid them. Eagles are an extremely solid team in terms of draft & FA, better than MOST teams in the league. Their #1 objective was “long term” for Weaver and they did it. You’ll see them become a little more active this week. KUDOS to the poster that mentioned the Hobbs & Leetoo Shep transactions, YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT!
KING~out
by the way, for all of you people that think the Eagles “suck” in the post-season, GET A CLUE. How many teams in NFL history made it to 5 conf title games in such a short period of time, maybe 3? The ONLY people that think GREATNESS is measured by Super Bowl WINS are clueless recliner commentators. Check Mc5′s playoff stats and W/L compared to P Manning, many of you think “he’s the best of modern day NFL”. Biased stats and opinions based on general “likeability” of the player.
KING~out
Who cares that Mcnabb has gone 1-4 in NFC title games? So what?
Fact is, he’s 2 years away from retirement and the team that surrounds him is 2 years away from being a contender.
To keep him for the sake of 10 wins and an early exit makes no sense whatsoever.
If Patrick Ewing could get traded from the Knicks, McNabb can get traded from the Eagles. When it’s time to move on, it’s time. Stop being sappy and sentimental.
Vick Jerseys will 3.95 in about a week
So you would take McNabb over Peyton Manning right now?
If you were the Colts you’d trade Manning for McNabb? How many extra picks would you be willing to add along with Peyton?
And I totally agree that “likeability” can lead people to delude themselves. And you should know.
Dear lord…
No kidding mcnabb sucks and forget patrick ewing if JOE MONTANA can be traded so can sorry ass mcthrowuponhimself
theKING says: March 7, 2010 8:21 PM
Can we please come up with a football IQ test that people must score the minimum before they post?
———–
Would want to stop yourself from posting would you?
Agree that the amounts paid for this crop of FA’s was sickly over-inflated.
HOWEVER, if you want to keep McNabb for one more year and “go for it”…then go for it.
This team is so far from contending, has gone backwards every day since the Cardinals playoff loss. There are far too many holes to be filled in the draft, and second tier free agents are just that…second tier.
Seriously, let’s be real. If we played the Cowboys (a B- team) 50 times at the end of last season, how many would we have won? 10? Tops?
And that team got smoked by the Vikings the next week.
This is the worst defense I have seen since the Kotite days of Keith Millard, Ray Seals, and Eric McMillian.
On offense, we started rebuilding 2 years ago and have since turned over every skill position. Only difference is that now the OL is a mess.
Team is 2 years away from gelling and being on the upswing again. So why bank on a guy who (a) has lost the big game with better personnel and (b) won’t be here for 2011?
Or do we want to bring him back in 2011 too? Why? Because he lost to Ricky Manning Jr and Joe Jurevicius back in the day?
Makes no sense short-term or long-term. It’s all about sentimentality.
Can buy all the time they want, they had a chance to showcase him during the season to drive up value and never did.
Obvious there is nothing left to showcase…
Vick Bounty
Mooch
Why is it time to move on? He’s not even old. Because he finally didnt win the first round game? Not his fault, if you watched.
I’m the biggest Mc5 basher you’ll meet. I just hate when people bash him for the sake of bashing. Also hate when people bash Philly over snowballs @ Santa, which was 40 yrs ago and all the other nonsense they say. MOST have no clue what they’re saying.
Mc5′s quirkiness has always turned me off, the “smiles” after a bad play irritates me, the playoff “guitar hero” was the last straw for me. His talent cannot be called in to question, his accuracy and DESIRE drives me Nuckin Futs!!!
He couldn’t carry Manning’s jock, BUT their playoff W/L are closer than the recliner commentators can comprehend.

Smackmy: I will debate football or any other topic with you ANY DAY, ANY TIME, ANY VENUE. You are well out of your league with theKING. Go back to making armpit noises & laughing @ your farts. I’m just trying to bring open-minded dialogue in to this thread.

Well done.
I will see your Joe Montana and raise you a Wayne Gretzky.
Could also go Wilt, but there were so many reasons why he went to LA that it can’t be equated to any other athlete.
Apparantly if you win one superbowl thats all the hardware you need. My main point is the Eagles are a competitive team year in and year out. One day they will get lucky and win the big one…Then all eagles fans wont have to hear the bs about ever winning the big one.
“Why is it time to move on? He’s not even old. Because he finally didnt win the first round game? Not his fault, if you watched.”
Lots of breaks like getting a PI call against AZ
You embarrass yourself with that statement. How many points did we score against Dallas in those last 2 games? If you watched.
And if the QB is – as you would seem to believe – not really a factor in a game…then why not just sign David Carr and start him? And keep our fingers crossed. Or maybe Doug Pederson?
Ya know, for a “great” QB McNabb seems to need all of the below all the time:
1) A great defense that gives up minimal pts
2) A great OL that keeps him free of pressure
3) A run-heavy game plan
4) A power back who can chew up clock
5) Veteran WR’s, because young guys make mistakes
6) WR’s that can catch passes behind / over them
7) A go-to TE like we had with Chad Lewis
9) No injuries to key players on the team
He’s the only supposed HOF QB that needs to have every single factor go his way. If you think that, it would seem you have a far lower opinion of him than I do. Because with people like you…it’s NEVER Mcnabb’s fault.
He needs everything to go right to win. But Peyton didn’t. Brees didn’t. Brady didn’t. Eli sure as heck didn’t. And yet they all won that Super Bowl ring. Not that SB’s matter, though!
But no matter what happens, it will never be Mcnabb’s fault in your eyes. So why bother?
I am with you on all that – especially the guitar playing.
To me, one’s opinion of McNabb is almost meaningless in this discussion.
Here is the fact – the team is 2 years away from getting back on track. And by then, McNabb is gone anyway.
So, get value now and use that to further the rebulding mode you have already begun.
To do otherwise is to be like the 76ers…keep Iverson and continue the 42-40 seasons where we were a quickly dismissed #7 seed.
If the team were better, or if we made a run at premium FA’s, I’d be OK with keeping DMac. But the team has regressed in recent years. We need numerous front-line starters, and apparently they’ll be young 2nd tier FA’s or younger draft picks. Jeez, we may even need a new D-Coor and scheme if there is a repeat of last season.
I can’t reconcile rebuilding with keeping McNabb around for one more year. Because I am not sure anyone thinks he’s back again in 2011.
OK-
Here’s the bottom line: The Eagles will have McNabb as their starter and have Kolb as their backup. They want a back, so they’re dealing a lot- including Vick, to get as much as they can in terms of defense and a running game.
Vick will be traded for draft picks, period. That’s what they want. And Vick will be traded as soon as the QBs finish their pro days, not before.
But the Eagles want to win now. The best way to win now is to have McNabb at quarterback and to get a running game. Kolb is a nice backup, but he’s a backup. He may be ready to start, but he’s not better than McNabb. And the Eagles will not want to sacrifice their season to mature Kolb.
And Vick will be basically a draft pick for a team that is bad but want to win right now. St. Louis looks like a good place because they need to win right now in order to justify their presence in the city.
Vick’s TD pass at Dallas in the playoffs was a thing of beauty. The fumble, not so much.

Talk about your thrill of victory vs. agony of defeat.
First off the crack and dope heads are in North Philly not South Philly. South Philly is all the wanta be wise guys. As for it being a shit-hole thats nuts, its the birthplace of this country have some respect. As for the Eagles being competitive thats a joke. There main goal is making money and not winning. I’m glad they didn’t get Peppers at that crazy amount of money, but I would have taken Kampman in a second for the chumpchange he got. Olny 11 for sure so you could have cut him if hes done, if he produces you pay him the full 26mil. Not that much when you look at what they have wasted on dog killer and the Andrews sisters, oh and don’t forget D.Howard. The Eagles don’t have a plan to win, if they did they would fire Andy Reid after we got the crap kicked out of us in back to back weeks by a team lead by W.Phillips. I don’t think they have a clue what there doing. As for all the NFC chumpionship games, they mean nothing. The NFC has been a joke for most of a decade. As former Eagle Herm suck it giants fans Edwards once said “You play to win”, not you play to be competitive. I also agree that the booing Santa thing is way over played, that happened before most of the people posting were born and Santa was a drunk ass. The snow ball stuff happens in every city where it snows that has a team. I once got wacked in the back of the head with a beer can in the parking lots of the North Jersey Swamp land Giants. So there are scum bags in every city, stop acting like Philly is the only city that has no class, because it aint. I am honest and don’t have class, now you classless wormburners need to be honest too.
Its funny how this hater ass MF “VOX” wants to talk hella crap about Vick and the Eagles all of the time. You talk like you have it figured out when actually the Eagles have until week 5 of the ’10 season to decide whether or not they want to keep Vick. Bro, you’re just another internet troll that googles stats and tries to act like you have this NFL game figured out. I guarantee you that last season you probably came out with hella “google” stats that “prooved” that you precious cowgirls would win the super bowl. And look what happened! Another steamroll loss to help solidify Romos place in history. You cowgirl fans wanna talk shit about McNabb not winning the big game, when in reality, McNabb had just as many playoff wins in his career in his 1st full year as a starting QB than Romo has had in his entire career. And if you wanna bring up super bowl wins, go ahead, because the cowboys dont have 1 single player on their roster with any SB wins so quit living in the past you F’n “Al Bundy” wannabe!!
“But the Eagles want to win now. The best way to win now is to have McNabb at quarterback and to get a running game.”
Win what? Ten games? The SB is not an attainable goal this year. The team’s personnel is not there, and we all saw the QB come up short with far better talent than this. How can you say you can win a SB when you have not beaten a winning team in a full season+?
And we will not have a running game. Because Reid is the coach.
This is ten years of us seeing this. We know how this ends.
“Kolb is a nice backup, but he’s a backup. He may be ready to start, but he’s not better than McNabb. And the Eagles will not want to sacrifice their season to mature Kolb.”
Unless you start him, he will always be a backup. So, McNabb will be a better choice in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013…
Why did we waste a #2 pick on a guy we had no intent to ever start? You are retarding the team’s progress. Why?
Yes, you have no chance to win the SB next yar with Kolb. But you have a 0.001% chance to win a SB with McNabb. But kickstarting rebuilding recovers you a year that is essentially lost anyway.
Here it is…
You have a short-term goal of winning a SB – neither McNabb nor Kolb can get this team there in 2010. We need to find a way to beat a B- Dallas team. We lost to Oakland, dude.
You have a long-term goal of rebuilding the team. Started with Dawkins laving, Jackson and Celek starting, etc. So why plug in a vet who will not be here in 2011?
You have an asset in McNabb that, if not dealt now, loses all value and walks for nothing. So that’s a wasted opportunity that could have helped you achieve a long-term goal.
You spent a high pick for Kolb, which goes wasted. That hinders your long-term goals.
From a football and business standpoint, the only move that makes sense is to deal McNabb.
Why do you want a 10 win season and an early playoff exit? When it hurt you long-term? Do you derive any joy from that? To me, the last two seasons were joyless, bad football that bored me to tears.
I don’t know about you, but I have watched this team for a long time – and I haven’t seen players as bad as Macho Harris, Fukou, Stacey Andrews, and King Dunlap playing for this team since the Kotite era. It’s a weak squad.
South Philly isn’t even all Italian anymore.
As for N Philly. I will stack the area around CB Moore and Broad against a lot of downtown areas in major cities of the US in terms of entertainment and safety (go there, the transformation will amaze you). And Temple is probably better than most of the colleges in so-called big cities in the midwest.
Philly’s problem is bad PR, always has been and always will.
@bigbluefan
You’re right. The eagles did have a plan last year. The plan was to score 100 in the 2 games against the Giants.
Well we only scored 85….Damn! We failed again.
45-38
40-16
Worry about you’re own sorry a** team. Have fun watching Jackson running right by Rolle this year.
mcnabb has nothing left and the eagles front office knows that…banner and lurie have no compassion therefore they will trade him without even giving the guy a handshake…as long as lurie and banner run this team, they’ll never be a 3-13 team ever again because as much as we like to blame them for things, they are actually the genius that turned our eagles around, and they know that as well, being the reason they make decisions that we question….that said, the eagles will try to deal mcnabb this offseason and most likely on draft day for a first round….how do they get the first round pick tho?…so here we go…a team like arizona is going to say no first rounder but thet’ll give a second rounder, here is where a team like san fran or seattle come into play…sf or sea wants vick, so the eagles say ok 1st rounder for vick – but you have to take donovan also and trade him to and trade to arizona and they’ll give you a second round in exchange….BOOM…works for everybody…philly get 1st rounder..sf or sea gives 1 of their 2 first rounders, aquires vick, and gets the pick back but instead of 1st round now its 2nd round (which is very reasonable deal for vick if you like him and have two 1st rounders)…and the arizona type team that only is willing to give a 2nd rounder lands mcnabb…very workable deal with smiles on everyones faces ! … this would work with a team with one 1st round pick too i.e. buffalo, if they are willing to give their 1st rounder for vick and a 2nd rounder….this is exactly why they paid vick and this will be the exact scenario. hope this helps. if theres a gm position for hire, contact me lol
He has no value, hes too small and too inaccurate to play NFL Qb.
No team is going to give anything other than maybe 6th round pick. He’s shown that he dont have it anymore. We saw him last year. What could of possibly changed?
I don’t understand why people in Philly hate McNabb. He’s a damn good QB. I mean I understand he hasn’t won a superbowl yet but he prob will because the Eagles are in the Playoffs every freaking year. I mean i’m a lions fan and i would have done anything to have McNabb as my QB. This year was really the only year he got talent. It’s the defense that didn’t do jack. They need a middle linebacker in the worst way. I mean Maclin was a rookie and got like 800 receiving yards and Lesean Mccoy was a rookie and did well. Brent Celek is young and did well. Desaun Jackson owned the Nfl this year. I mean you give him at least 2 more years i bet McNabb would get his ring. Just thing the 6th seed was the Packers this year and they were like 12-4 and a damn good team. The AFC had like 2 teams the Colts, and The chargers (even tho they lost to the jets) and the jets aren’t a premier team they got lucky like the cards last year. the NFC playoffs was stacked this year so it doesn’t suprise me he hasn’t won one yet. I think Philly needs to shut up and be glad with wat a good qb they have. Dan Marino never won a superbowl but people in Miami weren’t busting on him, thats like telling Dan to leave because he never won a superbowl, just think for a second
“I don’t understand why people in Philly hate McNabb. He’s a damn good QB.”
We don’t hate him, we just want to go to the next level and we have over a decade of results that make it clear he can’t get us there. Just because 30 people booed him on draft day doesn’t mean he’s hated.
“I mean I understand he hasn’t won a superbowl yet but he prob will because the Eagles are in the Playoffs every freaking year.”
Have you seen the personnel on this team? Did yu watch the Dallas games? This team pales in comparison to those of previous playoff runs. Some of the worst players since Kotite now start.
“I mean i’m a lions fan and i would have done anything to have McNabb as my QB.”
He can be yours for a #2 and #3…would you do that if you were GM. After all, you think he is gonna win a SB.
“This year was really the only year he got talent.”
Uh, really? You are aware we had TO once, right? And once had a health RB who was the best all-purpose guy since Faulk? And now those guys are gone?
“I mean you give him at least 2 more years i bet McNabb would get his ring. ”
Based on what? The D and OL are a mess now. If we couldn’t win with A- and B+ teams, what makes you think he can win with a B-/C+ team?
“…the NFC playoffs was stacked this year so it doesn’t suprise me he hasn’t won one yet.”
And for most of his tenure here Dallas sucked. The Giants have only been good during the latter half of his career. Redskins have always blown. He feasted off bad competition. Look at the W-L record against winning teams. Against playoff teams. We haven’t beaten one of those since 2008.
“I think Philly needs to shut up and be glad with wat a good qb they have.”
Unlike Detroit, we’d like to win something. I know that you would kill for a ten win season, but that’s no longer enough. It has to be about a SB.
It is clear your conception of the Eagles fans is low, and you wildly overvalue the current roster. I can only guess you listen to the national media who don’t live here and never visit.
PS – I was a big Lion fan in the Mouse Davis era, and then Barry Sanders. Great days, and I’d like to see the franchise come back from the dead.
And where are all the love letters to Jay Cutler from the Detroit fans? He’s better than what the Lions have too! And so is Kyle Orton. And Matt Cassel.
And why aspire to be the Eagles? Why not the Steelers or Patriots. Way to aim high!
