Fargas will visit the Chiefs

NFL_fargas_250.jpgRunning back Justin Fargas, who was cut by the Raiders for supposedly failing a physical but who claims he didn't, could be getting a chance to take another physical soon.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Fargas will be visiting the Chiefs.

"I was told by [Raiders coach Tom Cable] that they were moving in a different direction," Fargas told White.  "They said it was strictly about money. . . .  I know some things were put out there, I guess they said I didn't ass [unfortunate typo not narrowly averted] a physical.  I'm a little disappointed by the way it happened but I understand it's a business."

He told White that he won't be retiring, and while he says he won't return to the Raiders his agent has been in touch with the 49ers.

And if Fargas is willing to move north, his former college coach could be interested, too.

As to the notion that it was "strictly about money," Fargas was due to earn a base salary of only $755,000 in 2010.  But he also was owed a roster bonus of $1.7 million.

Per NFLPA records, Fargas was under contract with the Raiders through 2014, with a base salary maxing out at $1.775 million in the final year.

He had a 1.7 million dollar roster bonus due.. '

However, as a Raiders fan, it was a mistake - this guy is a beast. Probably one of the hardest and most wreckless runners in the NFL. I love seeing him run the rock..

It's nice to see the Chiefs have figured out the free agency period is open.

Strictly a business move...Raiders have a TON of money invested in McFadden and M. Bush is A LOT younger with more upside.

Hate to see Fargas in a Chief uniform (not sure why they would sign him instead of Thomas Jones), but it wouldn't be the first time a Raider RB ended his career in Kansas City.

My guess you will see the Raiders pick up a RB in the later rounds of the draft to get younger (and hopefully faster) in the RB position.

With SO MANY bad personnel decision in the last few years (and no #1 pick next year) the Raiders have to start getting younger and cut payroll where they can since they have SO much money tied up in four players (two of them special teamers) and an ANOTHER high first round pick to pay AGAIN this year.

He is not very good. He has 0 vision as he just picks a spot and tries to run right through it. That's great for 2 yards here and there but he never had any special quality to make him a starting RB. He can't break big runs and he has a lot of mileage on his constantly injured frame.

Serviceable backup, I'm sure, but not a starter for any other team unless due to other injuries promoting him.

He was not a beast. Please! You make him sound like Bo Jackson.

He ran for 3000 yards and 10 td's in 7 seasons. He was injury prone, too.

The guy played hard, I'll give him that. But a beast? Naw.

I would like to see him get a call for a visit in Minnesota.

I guess this means Thomas Jones won't be a Chief?

Not quite sure I would agree with that one...If Al would have handled that situation better the Raiders would have had a one-two punch at RB (paired up with Bo Jackson) that might have gotten the Raiders through the Marc Wilson-Jay Schroeder era.

lol V-argas must be a latino... f's and v's sound so similar

It was unfortunate how many times Justin would charge head first into the only defender separating him from a TD, instead of even trying to juke the guy.

Maybe that is part of the reason why he has more career fumbles than career TDs.

Good luck, Justin Fargas. At least we always knew that you were trying your hardest...unlike some other Raiders.

We need to clean locker.. Trade and release expensive players and start with youth and hungry players instead of tired and money hungry players we have.

Trade Asomugha and get value for him
Release - Thomas Howard / Kirk Morrison. Howard is crying while Morrison is better as a backup.

I would much rather have a good offense than a great defense and a pathetic offense.

Fargas runs hard and hits the hole but has zero vision. He just flies forward at 100 mph and slams into whatever's there, be it a running lane or a defender.

A tough runner. Good athlete. If he had field vision and instincts he would've and could still be something special.

  17. MrNatural says: March 8, 2010 3:54 AM

Fargas could be nothing more than he was while in a Raider uniform. Not a team to advance anyone's career.

  18. mattraider says: March 8, 2010 4:35 AM

fargas was a true raider and will be missed by the fans and im very sure the players will feel the same way. Time for Bush and Dmac to step it up. On the upside 3 was a crowd at running back and Mike Bush never got the carries he deserved, im looking forward to seeing him get more carries this year, the guy has already proved what he can do with more than a dozen carries a game, hes a michael turner mark 2

  19. raidermot says: March 8, 2010 5:47 AM

    Wait a minute...

Who knows what Fargas could do on a team with an decent O-line and compentent OC calling plays and running in an offenseive system that is not 25 years out of date.

He hasn't had much of that during his time in Oakland.

  20. Big Tex says: March 8, 2010 6:55 AM

Old, oft-injured RB who averaged less than 500 yards and fewer than 2 TDs a season. Not exactly the definition of "a beast" or "the hardest and most wreckless (sic) runners in the NFL". And certainly not a guy that anyone should be in a hurry to pledge 7 figures to.
And Redleg, I'm not sure that faster is necessarily a need at the RB position. McFadden is plenty fast. How about "productive"?

  21. tango says: March 8, 2010 1:15 PM

Good luck "Huggy Bear". Loved your work ethic and class. Something most of the other Raider players and ALL of the front office does not have. I will chear you when you vist us in a Chiefs uniform and give dead Al and convict Herrera the one finger salute at the same time !

"It's nice to see the Chiefs have figured out the free agency period is open."

And their first move is to get someone to shore up the only part of their game that had any success last year?

It would be nicer if they figured out what purpose of the free agency period is.
