Fujita leaves the Saints

ScottFujitaAP.jpgThe Bayou buzzkill officially has begun.

On the same day that word emerged of linebacker Scott Fujita’s decision to donate half of his 2009 playoff earnings to New Orleans charities, Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Fujita has signed with the Browns.

Fujita has started at outside linebacker for the Saints since 2006.  Grossi notes that, in Cleveland, Fujita possibly could move to one of the two inside positions in the team’s 3-4 defense.

The eight-year veteran also has played for the Chiefs and the Cowboys.

Injuries limited Fujita to 10 regular-season starts in 2009.  He started every postseason game, including Super Bowl XLIV.

Although I appreciate his hard work off the field (coastal restoration donation), he’s expendable and old for a starting OLB in Gregg Williams’ schemes.
    Welcome, Brandon Graham!

If Rapistberger escapes the courts, this guy will eat his lunch twice a year…

As I stated in a post yesterday and there is nothing wrong with it,but the players go where the money is and no other reason.

Sad to see Fujita go. We can still repeat…there are alot of good LBs in the draft and Dunbar is pretty good. We could also draft Mays and move him to LB. Who cares, we’re champs…and before “accomplished” franchises like the Eagles and Vikings.

Why would a great guy like Fujita go play for an idiot like Mangini? Maybe the money was too good to pass up.

I think him and DJ will make a good combo inside.

Thank God Cleveland is doing something. I actually like this guy. Now trade Shawn Rodgers and get as much as possible.

It’s easy to repeat… you see how often it’s done. My advice… start stealing signals.

Could be a smart stop-gap move. Fujita can help Wimbley and Roth and can be serviceable for 2 or 3 years, so now the Browns can pick an LB in later rounds and focus on DB, DL and WR in the draft. Hopefully they will grab Pike in round 2 or 3 if they don’t trade Rogers for Kolb.

Sad to see him go. Congrats, Browns fans, you got a good one.

Good move for browns. Cleveland can use this type player to construct an agressive bunch. With the add of the tackle signed earlier today, it’s good to see solid deals being made. Personally, I think Carr is a viable option if …when DA is gone, perhaps even a starter if BQ gets the shaft, I’m just sayin……Bradford if he’s in reach and somebody wants BQ on draft day. It’s a pipe dream Go browns.

Had Fujita signed with them about 4 days ago, then we could’ve made a run at Aaron Kampman before Jacksonville got their hands on ‘em. Maybe we should offer Keith Bullock a one or two year deal and get a younger at the other OLB position (draft T.Mays to play LB or Witherspoon). Bullock may be 2 years older than Fujita, but he is a 2x All-Pro and can be brought in on the same terms Sharper was offered last off-season.

No sir!!!! You put Mays @ Strong Safety!!!!!!
That dude is freakish and going against Troy P. twice a year will only make him compete harder!!!

  24. SF Saints Fan says: Mar 7, 2010 7:52 PM

Cleveland overpaid. No way the Saints would have paid Fujita $14 million over three years.
Fujita is a good player, but not $14 million good.
Oh, and he is a “system” player……..

He should’ve went to the packers. They need an LB and he would make a great Jim Halpert to Aaron Rodgers’ Ryan Howard.
