Saints hosting Jamal Williams, too

The New Orleans Saints apparently are in the market for a few old men.

35-year-old defensive end Leonard Little will visit this week.  Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that 33-year-old defensive tackle Jamal Williams will be visiting the Saints, too.

Williams, who has spent 12 years in San Diego, has been a 3-4 nose tackle.  In New Orleans, he’d become a defensive tackle in the team’s 4-3 approach.

The Chargers cut Williams last week.  He missed most of the 2009 season due to injury.

3x Pro Bowler & 3x All-Pro NT? Just what we need to stop the run to go along side Sedrick Ellis for a year or two gap until we find a younger decent DT to develop.

Old, but still in the way of opposing runners. A good move if he plays over 9 games for us, IMHO.

This seems like a much better potential signing than Leonard Little.
Williams being in the middle to clog things up will allow Sedrick Ellis to disrupt the backfield. That’s something that was missing for much of this year.

Wow, Sedrick Ellis and Jamal Williams, that’d be a pretty stout front line with Will Smith and possibly Leonard Little too. If a safety like Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas falls in the draft they could actually have a better defense than last year. Scary

Hmmm, odd potential signing for a 4-3 Defense……Love Jamal Williams, but doubt he’d serve well in that 4-3 scheme, dude’s too big and too slow for a 4 front (unless the ultimate plan is to draw blocks for Ellis to get in the backfield). Either way, best of luck to both parties!
    Go Ravens
(and Saints, please take that mountain of a man out of the AFC!)

Jamal Williams excelled in BOTH the 4-3 and 3-4 alignments.
He was a supplemental 2d rd pick who began his career as a 4-3 DT with Norman Hand and John Parella.
At age 34, he’ll be less effective in a 4-3 but in short bursts, he can still dominate.
Gregg Williams shuttles back and forth b/t the 4-3 and 3-4 anyway.
If New Orleans gets Jamal and LT, I will root for them to win it all, provided my Chargers fail to do so.
