Surgery derails Sharper's free-agency tour

Saints safety Darren Sharper’s free-agency tour has been derailed.  By a scalpel.

Fletcher Mackel of WSDU-TV reports that Sharper arrived Monday night at a party for the premiere of the Saints’ 2009 DVD on crutches.  He said that he underwent a procedure to “clean out his left knee.”

The surgery was performed last week in in Birmingham by Dr. James Andrews.

Sharper declined to say whether he has visited other teams; NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports via Twitter that Sharper will not be able to make visits in in immediate future.

The decision to undergo surgery two days before the start of free agency is confusing, unless of course Sharper’s agent knew that there would be no interest in Sharper during the first wave of free agency — or unless Sharper had a limp that he would not be plausibly be able to attribute to his leg falling asleep.

Sharper told Mackel that he remains positive about the possibility of returning to the Saints, who declined to apply the franchise tag or the transition tag to the unrestricted free agent.

Maybe he had surgery to wake his leg up so it wouldn’t fall asleep at Leapin Larry’s appliance store again.

At first, I didnt want Sharper. Now, I REALLY don’t want Sharper. Stay away from him, Miami, go after Otogwe.

Dr. James Andrews absolutely must be the wealthiest doctor in the known world -

Sharper is a talented player, even at this age, but he’s not a reliable PERSON. He’s sneaky, manipulative & back-stabbing – a spoiled brat who performs as long as his teams serve him champagne & strawberries on the sidelines at practice, but who withholds the great performances he’s still capable of, whenever he doesn’t get his way.
The Saints aren’t buying – and that’s the thing to do. One man’s opinion -

    J-E-T-S!! JETS JETS JETS!!
His swagger would be great for the Jets for a year or so.

MiamiMan90, I’m with you on that… Sharper won’t help our team… Get Atogwe or draft Earl Thomas
