Mike Holmgren is already re-making the Browns offense, but Eric Mangini remains to pilot the defense. And he needs linebackers badly.
With that in mind, the team will conduct a private workout with Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, according to a league source. The Buccaneers and Bills will also visit with Spikes.
Spikes has the size and instincts to make an ideal fit inside a 3-4 defense, but there are concerns about his top-end speed. On a 4-3 defense, he could play in the middle and some teams may look at him as a strong-side linebacker.
Draft projections have Spikes going anywhere from the mid-first round to the middle of the second round.

Isnt that the LB who poked a player in the eyes as he was laying at the bottom of the pile?
Get him in the second. He would help my Browns big time.
Giants #47 pick is my guess, and hope!
Yeah he has the instincts to poke a grown man in the eyes.
Is there anyone the Bills aren’t planning to meet with?
Yes…He was suspended for the first half of the next game, but I think he chose to sit out the whole game…

Pretty sad that this guy can be considered for any position with these types of behavior issues. Someone with absolutely no lack of respect for his fellow players or his fellow man in general. I expect him to fit in nicely in the same place as Michael Vick next season.

He’ll be right at home in the NFL, where that kind of thing happens at the bottom of most piles.
i dunno but if it is i want a guy like that on my team for sure!! ya always need guys like that…but i do not want him in the 1st round!
You guys need to learn the whole story before raining down on spikes, now while i wont argue that the whole eye poking was completely wrong, look and see what lead him to do that( IE tebow getting cheaply blind sided) this kid is far and away the best ILB in the draft, McClain is WAY overrated.
Hmmm…
D’Qwell Jackson got a 2nd round tender after expecting a first and wants more money while Fujita is already locked up for 3 years.
Does this mean Jackson, Fujita and Spikes would rotate at ILB or are the Browns looking ahead to life without DQ?
whats the big deal? i think it was Steven Jackson who did an interview last season who said those piles are fierce and dirty when trying to recover a fumble, people will punch pinch and grab anything to get u to let go of the ball

I think DQ is on his way out of Cleveland…
@ Tmoney,
If Tebow is going to carry out the option fake you plant his arse in the dirt. Brandon Spikes is nowhere near the top ILB in this draft. McClain may be a little overrated but he is by far the best ILB in this draft.
David Bowens was great on the inside for the Browns at the end of last season. With or without DQ, Roth, Fujita, Bowens, and Wimbley is an improvement over last year’s LB corps.
