Green is going to Denver

The New England to Denver pipeline is alive and well.

The Broncos announced Tuesday they signed defensive end Jarvis Green, who played the first eight years of his career with the Patriots.  New England was hoping to keep him.

Green won’t post splashy stats (he has three sacks the last two years), but he’s a rock solid rotation end in a 3-4 defense.  The Broncos need competent warm bodies, and they’ve now added Justin Bannan and Green.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports Green will earn $7.5 million in the first two years of a four-year contract.  The total value of the deal can reach $20 million.

Green will mostly play on passing downs, but this signing makes it less likely the Broncos pick up Dwan Edwards.

desperate times call for desperate measures. The Pats can replace him in the 5th round.

McD is almost as bad as Mangina

Sucks for them. Green is done. He isn’t even useful as a situational pass rusher anymore. Edwards would have been a better choice, and I actually hope the Pats pursue him.

I wonder if the signings between the teams come with gray hoodies

Good luck Jarvis!! Thanks for the years in NE

Guy is 31, has experience and still produces. What you do since this is a deep draft is bring in guys in the late rounds in the same position and have these guys mentor them. Its a smart move, and a position that is not replaceable with a draft pick.

    Guy retired two years ago…

Decent signing by Denver, not flashy, not likely make a huge impact but a good solid vet and can be counted on to do his job on any particualar play. Now if they can get Jamall Williams signed that would potantially make for a completely new starting D-line.

This guy was starting in NE and they wanted him back. He goes to Denver and it’s a horrible signing? I don’t understand. If he’s in NE he’s solid, but in Denver he’s washed up.

    Very funny line.

Green follows the green. Seems like they over-payed for this glorified blocking dummy… oh but wait… he played in New England for an over-rated/under-performing defense. Saint Bill has laid his hands on him? Well… then back up the Mr. Bowlen’s armored truck and sign on the line-which-is-dotted. *sigh*

It’s a solid move … for both sides. For the Pats, they had to start finding/getting in younger bodies on the DL. The process that began a year ago with the jettisoning of Seymour has continued, and it makes a lot of sense. They have a lot of picks early to add a 5-technique, and Wilfork/Brace/Wright gives them some depth up the middle.
For the Broncos, it isn’t an expensive acquisition and it’s an upgrade. While Green doesn’t have much left, he should be able to be a decent starter for them, allowing them more freedom in the draft to say, go after a QB (Clausen?), perhaps add a WR (Bryant?), or go after some LB depth (McClain or maybe a Kindle).

Congratulations to Jarvis Green. Nice contract.
Jarvis was a key backup and had some important sacks during some big games for the Patriots. Alas, you can’t resign everyone. The Patriots have a number of young defensive lineman that will be given an opportunity to step up.
If NFL players are watching, they should appreciate that playing for the Patriots lets you play for a winner, make a good salary with the Patriots, or leave for a richer pay day if that’s what is important. There are not too many players out there that the Patriots let go and later rue the day they did so.

BenJarvis Green-Ellis just lost a great source of hand-me-down 50% engraved items – but the Broncos get a wickedpissa good citizen, which they could use.
    As for the player, ….meh!

The only thing I can say about McD has been for the most part his free agent signings have been solid…it’s his draft picks that have set the franchise back.

    @broncosteviep
Actually, I agree and disagree with you. McDaniels has made more bone headed moves in his first year then Wade Phillips did in his whole tenure in Denver. Cutler, Marshall…but while his drafting was somewhat solid, I agree that it could have been a whole hell of alot better. Denver should have drafted Sanchez, he would have been poised to start and the Denver fans who boo him for the Cutler issue would have backed off, but he is so Orton-ized that he seems to be focusing on half-hearted moves, that worries me.
But all the free agent signings point to something I believe draftniks are not seeing, the Broncos are likely to go very heavy offensively in the draft; offensive line, quarterback, tight end, possibly receiver, I do not see many defensive picks coming in the annual NFL draft this year for Denver.

The majority of Broncos fans wish the New England to Denver pipeline had never been opened.

Green didn’t have good year in 2009 in my opinion. He had some injuries too. The Patriots thought he’d be ready to step in for Seymour after the trade but he wasn’t. Green had shown some good ability in previous seasons, maybe the Broncos can get him back to a higher level.

Now the Broncs got Jamal Williams signed
