Maybe Irvin got into the HOF before Monk because he was the lead WR on the most dominant team of the 90's, had more Pro Bowls than Monk, and averaged almost 20 yards (about 40%) more per game than Monk. The fact that Andre Johnson is this year's selection for the Art Monk Award.
(It's in the last sentence of the third paragraph, lost amid the self-lauding describing the inspiration of the creation of the Art Monk Award itself.)

"It's called and "always the focus of the opposing defense, unlike Art Monk, who was never really more than a #2 guy"."
---------
And Irvin was the focus? Not Emmitt? Or how to bust up that monstrously oversized yet athletic line? None of that was the focus? It was all Irvin?
Yeah.. didn't think so.
Irvin career is the culmination of him being a push off king and getting away with it.
Nothing more.. nothing less

I read the first paragraph and immediately thought of Andre Johnson. There's a guy who lets his play do the talking, while other less talented receivers are running their mouths or doing stupid stunts to make themselves seem better than they are. Johnson made a play fighting for the end zone last season that should be in the NFL's top 10.
While the Jets defense deserves credit for stopping the Texans cold, the Raiders didn't hold Johnson down. The Texans quit passing because they had a big lead - so says the 6 pass attempts in the second half. Andre had a 62 yard catch in the first half, so I don't think the Raiders held him down that much. And while Johnson did have his best games against St Louis and Seattle, he also put up good numbers against playoff teams Arizona, Indianapolis, and Cincinnatti.
